Has it ever happen to you that you watch films or TV series but you hear a lot of unfamiliar words, phrases and idioms? This can be frustrating! You can't really enjoy your movie! Simply because of slang and idioms. So, in this lesson, we're going to look at some American and British slang and idioms that I have recently seen in movies and TV series!
To make it more practical, after each idioms or slang, I have used parts of movies and TV series where they have been used! In this way, you can have an idea of the context where these idioms and slang words can be used!
Here are the timestamps for your convenience:
00:00 intro
00:50 Part 1: American slang & idioms
06:55 Dialogue 1: How to use idioms and slang in speaking
08:07 Part 2: British slang & idioms
11:24 Dialogue 2: Using idioms and slang in speaking
I hope you enjoy this lesson. Let me know what you think in the comments!
Cheers!
Maddy

If you ever get the chance, please don't stop creating those vocabulary-in-context videos in which you basically teach the idioms and collocations in the relevant environments. BTW, your video was a Chef's kiss as always.

Interesting. I'm from Canada and we have a similar saying to "throw a spanner in the works" but it's "throw a wrench in the gears". I find in Canada we sometimes have a blend of British and American

Hello, Teacher Maddy. Always a pleasure to watch and learn from your videos. I also really like studying with your General English Course. I'd like to ask you something. I downloaded your Ultimate Book a while back. After that, we received an addition, including material from 3 of your videos. Will we get such a supplement for your videos made since then? Thanks for the videos. 🙂

For “spanner” in English, we’d say something through a wrench 🔧 . Same thing. We just call it a wrench, not a spanner. That’s cool.
