We Indians have the second largest Poseidon fleet and we are mighty impressed by it. We are not only using it over the seas but also along the mountainous Himalayas, spying on China.

Mass producing the P-8 Poseidon class aircraft will reduce it's cost by 90% when the hardware is already one of the least expensive vehicles in the US military. This may happen should a war break out and the platform becomes an outright patrol missile launcher where ever it is stationed to monitor. Because of its high altitude flight preference, the system setup can utilize more budget friendly weaponry to execute any operational missions. I wouldn't be surprised if the vehicle was a main platform that an F35 fighter or other stealth aircraft would send data to, where ordinance would be expelled in due time.

The ability for multiple systems within a fleet to talk with each other is changing the approach of modern warfare, even with ground troops

The addition of LRASM and MALD would be a huge force multiplier for the navy. The carrier air fleet is constrained by range and payload especially compared to the days when the F-14 and A-6 were in service. MALD is a critical capability in overcoming and saturating air defences. It would potentially free up the F-18s to carry more ordnance in lieu of MALDs. Combined with the P8’s range and loiter capability it provides the navy with a capability it otherwise would not have. The navy could use more P8s if it’s going to increase it’s capabilities.

Adding more capacity makes it more potent. As a naval assets get destroyed, the need for a submarine hunter would become diminished and the need would switch toward bombers. Also it could be produced easier.

The P8 has already been sold to many many allies. Add these additional capabilities. The U.S. & it's Allies could use these for everything besides Dog fighting. The Airforce has recently added A2A Missiles. Imagine these devastating impacts this could bring to the Battlefield.

I have flown in dozens of 737s. Now I can say I have flown in awesome bombers!

2 versions of P-8's the Posidon and Trident would be interesting. One would be a patrol craft manned as advertised. The other would be a flying aresenal loaded up with air to air missiles, longrange surface attack missiles , and would be generally backing up F-22's and F35's ..... Stealth fighters target things and use the Tridents cargo capacity and keep their internal missiles for emergencies... Yeah there are ways to counter "quantity".

Can LASRAM fit P8 as well as B1 with F14 or F16 escort to help defense marinetime challenge and support operation of carrier battle groups currently in the active navy?

Weapons the navy should consider adding to the P-8A Poseidon are the AIM-9XBlock 2+ Sidewinder, AGM-158C LRASM, AIM-120D AMRAAM and the new AIM-260 JATM Air to Air Missile

The P-3 always had two of these capabilities. ASW and the ability to carry mines and bombs. The only reason it didn't have the other capabilities was that they hadn't been invented yet.

That is a great looking airplane and it can do so much for the Navy and the government should have them heavily armed for their own defense and for offensive operations as well to make sure the area around the U.S., it's territories and allied nations are protected from enemy attack from submarines and aircraft.

This is basically what the Japanese P-1 is to be used. It can carry various anti ship missiles, bombs and, anti air missiles like the AAM-3. It has more hard points than the P-8.

AMRAAM missiles are also an option. Perhaps most important in self-defense. But guess it could also be integrated with air defense systems such as NASAMS.

On P-3 ‘s , one could see the MAD tail , where is the MAD on the P-8 ? Also , we used to have various rotary wing ASW birds , now we have only the 60 variant. We also used to have S-2 and S-3 FW ASW platforms which are long gone. In view of China’s Submarine forces exponential growth , is there any thought on FW , Carrier borne ASW AC?

Looks like desperate reaction to what has been known for years and that is the US airforce, despite all its other abilities, is very very short of bombers that could be escorted into battle as in WW2 for pin point saturation of major targets. From my point of view, Cruise missile are proving to slow and easy to be destroyed in high end combat situations like a war with Russians or Chinese. Existing numbers of B-1 & B-2 bombers are to small in number and costly to buy and maintain. The B-52 the mainstay of current bomber force is fast approaching total airframe life and rapidly needs a replacement. Ten years of extended flights during the Middle East and Afghanistan wars has caught up with this ageing aircraft

Thedre is talk that Australia will be increasing its P8 Poseidon fleet as it deploys the Triton UAV and new aircraft open the opertunity for some to be converted to the bommber role. Australia is increasing its military spend percentage of GDP faster than most other countries as China attempts economic and cyber warfare against it and I wouldn't be surprised by significant developments from Australia over the next 5 years.

It has refueling capability, so can come from anywhere and attack. Just have gas available, and the navy is building drones for that.

Turning the world's most common civilian airliner into a military bomber is possibly not a good idea. From the ground, the silhouette of the two would be identical, the radar profile would be identical... Does John Doe Enemy sitting at the controls of his S300 know if it's a P-8 about to bomb him or a 737 full of vacationers? The profile is the same.

Well now! We're making 737s a military target. That's the last straw. I'm never flying in another 737 again.
