As someone that never listened to emo growing up, for some reason, this song makes me feel nostalgic for the days when i had my first crush, the days of getting up and watching tv before school, the days of trying to no cry because of all the verbal bullying, the days of getting through the day and being optimistic about the fact that you did it, you made it through life, and maybe tomorrow will be better. Maybe i'll get an A on the test, or my friends will call me, or someone will go out with me, or maybe my favorite band will make a new song, or I'll go to the beach with friends. It's all over now tho. But at least this song reminds me of those feelings.

@damesoumbi3 жыл бұрын
@@mookiedt tbf this album notably removed the original post-hardcore element of emo, but it's still certainly emo. yes it is math rock. it's also post-rock, math rock, indie rock, and even jazz fusion (that's a bit of a stretch but I digress). most albums can be defined by many genres. at the end of the day, it's the vocal delivery that makes it emo, as well as the scene it was part of. you can definitely trace this sound back to earlier emo; it still has that DIY punk flair to it and is a logical evolution from emo's starting place in the grand scheme of things. after all, this is the guy from cap'n jazz.

Discovered this album in an abusive relationship. She made me feel horrible about myself all the time. It was also my first relationship, so it went on and on with me thinking this was what a typical relationship was like. Finally ended it, and three years later met an amazing woman. This album again serenaded an evening for me, but this time it was beautiful and easy--not painful and difficult to comprehend; an evening with a new person that brought me nothing but peace and joy. This song is really about the passage of time, what changes, and what we learn.

This reminds me of the type of music my dad would play in the car when I was little. He doesn’t play it as much anymore, but sometimes he’ll put in a CD. When he does listen to it he changes. I see a shadow of what he once was when he was younger. Before I was around. I like him better when he’s like this, but most of the time he just acts like an old man. My mother is the same way too. It’s hard to believe she’s a doctor now, but my dad said she dyed her hair, wore black, listened to grunge, alternative, emo, and rock music. I find it hard to believe that they went to concerts and stood in the middle of the mosh pit. They’re both 40 years old now, and I love them for who they are. But sometimes, I like to see who they once were. Back when they were teenagers. Back when they were in the “prime” of their lives.
@blakemcnamara91053 жыл бұрын
I can relate. When I was little, my father was lean, clean shaven, and had black hair. My parents used to go to all of the clubs in the '90s when Oasis first came out; they're in their fifties now and my father has gray hair and a beard and does seem like an old man now.

@frontporchmint7 жыл бұрын
Damn, how do you tune the G string without snapping it?:(
@theophilephanoune91767 жыл бұрын
Well, you can tune the strings lower and then put a capo. But I still prefer doing it without a capo because the sound is clearer. So usually I tune to Db Ab Db Ab C Eb (less dangerous)
@theophilephanoune91767 жыл бұрын
Kevin Mason Oh, and I forgot an important point. You actually play the main riff with just your DAD strings so if you don't want to play the "eerie ambient" that starts around 2:00, a drop D tuning is sufficient. Even the little melodic motives can be played nicely in standard.
