I'm so fortunate that I am a South African who lives in Angola, has lived in Mozambique, spent good amounts of time in each East African State and traveled most of Africa. There's no continent I'd rather be. And I have been to the US, the Carribean and Europe too. I always looked forward to coming back home, to Africa. Thanks for the reaction.

Last comment, I promise 😂. Nigerians are LOUD but in a good way. We're very expressive, it might come across as showing off but we learn early that YOLO. Make the best of it. You're not going to come back again to live the same life, so why are you timid and hiding?. And lastly, it's such fun to have a Nigerian personality to be with. There's always good vibes and happiness. You can't get bored. (People are different tho, there are quiet and reserved Nigerians too). But all in all.. Nigerian= Good people, great Nation

Crazy thing is africa in general is sooooo safe. Like because alot of the countries are community based, people really take care of each other. Ofcourse there are some unsafe pockets but when I compare it to the rest of the world. It’s pretty peaceful except from a few outliers. The most “scary” thing that would happen is someone stealing …

Many Western diplomats spend their tour of duty ABSOLUTELY TRASHING my country Kenya in all foreign media spaces to anybody who will listen while they serve in those roles. Then immediately AFTER their tour of duty is done...they turn around buy property in Kenya some marry locals then NEVER LEAVE! The stereotype that Africa is dangerous came from post-independence Africa. Africa was in chaos after most countries gained independence. There were many Civil wars and military coups. There were also genocides recorded during those Civil wars. You also need to understand that Africa had little to no voice in the mainstream media and most of the reports coming from the continents were the alarming chaos.

Some people are very ignorant of the security issues in Nigeria that they tend to either oversimplify or underplay it. Nigeria is very big and towns or cities in states are relatively safer than each other. People party in Lagos every other day, but some towns in the North are dangerous. It still doesn't mean some towns or cities in the North are not safer than some in the South. Insecurity in Nigeria has an external agenda to it and it's a resultant effect of the civil war in Libya. The Nigerian armed forces are doing a lot to fight terrorism. Most states in Nigeria are safe and nobody is shooting everyone or kidnapping everyone. Nigerians in diaspora are as ignorant as the next person. They don't even understand the situation of the country. It's about perspective and living the reality. The media has done a lot in ruining Nigeria's image as much as the people.

About the question of where the stereotype of "Africa is dangerous" comes from, for me, I think it's simple. Like you said, there are dangerous parts everywhere, but you know the media, once they notice something negative especially in certain continents or countries, they love to exaggerate. Once they see a certain place in Africa that isn't so wealthy, they exaggerate and make it seem like the whole of that country is like that, once they see that a certain place in Africa is dangerous, they make it seem like the whole of that country is dangerous. Sometimes these stereotypes affects certain people, their mentality and they begin to play into it "if others view me this way, then what makes me think I can be anything better".. even other Africans without realizing, go ahead passing these negative stereotypes to others, their children, people from other countries and other continents etc. Now, I'm not defending anyone or saying this is the case for everyone, I'm just trying to explain some of where I think it might be coming from.

Africans who are newcomers to Europe or North America actually don't know they are "Black" until they come to North America or Europe or have learned the term from popular culture, social media, etc. The "Black" identity was created by Europeans who created slavery, racism, colonization, etc in order to support their oppression of others. The "Black" term was put on the Africans 400 years ago that were kidnapped to North America, it was put on the Kourri people in Australia, and on the people in South Africa. The Africans in Africa identify by their ethnic group, culture, traditions, thousands of years of history. Therefore the idea of identifying as "Black" is strange and foreign. Because the term Black, which was created by the Europeans slots them into a CASTE SYSTEM that African newcomers have never experienced on the basis of skin color.

Well concerning the ones they said "except you are white they could kidnap you". Actually it's not about race, it's about the money they could make from it. Dollars has more use, so when a kidnapper sees a white it's "chaii look at beta money wey we fit make ooo" they will be like "ogbeni hw far nah game day oo, shey u dey game" stuff like that. It's actually not about race. It even happens among us coz once you show ur extravagant lifestyle, ya they notice you and toh your own don go. Whether you are white or purple has nothing to do with us. Nah hustling game everyone dey.

In South Africa traditional clothes are very expensive. So we wear for special traditional ceremonies. Eg weddings etc Or if you want to show off, wear it for other ceremonies besides traditional

What we africans mainly mean by: "it's too dangerous to go to!", is usually spiritual wise cause in lots of places deep in the villages they practice REAL witchcraft. I speak from MANY experiences.

Nahh, at all.. I don't know why anyone would say being among the locals isn't safe. Not saying the security in Nigeria is one of the best, but being among the locals is definitely not dangerous. Maybe that person comes from the wealthy part of Lagos and just assumed
