I was 13ish in 1999 and had a lot of their stuff in my room. The blow up chair and alien stuff give me so much nostalgia! I think it's cute but I also have my expectations of AG quality and know I wouldn't be happy with the price.

Thanks for giving a nice overview of the new computer set! It's really interesting - I bought the 90s computer set from the AGOT era, because I always coveted it as a child, and I was surprised that the desk for that set is really cheap, terrible plastic; it does the job, but it's super lightweight. The chair, however, is quite nice and heavy. It's fun to contrast that to your experience with a decent desk and a flimsy chair for the new set. I really love the floppies that come with this set; I can't say I miss floppies, since we always bought cheap ones and they would end up getting corrupted every five or six months and I'd lose everything (an experience I haven't had yet with a flash drive), but the vibes of them were immaculate and are super nostalgic.

Sorry you're sick. I'm a few years older than you, so the set is really nostalgic for me, too. I had glow in the dark stars on my ceiling, too, and aliens were a huge thing. I'm between Courtney's age and the Hoffman twins, so both sets are super nostalgic for me, but I'm closer in age to the Hoffman twins. It's a shame that the quality has gone down so much. I agree that it has, and it's disappointing, especially because AG still charges such high prices for most things. I do think a lot about the computer set is spot on, the floppies and cds, and the portable phone are exactly late 90's/early 2000's. And the dial up sound is classic. I was just a little too old for the ag website, but I did spend a ton of time on the computer around that time. I do wish AG still put things out with the same quality that they used to, and that their attention to detail was more consistent, as opposed to for a few sporadic things. Thanks for doing the review.

Still deciding if I want this set. Right now I am using the World by Us table for the twins in their bedroom and it’s really cute and has 2 chairs

The computer itself is really cool, I also like the alien mug 👽 I would love to own this set even though it’s a little cheaper then us collectors would prefer 😅

Those dial-up modem sounds! SO nostalgic and fun. I love the concept of the computer in this set, but I'm with you. I so wish the materials were better and that modern AG still cared about making true miniature replicas. It's so annoying to KNOW you're dishing out more money than an item is worth, all just for a name brand 😑 If my daughter ever wants 18-inch doll playsets, we'll be leaning into Our Generation, for sure. ... but I might have to get Nicki & Isabel's computer anyway, for that modem lullaby, hahahahah 😂

Such a shame that american girl's quality has decreased so much. The desk looks like something from IKEA, but I could buy a full sized IKEA desk for about the same price! 😂 I remember as a kid how impressed I was with American Girl's quality and the materials they used. Items were substantial and were miniatures of real things. I did love the dial up sounds from the computer though... I'm pretty sure my brain still makes those noises when I'm trying to calculate my doll budget 😉😂 I hope you feel better soon!!!

I honestly had a feeling this set would feel cheap:( I wasn't old enough to have the old AG computer(the one that looks like this)but I could tell by pictures the quality of that one was nice and this one is cheap. AG is so disappointing now and cheap...

Bummer that it still felt like you overpaid for this set. Glad that there are enough nostalgic elements within the set to almost make it worth it. I don't know what the alien obsession was either, but I do know that in 1989 I did my senior paper on alien abductions. :) I would paint the room the same color as the phone since you love that phone so much. :) Thanks for sharing all of the details! Love the sound of the dial-up internet connection. :) But I'm so glad we don't have to do that anymore. :)

So Mattel to pump out poor quality items at high price tags. Shame on Mattel!!!
