Hey man, awesome honest video. I particularly loved the alcohol segment!!! I went from spending hundreds (ok, a thousand) of dollars a month to way way less than a hundred a month after I started making my own wine. For me it works out less than 50c a bottle...I'm not in the states so it may be a dollar a bottle for you folks. And it don't take up much space. Cheers

Captain Richard here. I have planned the great loop trip since I was ten years old, growing up on Lake Erie. I'm now 61 yrs. old.! A retired U.S.Coast Guard Commander.. I know the route, I have a 32 foot Aluminum Cruiser with twin Chrysler Marine 360's. I get 1 to 1.25 mpg, or a burn rate of 2.5 gallons per hour at slow idle . With gasoline at $4.95 per gallon, I can't afford to do the loop.. My boat holds 200 gallons in 2-100 gallon tanks.. But it is still a top item on my wish list... Good Luck, Fair Winds and Following Seas.. But I think you will find your budget is way off...

@deanpeterson51633 жыл бұрын
I am also planning this in 2 years and would be interested in the response
@davidingraham19893 жыл бұрын
Hi Dean; When I get my boat I’ll get you the specs. Roughly 35 - 41, twins ( 300 - 400 hp diesels), 2005 - 2015 for insurance purposes. We’ve been looking at Beneteau 34 and 35, Meridian 408, Carver, Aquila (power cat) and Mainship. Kinda shying away fro Mainship due to the interior darkness. The engines I would like to have would be Cummins but not that definite. Electronics could go either way. I’m hoping for the newest but that again is minimal. We’re doing a Trawler school in December so that should answer a lot of questions. Where we start from may depend on where we buy the boat. Preferably east coast of Florida and maybe hire a Captain to take it to point B. Are you following anyone that has or is doing the loop? I got hooked on “What Yacht to Do” and have gone back to watch from day 1. I need to get a life but that will come soon. Stay in touch. David
@deanpeterson51633 жыл бұрын
@@davidingraham1989 What is the trawler school you are taking? I was looking for something in the mid 30’ range. I like the Kadey Krogen, Selene, Sabre, and American Tug in addition to,the ones you mention. I read the current version of The Loopers Companion and it changed my desire for a boat in the 40s. I think my biggest hurdle right now is figuring out how to get insurance. I had very similar ideas about getting started on the journey. I spend too much time on Yachtworld. Looking forward to hearing what you settle on and the reason. Dean

hi, I have done the loop twice, in 07 and 09, and am still cruising the west coast from Key Largo to the Erie. Just in my humble opinion, you might consider the average dock cost to be $1.50 a ft. FWIW we figure just about $200 Plus a day average costs overall and we seldom anchor out anymore.

We're in a 38' Taiwanese trawler, slow looping. Your marina costs are low. Figure on $2/foot/night. Monthly rates are just that.
@NoRegretsLifestyle3 жыл бұрын
Thanks and to manage that number it will require lots of anchoring
@michiganengineer86213 жыл бұрын
I'm expecting fuel prices (automobile) to almost double over the coming year, so _marina_ prices will likely jump even more. Go juice is pricier up North anyway so you need to keep that in mind as well. As others have mentioned, transient marina parking is much pricier then long term. However, I do believe that many places have FREE city tie ups for short term. Most of those won't have hook-ups for electric, water and pump-out though.
