Cameroonian here. To my brother , please forget about the imaginary nation. That's what we all wanted but things have changed. The west can't support any separatist movement so long as it doesn't suit them. Self-determination is nothing more than a combination of words. We're in this situation today because of the West and their blatant policies. I understand mistakes of the past can't be reckoned with but there's always a way to fix the present problems brought by the past. Ambazonia is a euphoric nation. It can only exist in our minds. The French know what they'll be losing in Cameroon if they let us go. And also even if we become independent today it won't change anything. Megalomaniacs will always be there , and corruption is inherent in our hearts. I know where I come from and I can't trust my people. Africans will always be the way they are. We'll remain like this if we don't rally up and fight the west. The larger problem is the West and not even the gov't. In this case , France particularly and the US. Nothing can be done about it and matters like this are best murmured. And thanks to the KZfaqr for covering this.

It's not a war. It's a civil crisis. Cameroon hasn't had any war since independence. Do you know what war is ? Even the terrorists in the north are only staging insurgents. We can say countries like Sierra Leone and Liberia , Nigeria ...they had wars. Cameroon isn't fighting a war. It's an insurgency. I'm not saying it's good but it hasn't qualified to be called "war".

I don't actually know who suffers most in Cameroon so I didn't mean to say that (I don't remember saying it actually but I may have and I can understand the video giving that impression). From what I have read about the rest of Cameroon, everyone suffers from Biya except for the entourage he takes with him to Switzerland for months at a time!

Actually, I think I know the place in the video your refer to. I guess what I meant was the Anglophone Cameroonians have challenges that Francophones do not.

Actually we DO suffer the MOST. Those regions don't contribute as much to the national GDP like the anglophone areas, the people from there hardly pay taxes & they speak French. Anglophones suffer from economic neglect when our region contributes a lot to the national GDP. We have no airports, seaports, hydroelectric power dams, etc. Our infrastructure is supbar, national exams are in French and if you want access to advanced services like banking, administrative services, they have to be done in the French side.

Glad you like it! I use editing software called Adobe Premiere Elements (which is the cheaper version of Adobe Premiere Pro). I've had to learn to do the small amount of animation I do through trial and error, though. I don't know an easy way to learn it other than watch KZfaq tutorials. I know another KZfaqr who makes amazingly cool animated videos using Power Point, which is already installed on many computers. I don't know how to do this well, though. I wish you well with your channel! Check out Nate on Channel Makers (another YT channel) for a lot of good advice on structure, tumbnails, etc.

People are dying everyday, Christmas eve our parents were ambushed by the military for no just any reason , their homes were burnt and about 3 persons were killed. Until when???😭😭😭 Talking to you now, our family compound was also burnt down by the military in 2018 and am not the only one. Our parents and grand parents leave in the bushes right now paying a debt they don't know about. That independence will definitely come someday...

They created a 2 state confederation with Cameroun and they became The State of West Cameroon and Cameroun became the State of East Cameroon respectively running their affairs by separate government headed by a prime minister, which was like a domestic independence rather than integrating with Nigeria. The State of West Cameroon (Ambazonia) was Annex by France using East Cameroon(Cameroun) as a proxy because huge crude oil and gas was discover there in 1972 and by 1973 the exploitation of it began by France till date.

Even if Biya does so, scores from 60 years ago will eventually be settled. All that would secure Biya’s son’s place on the throne is the Beti dominated military. Without that, the current cabal on power can not hold power. Basically, a tiny minority controls Cameroon at the expense of all other groups, especially the economically dominant Bamileke.

The republic of somaliland declared independence from somalia on the 18th of may 1991 after the dictator was ousted. Today the republic of somaliland is a de facto state with their own military, currency, passport, institutions and parliament with a democratically elected president. The republic of somaliland has a diplomatic relationship with many countries but no country has fully recognised it instead countries like uk is the only western country that has a permanent office in the capital city hargeisa and other regional countries like ethiopia, kenya, Djibouti and the UAE has represented offices aka cosy embassies and they accept somaliland passport etc etc. The u.s started to have a relationship with the republic of somaliland recently due to somaliland strategic location and the republic of somaliland is the only country in the region that refused China's money but instead formed a diplomatic relationship with taiwan. Taiwan will help the republic of somaliland on how to navigate without international recognition and U.N seat so far theu opened many doors for somaliland like the u.s congress (both the house and senate) and is always helping the country in many ways like technology and agriculture. You give a man a fish, he will eat for a day but you teach a man how to fish, he will eat forever so Taiwan's policy is not aid and they don't have the billions of china but they will teach you many things. Who wouldn't like his country to have what Taiwan has? In term of economy, technology and the standard of life.

It's clear that there's a lot of support for independence. Has there every been a poll to determine exactly how strong support is? I'm guessing Biya wouldn't allow this, though. As for division, I'm sure Biya's regime will do what it can to keep things divided, but I also suspect there is more of a problem than just taking money from Yaounde.

I sympathize with the people of Southern Cameroons/Ambazonia, and I can understand what would make them think they can't remain in Cameroon and need to create a new state, but I wouldn't say I sympathize with the armed rebels at all. If I gave that impression it wasn't intentional. I do understand that there are some exceptional circumstances when it is necessary to take up arms to protect yourself and your community, but I think that should only be done in the most extreme circumstances. I don't know a lot about the different rebel groups, but from what I do know what you describe sounds very possible. Once a rebel group starts making money from its activities, they are often reluctant to ever agree to peace - and that is a tragedy.

Lrp soldiers are the greatest rebels ever exits. They are wicket to the core.

There's no mechanism for this, first of all. I don't think Cameron would be willing to give up part of its territory. It's also very possible that Nigeria wouldn't agree either. Also, the people of Ambazonia should be allowed to have more than just these two options.

Thanks for watching and commenting! Germany called its colony a protectorate, but from what I've read it was a really brutal regime that didn't genuinely respect any local rulers. If it wasn't a colony, then that's at best a very minor technicality. Also, from what I've read some tests are French only and some aren't. But it should never happen in a genuinely bilingual country, don't you think?

@@FredoRockwell yep well regarding the agreement between the local kings and Germany that's why I said our problems began with them and that's why it's so complex today because if the international laws shall be followed strictly them all those colonial countries ( Germany France and British) shall pay a huge price to the people of Cameroon today that's why none of them want the true to be established. Again from a legal stand Cameroon was never a German colony. Now regarding the exams I don't know of any public school where the entrance test is only in French!!! But of course it's deplorable that in almost all them (may be expect those in English speaking areas) the teaching is mostly in french

What I read was that the French-only exams are for professional schools (which I guess would be post-graduate degrees or similar). I really wanted to keep the video short to encourage people to watch it, so I didn't go into any detail though.

I'm not an expert, but there are several native languages spoken in the Southern Cameroons, and I think an English Pidgin language is commonly spoken in the area as well.

Yes, Southern Cameroons was originally part of German Kamerun. But so were parts of present day Nigeria, CAR, and Congo. I don't think imaginary lines drawn by colonizers should be the most important issue, though. What's more important is the human rights and access to democracy of all individuals in all parts of Cameroon. If Paul Biya's regime can't provide this, that regime should be changed. I'm not advocating any particular change myself, though. There are lots of options, and as long as there is an open and democratic process for enacting change, then I say let the Cameroonian people of today (not dead colonizers from the distant past) draw their own political boundaries.

Yes they were an entity. After the first world war, the territory was under the control of France and the British, then in 1961 October 1st , we got our independance from The British. Southern Cameroon was a State.

Thanks for commenting! I'm not exactly sure what you're intended point is, but I don't think it's really relevant how the Northern Cameroons was treated by Nigeria. I'm sure there were problems there too, but that doesn't justify Cameroon's treatment of the Southern Cameroons (this would be a "whataboutism" type of argument). What matters is that the Cameroonian government is oppressive and undemocratic, and that it mistreats its people. Arguably, it mistreats the citizens of the Southern Cameroons more. If Cameroon was free and democratic, I'd still think any independence movement was interesting, but I'd think it was a bad idea. If Cameroon cannot even provide basic democratic rights to its people though, than all Cameroonians (in Southern Cameroons or otherwise) should be free to seek alternative arrangements peacefully.

As far as I can tell, I've had comments from people supporting multiple factions on this video, telling me I got the final part wrong and really their faction is the dominant one. This kind of proves my point. One group may be larger, or control more territory, etc, but to the outside world it's very confusing and hard to follow.

You've hit upon an important problem, I think, but for all people (not just black people). There is widespread ignorance about important conflicts around the world, and like the anglophone crisis, many of these involve tragic loss of life among civilians. I blame the media mostly. They tend to want to report about conflicts people are already familiar with rather than educate the public about new issues. I don't think reporting about Gaza is a problem, but I'm aware that in the US there are many days where there's more reporting about protests about Gaza than what's happening in Gaza itself. It's all been sad in my opinion. 😕

@@FredoRockwell I do agree with what u pointed out. However the main point I was trying to hit on is the fact that as black (Africans), we Do NOT PRIORITIZE issues that affect us. There are wars in Sudan, Somalia, northern Nigeria, Southern Cameroon (AKA Ambazonia), yet u don’t hear of African mediators. Now u tell me why South Africa is so involved in middle eastern affairs and also African leaders visiting Russia and Ukraine to mediate Putin’s genocide , without even mentioning what’s happening in the African continent. The war in Sudan is so bad that an eyewitness saw dogs feeding on human corpses in the streets of Khartoum, millions displaced yet Cyril(SA president) and co are worried about Eastern Europe. Africans worry so much about other races than theirs. It’s estimated that approximately eight hundred thousand people died during the genocide in Rwanda but I believe the figures are higher than that, it took America three months and ten days to categorize it as a genocide , then respond. My question is what immediate intervention did other African countries take as measures to stop the killings in Kigali and its surrounding regions? NOTHING. The Right to Self Determination is not a crime, it’s a right under the United Nations Charter. The first phase of this struggle seems to have proven disappointing for now but as a student of history, Yaoundé can’t count its chips yet. There is a fine chance of a second resurrection of Ambazonia, this time with a good structure and better planning. God willing we’ll Hit SUCCESS.

Je suis américain et bien que j'aie été dans plusieurs pays d'Afrique, je n'ai été dans aucune partie du Cameroun et je n'y ai aucun lien autre que mon propre intérêt. Ce que vous voyez dans la vidéo est mon résumé de la situation. Personnellement, je trouve les dictatures très désagréables, donc je suis sûr que cela transparaît dans la vidéo. Je pense qu'il est très raisonnable de penser que la démocratie et les droits humains fondamentaux sont quelque chose que chaque État devrait fournir, et s'ils ne le font pas, je suis critique. Est-ce que cela me rend émotif ? Alors je suis heureux d'être décrit comme émotif. Concernant mon soutien à Ambazonia, je ne peux pas dire avec conviction qu'un nouveau pays est la bonne voie. Je peux cependant dire avec conviction que Paul Biya devrait démissionner de ses fonctions immédiatement et que le Cameroun devrait organiser des élections libres dès que possible. I think the source of the unrest in Ambazonia is political oppression and a lack of democracy. I agree that violence is bad in general, but I can also understand how violence is unavoidable if a government behaves this way.
