I mean, if they'd listened to the marines when they went 'what if pump action shotgun... but 40mm grenade launcher' we could've had the China Lake as a field service weapon. Although I do admit that what was effectively a revolver grenade launcher was a pretty cool idea too, so if the pump action had to be outbid, at least it was by a respectable competitor.

It's like how the navy was having trouble getting their sailors familiarized with the new electronic periscope. They tried for days to get people trained with the fancy joysticks that came with the system and no-one could get the hang of it. Then someone had the bright idea of hooking up an Xbox controller to the system cuz they noticed the set up was pretty similar. It took the sailors 20 minutes to become pros at using the new cameras.

Dude I remember using these on deployment during my time in the Marines. I carried one in my assault pack, the whole system is actually somewhat heavy having to carry the drone itself, antenna, the tripod for the antenna, fat ass batteries and controller, the laptop, and all the wires to connect shit together. But it was honestly hilarious, yet pretty damn dark watching Taliban fighters realizing what's flying right at them and trying to run, only to get slammed with what essentially was a flying homing grenade looney toons style. The video feed freezes for a second on the last thing the switchblade sees before exploding too, so it'd just be a frame of the dude looking back with a terrified face while trying to run.

I imagine there's a group working on a Rapid Dragon style deployment system for both varieties of switchblade. I can only imagine a C17 dropping three crates, one deploying hundreds of the switchblades, dozens of the 600's, and as many Rapid Dragon crates they could cram in the back behind all that, all with predesignated targets.

Took me a second, but I found which exact weapon you were talking about (I knew it was Perfect Dark, so that narrowed it down). You are talking about the Slayer Rocket Launcher, which was a Skedar (weird enemy bug alien) weapon. It was fly-by-wire, and one of the cooler weapons in the game (I still stick with the Farsight, because shooting dudes on the other side of the map through about 6 walls will never not be cool). Best game mode we had in that game was Proxies only. It was a really slow start but eventually you couldn't move, and if you did, you blew up, when you respawned, you blew up. Seriously, we mined entire maps and learned how to mine people (it would blow up if you or anyone else approached them, or they got too close to a wall). Great times.

Some people in the comments have mentioned using these to take out other drones, and I’m just watching WW1 aerial combat re-evolving in drone warfare. First they were used for reconnaissance, then someone went “I could drop a bomb from that.” Now we’ve got specialized bombers, and I’m just waiting for a drone with some sort of anti-drone weaponry. A .22lr gun? Something else? Who knows? But I eagerly await the drone dogfights.

I can understand the tern kamikaze drone, but when you think about it, it;s keeping the troops safe to fight another day, while making the other side paranoid about hearing a buzzing noise coming from the sky.
@theprogressivecynic2407
@theprogressivecynic2407 Жыл бұрын
Worse, the enemy doesn't even get to hear the buzzing. It uses an electric motor and moves at nearly 100mph. Even some jet-based drones don't let you hear them coming. The Iranian Shahed-136 suicide drones are relatively easy to hear coming (or see), as they only move at 110mph on final approach, and so there is a perception that such drones are similar (you've likely seen the footage from Ukraine). There's a reason why you likely haven't seen many videos of the Israeli Harpy drone (which the Iranians bootlegged to create their Shahed 129 and 136), as that moves at over 250mph on final approach and, by the time anybody hears it, they're already screwed.

I enjoy watching all your videos. I am not military but I did work for the military for many yrs. I use to set up the Abrams M1M2Sep simulators and train the soldiers before they went into Iraq. In addition, I also setup and trained soldiers on the Bradly simulators. I trained at Fort Knox and Ft. Benning prior to Certifying on the Unit of conduct fire training system to include the Abrams. My last station was as a firing range repairing the targets (365) SIT, MIT, MAT systems. Also, simulator training, Engagement skills training. I saw Apache helicopter hover 100 of the deck and blaze the targets I had to later repair (but loved doing it). I saw Abrams tanks fire live. It was the most exciting job I ever had. I saw and meet a Seal Team come in and practice on the range and meet some of these bad ass in person. No shit, one asked me for a cigarette. I gave him the whole pack. I was also, once made honorary member of the 41 Calv. For my work on the training systems, received a coin. The other techs before me were assholes to the soldiers. Me, I was proud to be there and treated them with respect. I love the military, however one day after work going home, 2nd shift (1:30pm to 9:30pm). I was hit by a drunk driver head on and ended my carrier. Your videos are god dam assume. Keep making them they are the best. By the way. I am from Texas. I saw that video too.
