My friend Shannon has a small apartment in Los Angeles, and the kitchen was old and outdated. So I am showing you how to redo your kitchen on a budget! Painting, marble counters, and a full new look, this whole project was cheap and easy and quick! kind of. it took all day but you get the point lol. And we did it all by ourselves! No men (and no professionals haha) needed :P
all broke bitch style, of course.

I’m also pretty sure u can’t just paint over laminate? To my knowledge it’s best to sand, prime and then paint it. Or at least use a degreaser. Hope it won’t peel off.

TIP: clean those cabinets REALLY well with TSP-alternative cleaner before painting or your paint will peel right off and you will lose all your hard work. (Oh, and don't try to do it all in a long wig.)

Cynthia it’s a rented apartment, you can only do so much. She can paint the bottoms of the cabinets another day, buy a new rug when she can afford it if she wants and the floor probably can’t be changed without serious approval by her landlord.

Great job! love this so much!!! I think one small thing that would help the aesthetic of her kitchen is to go completely white/silver monochrome! You were super close anyway and, it is such a vibe/ totally in style right now. Just replace the small accessories like the spice racks and paper towel holder. Maybe new spice jars with silver lids! Just an idea!

Just throwing in some suggestions for anyone who wants to do this to their cabinets. I don’t remember Amber mentioning this so i’ll add it’s important to buy paint AND a primer specifically for cabinets. Ordinary paint isn’t water resistant and normal kitchen activity can wear the paint down quickly and start chipping. Which isn’t safe and fixing it will be more time consuming. Also, deep clean the cabinets before you paint and a tiny bit of sanding is recommended for laminate cabinets to help the paint stick! There are some tips online to be sure how to properly do it. Happy renovating everyone!

I love you Amber! You are my fave and I LOVE YOUR DIYS ☺️😍. But if anybody wants to renovate make sure you use actual Laminate Paint for the cabinets. There is one that I recommend and it’s sold at Home Depot, is called Cabinet Rescue and while I love PPG Timeless paint bc it’s one coat, I assure you it won’t last and it might scratch easily over time. If it was wood it would be fine but laminate needs a different paint or adhesion primer at least.

Looks great Amber. Your ideas are always so good. I think if you left drawer fronts and doors the wood laminate effect then painted bases white with funky gold or silver handles it would have looked great but I still like what you did :) very clean and chic x

helpmethinkofaname but... she didn’t paint the cabinets properly at all. She was wrong about laminate not needing sanded, she 100% should have put a primer down first, her very first step NEEDED to be using a degreaser on the cabinets (otherwise the paint will slide right off over time), & that many coats of paint that quickly will start chipping & peeling because the bottom layers never fully finish drying which leads to bubbling. It looks okay from far away but it could look SO much better & it’s going to last about a year before it’s a complete mess to deal with it

You have to sand laminate cabinets, then you need to prime them. That paint won't last long. Don't follow her advice guys.

@@ryinspencer6700 No, I actually enjoy watching her videos as her disposition is always upbeat and so positive and I think it's a breath of fresh air. I have made the mistake of just painting cabinets the way they did it in the video and it didn't last long. I just learned from experience and then I did it the right way and I still have beautifully painted cabinets.

I would add the step of making sure it is okay to paint the cabinets with the landlord but otherwise this turned out amazing!

Love you too death Amber but this was painful to watch. Lol My husband is a professional painter so it was killing me. Things I would've done (could still do) paint under the cabinets white (and those little spots showing through behind the backsplash so that the missing spots blend in. And once the cabinets were finished, I would've taped them off and painted the range hood with some silver metallic spray paint.

Rikki Hurt I loved this video because she’s not a professional, she gets the job done and beautifully if I must say. This is what the average person would do, someone who doesn’t know much about paint or anything profesional. We need more you tubers like her! All these other DIYers making diys and room transformations out of most of people’s budget! Using tools that the average person doesn’t have. Making it almost imposible and so much expensive to recreate their diys. Just a thought.
