some Filipinos can relate about the homesick story because some of us are working abroad so we understand the feelings of being far away from the family, relatives and friends...

its not your fault sister, alot of Americans have that problem, maybe you should have travelled in America first and seen that there are places there that don't have a shower at all. Its good you open your mind. I actually felt safer in the Philppines than what i did in America. beautiful Islands beautiful people. enjoy it.

You missed your shower, that's pretty amusing. Seems like yeah you were not prepared for what PI was about. I went there in 1989, twice, as part of a military deployment. Good luck to you, and Bless you. I respect people that have given their life over to missionary work, and do good things. On my ship, the Chaplain, who was a Methodist Minister from North Dakota was my best friend. My wife and I are moving to Thailand in a month. I'm a Buddhist. Again, best of luck.

If you don't want to experience a shower with the bucket. Then should have stayed in more expensive place. That's what you get for staying in cheaper place.

Hi! Ma'am.try to Manila. There's a different culture in every region here ma'am. In Luzon we have a different culture in Visayas have a different culture. And there a different culture in Mindanao. We have a 20 plus dialect. and we have a shower in the city.like here in Angeles City, Pampanga, Philippines.

Good job for going to that country. First is, I agree with BenGunns, you should have stationed first within America bago ka lumabas ng America. Mahirap talaga ang buhay sa Pilipinas pero what you have experienced is nothing compared to what people experience everyday. Bakit ko nasabi yun? Gamin ket adda met allowance yo nga missionary, haanen problema didiay. Ti laeng ubraen yo ket apan agiwaras sao ni Apo Dios. Ngem kasatno ngata wenno kayam ngata no kailangan ti apan agtrabaho nga mano laeng ti sweldo kakaasi kanto mangbudbudget para iti pamilyam? To live like that everyday, ayeh nagrigaten. Napadasam ti bassit la a rigat ngem tatta ammom no kasano kadakkel ti blessing ken sika ni Apo Dios di met? Amin kuma adda ditoy west nga agkara complain ket maipan ti kasdiay a lugar, agbaliw siguro, maging thankful iti namarsua ania? Stay safe no adda ka pay dita Pinas. God bless.

You called yourself "sister" and a "missionary", but you did not elaborate whether you're a Catholic or Mormon. I'm originally from Manila, Philippines, and in 1971, I had the opportunity to study nursing in England. Talk about culture shock. I arrived there in October, very cold, snowing, and when the crews at the tarmac of the airport were conversing, you could see smoke coming from their mouths, like dragons. Yes, they also have toilets outside their houses, called outhouse. And talk about food. Have you tasted British foods? It's yucky! Everything is boiled and overcooked.
