KZfaq is so strange. I watch many channels with the exact same quality and 1000x the subs - your channel is fantastic and deserves some more love.

It’s because there’s so many good ones,you’ll see similar comments to yours all over. I’ve made them myself,a few great ones are always gonna slip through the cracks. Yet some are popular but no one knows why🤪
@TheAnthonyMarlowe21 күн бұрын
The crazy thing is that it could be anything from titling to tagging to not doing chapter select, to a misinterpretation of words or overuse of footage, and still KZfaq could tomorrow show it to millions and up its views. The fact is the algorithm is us but also them, and they’re so many factors and intervening forces it may as well be random. Shorts with no content get millions of views. It’s horrific.

So excited to see a video about this. Young Redditors called me nuts for insisting there was ever a “Monsterfest” but this was peak Halloween! 👻🎃

I’ll never forget finding out this was a thing. I’m 41, but didn’t grow up with cable. Was delivering pizza in what must’ve been 99/2000 when someone had this on in background. Truly life changing indeed.

MonsterFest is so important to me, and a huge reason for my love of classic films today. Thank you for creating this!

I really miss those Monster Fests of old,where they would show the classic Universal monsters and Hammer movies. While I still love it today and adore all the classic 80's movies,they don't show many movies before the late 70's.

What a wonderful video, hit it out of the park with this one. It makes me find myself saying “I miss cable?”. Towards the end you touched on what I think is the problem now: nothing is special. Movie and TV studios, through 24/7 streaming, have managed to remove any sense of “now”, which removes any trace of something being special. It also makes me, again, realize we got what we wanted, sort of: unbundling. Those of you not old enough to remember, you had to buy ‘bundles’ of channels on cable, most of them you couldn’t get a la carte, with the exception of a few such as HBO. Something like AMC would come with some bundle of channels, even if you didn’t want them, you’d have to get basic cable then add on some number of bundles to get those 4 other channels you wanted. The end result: cost. So when streaming appeared it promised to “unbundle” those channels so if you wanted to just watch AMC, you could, just not on cable. So, we essentially got what we asked for, unbundling, just not in a way beneficial to anyone, producers or consumers. Had the greed of cable companies, and the providers, not taken over, and they simply just offered a la carte channels, I bet cable would have survived longer.

I'm not yet 40 but I do like TCM. I've seen a lot of good movies there but the one that always sticks with me is a version of Wizard of Oz feature Oliver Hardy, and not for positive reasons for the most part. The movie surprised me by how the effects (especially the scene with the faerie) really enhance the fantasy of it all, but it's one of the most racist things I've ever seen. They pick up a black character at one point. The black character is played by a white man in blackface and they find his character lounging in an open field eating watermelon. It just gets worse from there. I understand that a century or so has gone by since that version was made and that things were different back then, but holy shit, man.

You are the first channel to cover monster/fear fest i remember my parents would let us watch it during Halloween or we would sneak it. I remember early morning monster classics. It shaped me to grow up and love horror movies.
@FinfectionАй бұрын
I used to watch monster/fearfest pretty hardcore every year growing up. Saw a lot of classics for the first time through that time. I did eventually stop during the walking dead marathon years though. The block became less of a celebration of Halloween and horror movies, but instead became a promotional tool for their newer series. Also by that point I was old enough to have a job and start buying copies of all the movies I liked.

This was awesome!!! I didn't become a fan of Monsterfest until its '02 version. I was more of a fun of Usa Network's Halloween movie marathons of the 90's which would air for the entire Halloween weekend in the 80's to late 90's. I would love to see you do a retrospective on Usa Network ( Saturday Nightmares, Commander Usa's Groovie Movies, Usa Up All Night). Thanks for the upload of Monsterfest I really appreciated watching this.

An amazing breakdown. Nothing was quite like the AMC of the '90s and early 2000s, and I particularly remember enjoying them more when they stayed true to their roots and played more of the Universal horror classics from the '30s-'50s. I totally get that they had to rebrand and change with the times, though. That's the nature of the beast.

I like how they touted the AMC version of The Prisoner as “original”. I wonder if anyone has done videos about that dumpster fire. The original was so great and of its time…I wish it was left alone. Not even Sir Ian could make it watchable.

Fantastic video man ty! I’m just glad FearFest is still going and it’s a month long now. I was so upset a few years ago when they took two weeks away to give to The Walking Dead. Apparently, I wasn’t the only one as many people were not happy and let AMC know it. AMC had to put out tweet saying FearFest would be back at full power next year and they were. Keep the awesome stuff coming please and ty again!

Being honest, it seems as if Weigel has the old Universal horror flicks. They've been ran on 'Movies!' and were subjects of a few Svengoolie episodes for quite a few months now. For another thing, cable's audience is shrinking, but broadcast is stiff competition with it's wide availability and dirt-cheap installation.

This video's awesome. Even though Monsterfest/Fearfest is so bastardized and commercialized now, I still appreciate it. Nice to have a month straight of horror movies to just flick on in October, even though its usually the same like 20 movies over and over. I've been watching Monster/Fear fest for decades now. And while I love anything from the 70's and 80's,I really do miss the older classic silent and Universal horror films they used to play. The last few years it's been nothing but recent horror movies and tons of Walking dead commercials. And the last two days of October they've just played Halloween movies(with Michael Myers) over and over again. I get that things change and adapt,but I really do miss the way AMC used to be.

Great video! Discovered Monster/Fear Fest as a young teenager in the early 2000s and I still tune in every year even though the programming's been a dud for a while. Shudder's a great service, too. Joe Bob Briggs is such a welcome addition to their service.
@stephennootens91622 күн бұрын
There was a point were it felt like they had the handful of Halloween movies they had the rights in heavy rotation during the Halloween season. Shudder is great since they have good working relationships with the distributors of more strange cult like movies so you find real odd ball movies plus they pick up stuff from the festival circuit.
@serpentinegallery22 күн бұрын
@@stephennootens916 I wish they'd air more of the lesser known stuff in between the tried and true classics. I've been saying for years that a movie like The Frighteners could be a big October staple on AMC if they'd just air it a few times.

The thing about cable that was so good, was you could have channels for niche media. Eventually though, all the unique channels slowly succumbed to the lowest common denominator, and because boring and dumb. Scifi, Discovery, Bravo, The Learning Channel, etc. Such a shame. There's something to be said for having a curated experience, over the trap of endless scrolling -- unable to decide which movie to watch. That's why I have a sub to Night Flight. My fav streaming service, not only does it have weirdo movies and show selections, it has a channel that you can just turn on and watch.
