Americans, unlike Europeans, live in a bubble surrounded by more Americans... and then oceans. Being French and knowing something about Spain or Germany, is on par with being from Florida and knowing things about Texas or Georgia. Relevance dictates personal knowledge.

As a German, I am stunned to see two ladies who both are honest about firing stereotypes without getting disprespectful. Many, if not most, Germans would get very upset when being adressed with other people's pov's and would likely see it as a provocation, or even a confrontation, and would maul back... That was both, very entertaining and extremely interesting to watch. Good job, please keep up with it.

The US is pretty big. The interesting thing when our representative was talking was I was like that’s not all of us. You pretty much need two or three people from the United States in different places to get a more full view of the United States.

Aussies also say sorry instead of excuse me if we bump into someone by accident. If someone said excuse me in that situation, I'd think, "Why, do you need to get past me?" We usually only say excuse me if we need someone to get out of our way or we're trying to get their attention.

That fact that she thinks the Constitutional right to bear arms is about self defense is why she doesn't understand how people can support it. The US Constitution does not grant people rights, it is supposed to prevent the government from infringing upon their innate rights, because the Founders knew that the biggest threat to liberty is the government itself. The first amendment is the same (and all others); it does not grant the right to free speech or religion, it prohibits the Congress from passing laws that curtail those freedoms.

@9:03 Shannon is not exaggerating one bit. Me, a Swede, in Miami in 2006. Going inside an elevator. A random American instantly "Hi, how're you doing" and seconds later "What do you do? [for a living]". I was shocked. That is unheard of in Sweden and northern Europe in general.

There’s a difference between stupidity and ignorance, despite the fact that they usually go hand in hand. There’s a lot Americans aren’t taught about the world around us and because we’re so caught up in our own issues, many sadly don’t care. But to make a sweeping statement that “Americans are stupid” after we accomplished so much in the fields of science and industry is in and of itself a little ignorant.

I’m American and I believe stupid people exist in every country including my own. But then one must ask how they define “stupid”. I have met people from different countries who weren’t fully literate in the native language and had little formal education. Typically anywhere in the world whenever people are poor they tend to have less access to and fewer resources to travel. Also there is a difference between don’t know and don’t care. I read at least 10 news websites a day and the tv in my office is usually tuned to a cable news network. But that is for work. I only have a passing personal interest in other countries’ politics and I don’t appreciate non-Americans trying to engage me in conversations about US politics which has happened a lot. I don’t ask non-Americans about their countries’ policies nor do I tell them my unsolicited opinions on what their countries do. Also I don’t really agree about the fast food thing but maybe it depends on where you live, your situation and your cultural background. I eat out a lot. I don’t eat fast food a lot. For one thing FF doesn’t tend to serve a lot of the foods we eat that require more preparation time like meat loaf, pot roast, ribs, jambalaya to name a few. I grew up eating Shepherds Pie. However, I don’t have children. I find that most people I know who have children tend to cook a lot. We have people in the country who are receiving government aid to buy food. Fast food restaurants don’t take food stamps. I highly doubt most people can afford to take two adults and four kids to McDonald’s or wherever every day. It’s the fact that we have so many people that these companies can do a lot of business but doesn’t mean everyone constantly goes.

I know many Americans (I am American) who are very smart and know nothing about their own history or geography or other countries, yet they became incredible surgeons or lawyers, or started some successful charities. There is a large segment of the American population that feel like intelligence should be directed towards a career, especially a money making career and why focus on things like history and geography that won't feed your kids. I'm not one of them or I wouldn't be watching this, but I have many acquaintances who are outstanding "in their field" in areas that I could never be (like medicine) and can't find their own state on a US map, "Who cares? I'm an award winning surgeon."

I just wanted to bring this up in connection with the semi-automatic gun mentioned, a semi-automatic gun in fact does not fire loads of bullets in a second, it's one bullet to one trigger pull. An automatic gun shoots loads of bullets but those are banned in the US.

I find shannon so relatable! I can agree with like everything she says. would be fun if she was from NC - even my accent sounds like hers (moved to two different continents after NC so my accent changed and it now sounds like hers lol)

The "free country" one was weird. She saying that yes if you have a certain opinion people will put you in a certain category but that doesn't mean your freedoms are taken away. Some people make the mistake of wanting to do what they want with out any judgement or criticism. But just because someone criticizes you doesn't mean you're not free. You can say and do what you want but don't expect not to get a reaction.

Not an American here (Albertan/Canadian), but the reason for the right to bear arms is to prevent governments from eroding citizen's rights without their approval. It is even mentioned within the full clause of the second amendment.

Yeah, I just got to comment on something, as no matter where you stand on the gun debate, people should make their arguments with truths. For example: semi-automatic weapons (which a large portion of handguns and rifles are in the U.S., btw) don’t spit out a thousands of bullets in a minute (that’s fully automatic). Semi-automatics are one trigger pull, one bullet. I’ve yet to see anyone who can pull a trigger anywhere near a thousand times in a minute. And you can only fire the number of rounds loaded in the magazine (NOT clip); I’ve never seen a magazine that holds thousands of rounds before-that would be too large to be practical. Now, you can argue that no one should even have THAT capacity, and you have your right to that belief. But please, use facts to convey those beliefs. And, no, I’m not a gun nut-I’ve never owned a firearm.

Fully automatic are extremely difficult to get and very heavily regulated since the 1980s. Also, look up "journalists try to buy g-- same day, unable to do so." You'll find any number of stories & videos along those lines. It's so disheartening when people literally don't know what the issues are or how the hardware functions, then tell the rest of the country how to think in their ignorance.

As a French, I am seeing how close we are to British people in the field of human interactions - yes, read again this revolutionary sentence and think twice about it, because I think it is usually really underestimated (old rivalry between bot nations, romance and german languages, and so forth...). Also AR mean Armalite which is the company that made the gun designed for civilian use and doesn't mean Assualt Rifle. She should have said alot of (not all) Americans are content at being ignorant about another cultures (this also includes the ones within the US itself) and figures that the world revolves around the US, which it does not....and yes I am a American myself so I know how ignorant some people are and they're happy to stay that way.

This is exactly whats wrong people aren't educated about something but still try to educate others. A semi automatic weapon is not the same as a automatic weapon. Semi automatic means you have to pull the trigger to shoot. So its impossible to shoot several rounds a sec with a semi automatic weapon which also includes pistols. So that part just sounded misinformed and spreads more misinformation
