I read once that there are 4000 US immigrants staying in Cape Town. There are Americans and South Africans who have said that there should be more cultural exchanges between the two. The USA and South Africa have also had similar histories. And, it seems that almost whatever happens in the one country also happens in the other. (For instance in 1994 both countries moved more away from isolation and into the international community. South Africa was with the first democratic elections, and the USA was with the Soccer World Cup.) So, a case of Americans staying in South Africa, and South Africans staying in the USA having a blending of the two cultures.

OH my gracious goodness! I've been laughing the whole time watching your video to the fact that I can literally relate with Preston. What relates me more is when he said about like you seem like to be choking everytime I have to speak a G word in Afrikaan words. Lol Anyway, I am from Philippines and my fiancé is from South Africa and I am currently in Capetown right at this moment while watching this video. Been here in South Africa for 3 years back and forth. And next week me and my fiancé will travel to my country for the second time and we gonna spend holidays there together with my family. I am glad that I saw your video as I was just looking for the "happy birthday" song in Afrikaans for my mother in-law coming birthday on 10th of December. Now I will surely subscribe and would love to see more of your videos.

"It should be called choking" HAHAHA even as an Afrikaans-speaking person, this is SO TRUE. Most difficult word for non Afrikaans-speaking people to say: GRILLERIG (GRIL- LE-RIG) adj. Pronounced with hard G and hard R. Google translates as "gross", but its meaning is closer to "gives me the creeps". The way the word sounds is

AWESOMENESS!!! I love LOVE ❤️ it... hilarious ~hear it in mommas way...pahahahahahaha!!!!! 🤗 I had my Shabutzi, Brooklyn here watching with me and I can’t tell you which of us was grinning more her or me, lol we both were laughing and grinning from ear to ear the entire video. It sure made Mas morning even greater! So after Brooklyn says-- “Mawmaw Uncle Preston is going to be so happy to see me, tell Uncle Preston I am coloring him “a Monique in Africa” picture and not to “cold a catch”, because it’s cold outside and he might get a cough.” And she goes on with- “Tell him thank you for the video and for Praising the Lord-the end!” Yep the exactly how she’s told me all..figured your so good at translating you would know she meant “catch a cold” lol and I know you all love the Praising the Lord part! Momma can’t wait and we are counting the....missing and love you guys ,,,,not long not long!!!! Love Your Biggest Fans, Ma & Shabutzi

I love her smile and how she's beautiful and adorable, especially when looking at you. I feel relaxed when I watch this video, first time I found your channel because I'm curious about Xhosa but also other languages in the world. P.S : noises around 6:21 are very too loud for the headphone guy I am, and out of control in the mixing, I wouldn't crank the volume that high next time ^^

Nicole van Niekerk Doesn't change the fact that out of 11 official languages we forced to learn this one. It definitely should be a choice of home language and first additional. I hate the fact that I had a language forced on me.

My pastor is from Greenville in the USA and he speaks afrikaans very fluently. He preaches in afrikaans but his accent comes out strong still.

20 years ago many South African radio stations had chat rooms on the Internet. I learned reading writing everything of Afrikaans after 10 years of chatting on OFM's chat room. I didn't learn the sounds, so for that I listened to Radio Sonder Grense on the Internet. About 10 years ago, the South African radio stations were concerned with stalkers and liability and closed most all of their chat rooms.
Binne vyf jaar het dié Chinees Afrikaans geleer
