As United fan, I would like to suggest two of Manchester United and England’s best midfielders Paul scholes and Carrick. Truly watching carrick play was something else his passing technique and his ability to read the game and predict it’s flow allowed to intercept passes and defend so perfectly in his 12 years of playing for United he never got red card. In my personal opinion, peak Rooney was almost on par with Ronaldo and Messi. It's just that his peak did not last as long as either of them (which makes Messi and Ronaldo that much incredible, to keep up such play for so many years, but shouldn't take away from the sheer legend that Rooney was). I was actively following United at the time this man played and he was my favourite footballer, absolutely insane to watch. He was strong as all hell, and tougher than a tank. His stamina was crazy too, man pressed the ball every chance he got. And of course, that right foot. Great power, but more importantly that sniper like accuracy. His long range shots were so good. To me, he's the literal definition of a secondary striker, and in my personal opinion I have not seen anyone play that position better than him. Rooney and Ronaldo were basically unplayable together. You could argue that they were really the only big superstars at Man United around that time, with a lot of the teams best players like Giggs, Neville etc not getting any younger and a lot of the team was comprised of utility players like Park Ji Sung, Darren Fletcher, John O Shea etc and yet they still managed to win trophy after trophy.

It's good you guys went out and played with a ball, it's really helped you have a better grasp of just how difficult some of the things you're seeing really are. If you haven't yet, you should really try to play in an actual game, everything moves so much faster when you're actually on that field instead of just watching a zoomed out tv angle. The speed with which professional players have to play the ball and control and make split second decisions is insane, especially in the Premier League where the intensity is relentless. The best players are always thinking 10 moves ahead. If you wait until you receive the ball to try and think about where to play it you're already dead. Plus there's so much movement all around that you have to constantly keep track of, you realize just how ridiculous the spacial awareness required must be for these players to even see some of those crazy passes, much less having the technical ability to actually pull it off. Even if it's just five a side, please find somewhere to play if you can, it would be a good next step in the progression of this youtube channel!

advice: try to drible the ball without running, in smaller areas, like your house's hallway or in the goal area when you go to practice, you might be able to understand how to get softer touches first moving slow, and then trying it faster, and with what part of the foot might be better in different situations, like with the instep of the foot for a soft touch or the inner edge for a controlled and maybe more intentional touch, like a soft pass to yourself. some players that you have seen in this compilations also make great touches with the outer edge of the foot as well, to dribble and when they try curvy shots to apply more rotation to the ball

It's actually what differs players like Neymar, Messi and Mbappe from others, the ability to max sprint while controlling the ball. It's incredibly hard to do with 1 or 2 defenders chasing you. You might have been told already, but turn your foot so that your toe is pointing down and touch the ball with the top of your foot. This will allow you to get a tighter control. When him and Ronaldo were both youngsters at United Rooney was genuinely the better player. Ronaldo was incredible but he was still raw. Rooney was so mature at such a young age. Played like a player in his prime as a teenager. Obviously there came a point where Ronaldo just exploded and went clear and Rooney declined at a relatively young age. You wouldn't believe that he's younger than Ronaldo and yet he's already a manager that looks close to 50. But that takes nothing away from him good he was in his prime. In terms of other players I'd love to see a Drogba reaction. He wasn't the most prolific striker but he's arguably the best big game player ever. My favorite comparison of an NFL player to Rooney would be, like, Peyton Hillis if he was good for 20 years, or Jerome Bettis later career. Seriously, try dribbling at a jogging pace, just try to push the ball 3-5 yards in front of you. Dribbling at walking speed is actually in a way a tiny bit harder. If you can us your dominant foot to push the ball forward and jog consistently in a straight line, you will be able to start bringing in more subtle touches and maybe changes of direction. Jogging will train your touch naturally a jogging dribble is a much better fundamental than a walking dribble, bring slowing down and speeding up from there. 70% of the game is at jogging pace with the ball, so that's the speed and dynamic you should focus on. Its different with young kids, I would say start with walking the ball, then jog, as they will absorb it like a sponge, but with Adults, IMO its about building a few fundamentals and going from there. Also focus on your dominant foot, get that decent and you will find the other foot gets better in that time naturally so when and if you want to train it you can, 1 foot IS enough though Other things to train: Trapping= Trapping/controlling the ball on the ground (and eventually in the air), this is about trying to absorb the balls force. Along the ground get fully in front of the ball and trap with you instep. with your dominant foot Side Foot pass=,Using the instep/arc of your dominant foot most basic of all passes, if you can do this at least decent , and control a ball on the ground, you can play football Laces= striking the ball as a shot , head over the ball when you make contact (keeps the shot lower) follow through completely, laces like kicking a field goal, try to make sure *head over ball, *good balance *smooth follow through in a straight line Wall training= 1 person enough space to kick a ball about and a wall you can bounce the ball off. practice shooting trying to hit spots on the wall, but also try and control the rebounds, This trains ALL of the above, also aerial, reading of ball movement/spin etc etc etc etc, best singular drilling you can possibly do, in theory you could train a player from this alone, and a good way to turn it into a game by yourself. f you know someone else who plays, then 1 becomes 2 and no wall needed If you start getting the hang of this, start trying to juggle the ball , this develops aerial skill and your over all touch Dribbling, in and out of cones dominant foot at first and then try and bring your other foot in as you get better Heading is a matter of timing jumps and following through to direct header with head/neck and shoulder rotation That's my basic crash course (I am 41 have been playing on and off in teams since 5 years old,and started kicking a ball at 2 years old)
