Just love that there's finally a KZfaq video that lays it all out there. How AMD has always been innovative. Not what the Intel fanboys keep blabbing out. I've lived this from 1993, the first time I owned a computer, till now. I've owned AMD, Intel, ATI, Matrox, 3Dfx, Nvidia products over the years and have had the chance to experience the differences in performance across all those brands and different products.

You've outdone yourself Fabio. The amount of time you put into shows as it was very well put together. The All in Wonder Pro in the late 90's was my first ever GPU purchase, allowing me to use the 35" TV my parents had in our basement game room for some big screen DOOM and Wolfenstein action. It was definitely a wonder at the time.

Interesting video. Thanks for all your work. I know this involved a lot of time and research. My first AMD processor was an Athlon XP 1800+. I still have all my old AMD computers. The processors they have are an Athlon XP 3200+, an Athlon X2 4850e and an FX 8320e. The FX system was my main computer until last year when I bought a prebuilt system with a 3700X to get a video card. The FX system is a backup system now with the processor overclocked to 4.2GHz and is still able to run modern games. AMD has come a long way since I started using their processors. Things stagnated with the FX series but Ryzen was able to breath new life into the company.

My first AMD CPU was the K6-2, not sure about ATi/AMD GPUs but I have been all AMD for several years now with no regrets and next to no issues. My FX-8150/8350 wasn't retired until 2020 and replaced with a 3600X mostly due to X-Plane 11 requirements. Regarding the Radeon VII I was narrowly beat to a good second hand offer. Its gaming performance would have been "good enough" and its computing power for e.g. "Folding@Home" would have been out of this world. Presently a very content 5700XT user and in no real hurry to upgrade.

I truly enjoyed this documentary, great information and details. I appreciate all the work you put into this video and it was well presented as well. Good job man. Great Video Fabio. I guess I'll show my age here, started in the PC hobby with a IBM PC Clone running at a whopping 4.77mhz. My very first AMD CPU was a 386/40 (yes, 40mhz), it was considerably faster than Intel's 386/33. :) I also had a Athlon 650 slot-A (Not Socket-A) CPU, followed by a few Phenoms and then went Intel with a 4790k and am now back with AMD 5600x and 5900x. I also had a few ATI cards way back when, and I think the last time AMD/ATI had a faster GPU than nVidia was the 7970, it's why I had bought one of those LOL. I think if I had to take all the money I spent on computers over the years, I could probably buy a fancy exotic car. LOL Yep, I'm 63 and retired, remember the Commodore Vic-20, a whopping 3.5 killobytes of ram? Also, in my 386 days, one meg of ram was at times $100, then it went down to $50 a meg. Yes, computer stuff was outrageously expensive. A floppy drive for a Commodore Vic-20 or 64 and also for a Atari 400 / 800 was $600. We're talking about Canadian prices but still! OUCH!!!!!! LOL

I had a commodore 128 with an external floppy disk drive. 5.25 “ floppy disks.Remember those? Also used the tape deck for my comm 64. Wow the 80’s were great! But the computers suck back then. I love those ATI cards too. Loving my 6800xt. RDNA 2 is just amazing. But I hear RDNA 3 are going to be a beast! Cheers mate!

@@andyjoelharper3448 Indeed. I also had a TRS-80 Model 3 which I used to run a BBS, had bought a clearance 5 meg (yes Meg) hard drive for it at $1k. As for PC's I remember each time you bought a new add on card, you had to set the IRQ number and DNA channel number with onboard jumpers or else nothing would work, get all sorts of hardware conflicts. But once you had that set, it worked like a dream. LOL The bloody sound blaster cards were a pain, they always defaulted to the parallel printer port and always caused conflicts until you got them set just right (normally would have to change the jumper to IRQ-5) LOL I also remember using the tape drive for both Vic-20 and Atari 800, the Commodore tape system was far superior to that of the Atari, the Atari one was a royal pain to use. Oh the good old days, no spyware (windows10 and 11), not everyone needing to know your underwear size, you just used and configured your computer to what YOU wanted, not to what some manufacturer wants (Forced updates for software and also hardware firmwares). I actually miss the simplicity of those days! :)

As a computer enthusiast, I've had PCs from both teams, although I admit that I have more affection for AMD My first AMD cpu was a K6-2, then an Athlon XP 2200 and from there I jumped to an Athon 64 which I used for a few months and scaled to a 4400 x2 with 2 MB of cache which was a beast!

First off Fabio, thank you for the hard work on this. It must be a little disappointing to have so few views on this one compared to your driver news videos, but hopefully this becomes one of those videos that grows over time for the channel. I did want to give you some feedback though. I think I misunderstood what the documentary was going to cover and that was partly my fault because when I think "history of AMD innovations" I think about every product generation and the software that goes with it. So for example, I was expecting to see something mentioned for the legendary HD 9700 Pro XT or HD 7970, and also FreeSync or the failed TrueAudio. Also, I would have preferred separate videos for AMD CPU side and AMD GPU side - going back and forth was distracting. I think therefore that if you do decide to do an Nvidia edition of this video then it would be better to focus on... 1 - Every consumer generation release since the company started 2 - Every software innovation of that generation 3 - Skip the professional market stuff like Quadro & CUDA related. An Intel history would be boring I think. Anyway, I hope you don't mind getting this feedback. Again, I know you put a mountain of hard work into this and with the views it got I wouldn't blame you for laughing at my suggestions, but I love the channel content and thought it was worth my time to give my honest opinion. Have a great weekend my friend!

Thank you , this was just a bit of history alongside some innovations they brought to the market. I will most likely make a video for CPUs and GPU solely in the future, and yeah, I do believe it will get more views over time :D

Nice production, but you left out a couple of important items. Like the console wins with MS and Sony back in the day, and how Globalfoundries was formed from AMD's need for cash back then. Also how AMD got the x86 license and had to sue Intel to keep it, and how Intel HAD to adopt AMD 64 as a result of Intel's failure at their own 64bit implementation.. Yeah it would have added another 15 mins to the video. But the production work I know would of been another couple of days. So there's that. Keep up the good work.

Cool video. EDIT: Interesting to remember that Ryzen is not the first family of amd cpus that gave intel some competition. In all my life I had 3 intel cpus: 1 pentium, 1 core 2 duo mobile and 1 i5 2450m, also mobile. On amd I had duron, athlon 64, 3600x and now I have a 5700x. However I never owned an ati/radeon gpu. I hope lisa su gives me an excelent reason to buy my first one soon with the upcoming announcements.

Vega was worth mentioning as a really good miner card, and the 56 unlockable to "64" as cheap 1080 replacement for gaming. Today tuned and with modded drivers with rebar it smashes the 1080 in many games.

@marsovac
@marsovac Жыл бұрын
@@AncientGameplays not just power, you unlocked the HBM clock, and that was the main thing since Vegas were memory bandwidth starved both for mining and for gaming. I've put the quotes around "64" since it was not a real 64, but those compute units were not that much important on a card so much starved in memory bandwidth. I recall mine went from default 800 HBM to >1100. It would have scaled even more if it had faster memory. Even tough very compute oriented it was running Forza 5 at 1440p/High+HDR with nearly 120 FPS when clocked and SAM through Nimez drivers. Not a buy for the average user, but a good investment for a geek that mined its value a few times over. It paid my new GPU, so I cannot be harsh towards it. It was not a good card but it was the most profitable I have had since it bought me a gaming chair and a new GPU :)
