Greetings. First, thank you for providing a platform where we can all learn and unlearn. On the issue of black/ African Americans Vs Africans, as an African, I guess the misconception also stems from the fact that we hardly get to interact i.e. majority of Africans have not travelled outside the continent and also majority of African Americans have also not travelled and those who do, are likely to visit the upper coast of Africa i.e. the Ghana's and Gambia's only and not inland. It's very rare to meet African Americans in East , Central or Southern parts of Africa. That has provided a breeding ground for baseless animosity, mistrust and fueled stereotypes which shouldn't be a thing especially in this era. Diversity should be celebrated and not to be used as tool to divide. Thank you for being game changers and change makers.

With due respect, I will take any written words about history by Europeans with a grain of salt. I have read that oral traditions passed down through the centuries among the Portuguese and the Cape Verdeans indicate that the islands were not always uninhabited. According to these stories, Santiago was inhabited by Wolofs, natives of Senegal and Gambia, both west African coastal nations; and that Sal was inhabited by Lebu, Serer, the Felup. Even the Mali Empire sent ships with Mandinka people to Cape Verde, hence you can find Mandinka influences in Cape Verdean language and culture. Appreciate you guys 💯🖤 🇨🇻 👍🏿

This is not true also. Cape Verde was indeed uninhabited and to say otherwise is fake news. I’m proudly African but let’s go with what is true. Phoenicians were in Cape Verde at one point but they were middle eastern.

The biggest population of Cape Verde is in Boston lived there over 30 years, now live in Georgia at my work place in Jackson, GA which 80% is black Americans I see Cape Verdeans faces every day…❤

Cesaria Evora, "the Queen of the Morna" has made the biggest impression internationally. However the first Cape Verdean to grace the American imagination was the harpooner Dagoo in Herman Melville's Moby Dick (1851). Cape Verdeans first arrived in United States as whalers in the late 1700's and have been coming ever since, bringing a distinctive Portuguese-African Kriolu flavor to communities across Southern New England and beyond.

Just browsing through youtube i found a youtube channel about an africanamerican family that lives abroad in Spain, their videos are great, just leaving it here as a recommendation for you guys (you dont really have to react if you dont want, but they are a lovely family and I feel that you would enjoy their experience very much).
