Some of the few DF challenges I've heard of include having no migrations ever, only your starting 7 dwarves and any children they have. Sealing off the above ground before the end of the first year and never interacting with the outside world. And the "1 tile" fortresses are sort of a challenge. I recall seeing a challenge where all migrating dwarves were "on vacation" and trying to run the perfect resort with a small "staff" where the vacationers were not allowed to work. Etc.

Dwarf Fortress does have challenge playthroughs out there! Often its to do with the brutality of the starting conditions, but here's some examples: The single Dwarf challenge. Evil Biome starts. Embarking in a tower. Frozen ocean embarks. No equipment embarks. You can also challenge yourself as much as you like because its so customisable. Try surviving on a desert evil biome with maxed out Megabeasts, Vampires and Werewolves with no metal available? Go for it!

The PZ dev aiming to be the most comprehensive zombie game is a little sad. PZ has a long way to go with an uphill climb to be the most comprehensive zombie game of all time. Didn't they just recently add hunting? Perhaps the most rudimentary survival aspect that took over a decade to add? It isn't really possible, either, to achieve that goal. Both DayZ and Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead have already completed that goal. PZ is so incomplete and slow to update while other games have completely released with more features and even update regularly. Even if they wanted to surpass those games, it would take another decade, and by then other games will have achieved that goal ten more times. Frustrating dev cycle. My wife and I occasionally boot PZ up to play and immediately realize how barebones it is and how you'd have to mod it to have survival aspects that make it. Cataclysm is set in about the same time period and already has all of those features PZ wants to add, but does it better.
@kilm2232
@kilm2232 2 ай бұрын
PZ is far short of where it could be, but it's leaps beyond what DayZ has to offer. The two aren't even comparable.
@tofu1608
@tofu1608 2 ай бұрын
@@kilm2232 absolutely delusional. You've probably never played DayZ then or you weren't very good at it. DayZ is insanely popular for a reason, and it's because the game has all the zombie survival features. PZ has very few and they're half baked.
@tofu1608
@tofu1608 2 ай бұрын
@@kilm2232 The two definitely aren't comparable. Because when I played PZ I was constantly trying mechanics and not understanding why they weren't working, only to find out that feature has been unfinished for 10 years. DayZ is a complete game with incredibly immersive gameplay and a massive player base. I've never tried to do something to be told it isn't in the game yet.

@tofu1608
@tofu1608 2 ай бұрын
@@Danila438 There are probably a zillion features not in CDDA. but this is implemented as of at least a couple years ago. CDDA has an update like, every day. They add stuff constantly. What I'm referring to are the absolute basics. What do you HAVE to include for a survival game. And taking 10 years or however long to add hunting is just a tad too long, imo.

@manformerlypigbukkit
@manformerlypigbukkit 2 ай бұрын
Nah. If you’ve ever looked at Zomboid’s strange and esoteric codebase, you get the feeling it’s made out of passion instead of a want for money It has the same effect as Minecraft in that sense, where it looks simple in front but has so much shit going on under the hood that only Zomboid/Minecraft does in that way (1.12.2 GlStateManager my beloathed) To call it a cashgrab is just wrong, you don’t build a cashgrab on Java 15 with a weird modular script/lua combo system where almost anything can be modded and replaced. It’s such a fascinating (albeit frustrating to mod and apparently develop given the update cycles) way to make a game lol
