ive tested the new 3050 6gb on my channel a couple days back (in the LOQ 2023). I have another video of the 3050 6gb coming up where i blast it with AAA games. In the end, im impressed with the performance. VRAM matters

Yeah 3K resolution was overkill last year. 2.5K is more than enough for this display size. Lenovo definitely made the right move with the screen downgrade for better battery life.

Hey friend. That's EXCTLY my shortlist. Did you make a decision or buy either? My main concern for UX3404 is battery life -- OLED and 120Hz should theoretically take a hit on battery as opposed to 90Hz on this Lenovo machine and AMD being more efficient overall.

@@lordtardar4639 I'm still in the process of deciding, but I've since changed my mind on somethings since I posted. The Asus UX3404 that has an Nvidia 3050 is only available with an i9 pairing. For my personal GPU usage, moderate gaming and light video editing, I didn't think the extra heat dissipation and battery consumption was worth it. I don't mind fans when I'm gaming; I don't need it ramping up for Excel in an office. The Asus Q410/Q420, which is nearly identical to the UX3404 except that it comes with an i5 and i7, both with integrated graphics, but tested 9-hours running 120Hz. I don't think Andrew clarified what brightness he tested them at, but still 9-hours is pretty incredible. The only downside and what's stopping me from purchasing is that the Q-models have RAM soldered, and the highest RAM configuration is 16GB, whereas the UX-models have upgradeable memory, so I'm weighing whether the extra 16 GB is worth waiting for the UX-model to be released.

I wasn't satisfied with Asus, mine had loud fan noise under heavy load and I wasn't too keen on the keyboard (but I admit this is subjective), so I sent it back and bought a Lenovo Legion 7i Pro instead (not the slim model, the normal 2023 model with an RTX 4080 GPU with 12 GB VRAM). I am delighted with this after four weeks of using it. Absolutely silent even under load, in quiet mode, and enough performance to run my games at 60 FPS anyway (in quiet mode, it goes a lot faster in performance mode, but then you can hear the fans whooshing air around). It has vapour chamber cooling with liquid metal, which is great for cooling. That's what I was looking for. 99.99 Wh battery gives decent usage (decent for a gaming laptop, don't expect MacBook Air levels of battery life), always remains cool enough to use on my lap comfortably and completely silent when gaming. It's reasonably light and thin, too, so that I can carry it in one hand and slip it into my backpack. Gorgeous keyboard and screen. I've had burn-in problems using OLED screens on an older ThinkPad Carbon X1 laptop (although my desktop QD-OLED monitor doesn't suffer from this), so I deliberately wanted an IPS screen this time, and the Legion has one of the best laptop IPS screens out there. 240 Hz, 2560x1600 resolution, 16:10 aspect ratio, good colour accuracy and over 500 nits of brightness to use in daylight. It automatically switches to 60 Hz on battery, and back to 240 Hz again when plugged into mains power. Rock solid build quality, stable, fast and quiet operation, I really cannot recommend this enough. One downside is that the chassis design is not as premium-feeling as the previous 2022 model, but both performance and battery life is better, so I can live with that trade-off. Another downside is that it doesn't support any biometrics for Windows Hello, but I can live with logging in using my PIN code. It does have a webcam, but it doesn't seem to support Windows Hello login and there's no fingerprint reader (there was one in the 2022 model, sigh).

Both units were test with PC Mark 10 Modern Office Battery Test, 90Hz enabled on this unit with 40% screen brightness. On the Slim 7 Pro X same settings except 120Hz enabled.

The soldered ram is because it is so much closer to the CPU, giving the advantage of having 6400mhz, as opposed to the often 4800mhz. Big difference for any app that require ram speed.

personally for me, I'd rather have soldered ram, since I doubt I would open the bottom of the laptop, and if the extra space saved from soldered ram could be used for a bigger battery or better thermals I think its a great tradeoff

Two different types of devices. This is not a gaming laptop where the priority will be on performance, whereas this has to balance performance, battery life, thermals etc. So the optimizations are very different.

I got a brand new carbon X1 gen 11 and it wasn't what I wanted. The screen and keyboard are the best, but the touchpad had deadzones (one right in the middle), the battery life was only about 6 hours with firefox open, the red dot in the middle of the keyboard caused drift, and it was an absolute fingerprint magnet machine. I'm now thinking about this laptop since it's only $900 on best buy right now. Did you find any other good options yet?

The biggest issue is availability of new Zen-4 machines, especially for buyers like me who need a system upgrade sooner rather than later. I looked around the internet but didn't find much on when Lenovo's Zen-4 laptops could be unveiled. And with Lenovo, it usually takes weeks/months between unveiling and availability.

@@lordtardar4639 I contacted lenovo support to ask for the availability of this yoga with the new zen4 processors. They said they will be 100% available this summer. (I'm in europe, but I think this would be valid also for usa)

Battery last longer without gpu.

I went with the pro 7x. 32gb ram and 1tb memory. It charges fully in an hour and a half. Battery life does not really matter when i use it maybe 3-4 hours a day max. Performance and on board storage was a selling point for me

is 16GB not enough for regular users? if you seriously use your PC for frequent video editing, you would probably want to have several drives for example. This laptop here is not ment to be a workstation. It will be useful enough for editing your holiday videos.

I also develop a game and my workflow requires using a lot of tools in the same time as well as transferring a lot of data app to app. So in this case i might be a prosumer yet my job not does not require super screens, super big ssd nor super cpu or gpu but lots of rams. In the mean time games and operating systems getting in need of more ram. Also soldered ram does not really give the product any useful property.

@illumi1404 So far it's a great laptop very lightweight and easy to take on the go. Speed is great, hardware is nice, and touchscreen is responsive. Only thing I have against is the brightness and highly reflective glass screen can be hard to see in direct sunlight. The battery could be better as well but I Amp up the hardware often and always have the highest brightness on. It charges quick so I'm fine with it. Overall, for the value it is easily one of the best computers for that price point.

Lenovo made huge batch of Yoga laptops with soldered down 16GB RAM in 2022. Nobody wanted them, they had huge discounts, but even then nobody wanted them. So they rebranded the 2022 models to sell them out in 2023. The yoga 7 gen 7 6800u 32gb RAM Oled was out of stock ever since Christmas. This year they reassembled old parts with mini led panel and 16gb ram to make big sales.
