American Legend Stevie Wonder Conferred with Citizenship of Ghana | Firstpost Africa
Legendary American singer Stevie Wonder gets a much-awaited birthday gift. The Grammy winner has been granted citizenship of the West African nation of Ghana on his 74th birthday by Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo. He handed over a certificate to Wonder at the Presidential Palace in Accra. Wonder's love for the West African nation has never been a secret. He has openly expressed his desire to move to Ghana plenty of times, as he believes, his ancestral lineage could be traced there. Ghana has long prided itself as a bastion of Pan-Africanism. Its founding Leader Kwame Nkrumah called the West African state a "Black Mecca". Ghana was the first nation in the continent to give African descendants the right to stay. More than 300 Africans have been granted citizenship in Ghana since the country launched its "Year of Return" initiative in 2019.

@@Obalufon not true...he had travel to Africa during his early music life for vacation...out of all African countries he had visited, he loved Ghana and he got to understand why he love it, when they did the African geographical DNA for him, he was 43% Ghanaian...he talked about all this in both an interview with Opera Winfrey and the hall of fame interview...so he is actually a Ghanaian and want to stay in the country till he die...I'm his fan so I follow him so much, although I wish he would have come to india instead but I love Ghana too

@@Obalufon but they never came to Nigeria to deny their American citizenship and take up Nigerian citizenship, from all the videos, he swore that he had denied American citizenship and swore that he is a Ghanaian...is not about finding out, is about him making an effort to become a citizen of Ghana by legal means...those MJ families love being Americans...but Steve Wonder is now legally a Ghanaian without American citizenship
