In September of 2022, I traveled to one of the most misunderstood countries in the world, Iraq. You’ve probably heard a lot about Iraq and its people on the news, and you’ve probably developed certain opinions of them based off what you’ve heard. But what if what you’ve heard isn’t actually the case?
For nearly two weeks, my buddy Tasos and I teamed up with our friends at Bil Weekend for an unforgettable trip through Iraq that took us everywhere from Baghdad, to the ruins of ancient Babylon, to the street markets of Mosul, to the culture-rich marshlands in southern Iraq.

📱 TIKTOK: / davidsbeenhere
🐦 TWITTER: / davidsbeenhere
But what was it like on the ground? Was it dangerous? Was there violence in the streets? Did the people hate me or want to hurt me because I’m American? The answer to all of those questions is a resounding “NO.”
In fact, it was quite the opposite. Everywhere I went, people were warm, friendly, and kind-hearted. They embraced me and Tasos from day one, enthusiastically wringing our hands, hugging us, and even hand-feeding us lots (and lots) of yummy Iraqi food!
By the end of my trip, I was blown away by how wrong most people’s perceptions of Iraq are. This is not the awful, violent, scary place that some people want you to think it is. It may have its challenges, but Iraq is a gorgeous country, filled with some of the sweetest, kindest people I’ve ever met.
Don’t believe me? That’s okay. Let me show you…
Where have you been?

This is the first video of yours I've seen out of several that I've watched that made me emotionally sad to watch. Iraqi people are so kind and hospitable and giving you all free stuff and welcoming with open arms and yet look at what America, our tax dollars did to their country. They NEVER deserved their country, culture, and people to be assaulted and bombed for years by our policies which have destroyed generations. Iraq was the bedrock of civilization and one of the richest nations on Earth and thanks war criminals Bush and Blair its been ruined. Will take easily 50 to 100 years to revive back to stability. So sad. Thank you David for showing the world the true face of Arabs and the Muslim world that the mainstream media would never have the balls to. God Bless you, Shukran 🙏🏻

You realize the US didn't ruin Iraq out of nowhere. They had their own issues first and then the US ams many other nations including Arab nations had to go in an get rid of a dictatorship and terrorism. Iraq was a beautiful country. And the people along with the USA are working to rebuild

@@splats6164man the Arab people countries and Islamic african Arabic all of them are not good and probably we are racict and they want to destroy them countries and then leave to Germany or Sweden to be a foreigner immigrant👍🏽👍🏾 believe me we are not be able to building a powerful countries like babylon or ashur. In the 21 century I don't know why we changed like that maybe because of Internet the people believing in they are can't be like the other people on earth like USA or like japan. We are really tired people

WOW David: great start to the Iraq series. I am going to love this. From what I see now there is nothing to be afraid of by visiting Iraq. The people are genuinely authentic: friendly, warm and inviting. The food and all those treats (they really love their sugar in the Middle East) are very appealing. The raisin (I wonder if it was the black raisin) and pomegranate juices are two of the healthiest drinks you can have. Boy, they just couldn't help feeding you. Now we see where you got all the rings. Nice. You know how much I love history and culture too, and because of the teaser you put on I am very interested to see what's next. Great start. You never disappoint. Keep up the good work 🙏🕊️🇹🇹🇨🇦

Thank you, Sir, for showing Baghdad. I wish I could be there to be your guide. The next time, I highly recommend you get a guide to show you around. Iraq's history and culture (and language) are very deep and complex, but largely unknown to travelers. And, oh, BTW that mosque at 19:40 was the first project I worked on after Architecture school, when Saddam wanted to build the world's largest mosque, but construction stopped in 2003 (when the war started) and has been abandoned since.

Harry Putter: maybe you don't understand the title of this episode. Just remember that George Bush invaded Iraq. So maybe some people might be afraid to travel there because of retaliation. David is just showing people that you shouldn't be afraid to travel to Iraq. The people are very nice and friendly and welcoming.🇹🇹🇨🇦
