I love doing fashion on a budget and I love being creative, so I thought in the spirit of twitter girl power, would do my own little do-it-yourself version of designer runway pieces and show you life hacks for how to make your own instagram worthy outfits out of what would be trash cheap, easy, and fabulously! :P
so here is me, DIY-ing a full outfit even though this is my first time ever trying it lol...weird vlog tutorial style.

The fact that she found this at a thrift store and turned it into fashion is way better than someone buying it and using it for Halloween or a costume party. Fashion is respectable and she turned it into a cute piece by using the fabric. She wasn’t altering the meaning of culture she was just intrigued by the material and saw art

If I'm not mistaken, this is a version of the traditional Chinese qipqao dress! My parents used to buy them for me when I was younger, and I wore them to all sorts of traditional holiday parties. This makes me nostalgic for my childhood! ❤️

I think it looks great. The end result, in no way, resembles the original garment. Clearly, a DIY to repurpose the fabric. This is not a “DIY sexy qipao”. It’s a whole separate outfit. She got it from a THRIFT STORE. I would rather a 90s inspired skirt set than the landfill.

Unpopular opinion: I don’t think it’s cultural appropriation for her to use this material. I’m Chinese myself and I think it’s just mixing her culture with Chinese culture. I think that’s dope. Tbh goodwill tends not to have matching sets but if you got to an unheard of local thrift store they tend to have stuff like what amber finds I hope that helps🤷🏾♀️

@@mikalanguyensite I don't know about USA, but here in Europe we have a lot of different cultures which some are not even ethnicity based anymore as countries are becoming less monoethnic. Also the use of word 'white' is a bit odd here as for example countries like Iceland and Italy have drastically different cultures and history even though both of them are considered 'white'. Actually I have been wondering if the term 'white' means white USA person? In that case I don't know if that group specifically has any culture, rather I think different parts and states in USA have different cultures (south, east, west, etc.).

I think you should learn how to sew. At least just the basics. You’re so into fashion and diy and I’m soooooo surprised that you haven’t taught yourself yet. But it isn’t too hard to learn. And there are places to learn!!!!! And I think it could be a great video you should share!!!!!!

Very good job on that one! I'd keep the extra fabric from the skirt - because it looks like a good quality silk - to make a pillow, neck roll, something like that. Should never waste awesome natural fabric (if it was silk and not a good poly).
