The use of sign language in this song is conceptual, not literal. The goal is to paint a picture. Therefore, we do not sign every single word, even though all words are sung. Also, since a word may have more than one meaning, it may also have more than one sign.
In our music classroom, we use sign language as another way to show musical expression. Sign language can enhance the performance of the song, and as in choral choreography, it may also add interest for the participant as well as the observer.
