You know what I've got to know the UV light 🚦 test frm you and some of the other resellers but today what you've shown is the first time I've come across with which is so helpful to test the Amber very easily without damaging the pieces.

Thank you!! I ❤️ to watch your videos! I had to comment on this one because ironically I got a gorgeous vintage Victorian? butterscotch amber silver necklace, in a GWBB today. The silver is not marked and honestly… even tho I thought it was beautiful I would have just put it aside maybe even in a jewelry lot because I would have assumed it was costume. The silver did not look like silver. So had I not watched ur video I would have never questioned and tested the amber and silver! Also the high value is new to me too!!! Sooooooooo… Thank You 🙏🏻 🙏🏻🙏🏻 again! 🤗

If you ever get a chance to go to a gem and mineral show, you'll be able to find everything from raw unpolished/unset pieces to multi-color, polished pieces set into jewelry. I have been to the show in Tucson, AZ., and is said to be the largest show.

I learned a few things, thank you. I would've guessed the necklace to be lower value due to it being chips of amber. One thing that I heard that can make amber more valuable is inclusions. Meaning having insects, or such inside the amber.

Can you use table salt to test or does it have to be sea salt? Also I did not know the darker the more valuable!! Great to know! I may have some pieces underpriced!!! Great video!
@CaliMomCollects
@CaliMomCollects 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Andrea! Yes you can use table salt. Other factors do add or subtract to the value of a piece as well. Like the setting of the Amber. If it’s set in gold or silver that adds to the value... but Dr. Lori valued my earrings higher than my ring even though the amber on my ring was much larger due to the color of my earrings. Some don’t agree with her but I do believe that the color or darkness of amber does play a huge role in the value. Thank you!!

Plastic density starts from 0.94, so actually if it sinks - it`s not an amber, if it floats - maybe it's amber (maybe not). I have plastic necklace that floats in pure water and looks like amber. If you do hot pin test there is no reason to burn huge hole. Gentle touch in a place that no one can spot is enough. Actually that is how pawnshops test for gold - go a small scrap.

I would like too sell to pay for a gravestone for her but had a difficult time selling my Amber. Thax in advance

This is my opinion, and I have discussed the subject with other resellers, whose opinions are in alignment with mine. Having said that, I will say that I respect and admire Dr. Lori’s knowledge, but I disagree with her valuations. She always inflates her valuations on everything I have seen her evaluate, whether it’s china, artwork, jewelry, pottery, etc… When pricing jewelry in the secondary market, there are various factors that should be considered. First is your market base, and second is the general state of the economy. Other considerations are the metals & components, age, maker, condition, and style. Angela, I hope you will let us know if your amber pieces sell for the prices Dr. Lori gave you. I also don’t necessarily agree with darker amber being more valuable than lighter amber. Ppl are going to buy what draws their eye, not the actual age of the amber. Amber comes in a diverse number of colors. My favorites are cognac, honey, yellow, and green. I favor clear amber colors over the opaque egg yolk, butterscotch, etc.. Thank you for making this informative video, especially for discussing the hot pin test. Nobody should be testing any type of jewelry via that method! Having said all of this, I would only add that a lot of gemstones and resin/plastics will glow various colors under black lights. Copal will also glow, and is another tree resin used in jewelry making. ☮️

This is definitely not made to be the end all say all for every piece. You are definitely right value is different for everyone. What I like and I might pay more for might not be the same for someone else. The information given in this video is just the information that I have found. I would suggest everyone do their own research and maybe talk to an expert that they trust. I happen to value Dr. Loris knowledge and information. I trust her! Values fluctuate as with anything. I don’t plan on listing all of my pieces. I’m not in a rush to sell them. Thanks for your input.

While it's true that people's taste may differ, it only makes sense that the darker (older) amber is more valuable for obvious reasons.

I have to agree, not trying to discredit Dr.Lori or anything but her background is art and architecture and her business is appraisals, which is typically replacement value not resale value. I've seen many videos where she has been wildly off when it comes specifically to jewelry values. No one person can possibly know it all, and I honestly don't think she is the best resource when it comes to jewelry.

If amber is millions of years old than color change cannot be the logical reason because all amber is exposed to oxygen. In this world science doesn't always tell the truth. For example petrification can occur within hundreds and not millions of years. I like Dr. Lori as well. I would love to own some blue amber. I have cognac, green and egg yolk. This is still an excellent video.
