The Custis-Lee mansion is perhaps the most beautiful place to visit when in the DC area. This is a must-see on your tour of the nation’s capital!

When I was 11 in the spring of 1963 my mom had me walk down the hill and took my picture. Several months later that became exact location of Kennedy grave

Arlington house is really call the Lee Custis house - when the North won the war they confiscated the Lee Custis house and eventually the land around it would be Arlington Cemetery. Robert E. Lee - his wife Custis.

'Eventually it would become'. That's a nice way to say it, but here's the ugly truth.. When Sec.ofWar Edwin Stanton's son was killed in battle, he committed a war crime by burying him right up next to General Lee's house. In his wife's flower garden while the war was still goin on. Then he ordered more dead Union soldiers to complete the war crime known as Arlington.

I wish Lee could have reclaimed Arlington and some property after the civil war, for his family to occupy.

Vivian S, Then Lee will have to have all the graves exhumed and reburied elsewhere.

@@spreadeagled5654 Many old homes have cemeteries which cannot be disturbed, unless they’re forgotten about, and built upon.

When you are at war and your forces gain ground into enemy territory, you'll eventually take the hometowns of the men you're fighting against. But to jump in while the war continues and bury hundreds of your dead soldiers around the house of your opposing commanding general. That's an ugly despicable war crime.

Mike the Bike. It probably looked ugly at the time, but it's an honor to be buried there now. When I watched Ken Burn's "Civil War" and with David McCullough narrating....the way he talked about it....I didn't really think it was a slap in the face to the South or Robert E. Lee. I really like Robert E. Lee....great General etc. but he did commit treason.
