the average tip in germany is just "keep the change" and it's not even about the tip, it's about not having the waiter waste their time counting back change.

"In Europe you have to pay extra for every bag of plastic"... well of course you have! This way you really think if you wanna buy new bags every time or keep reusing older bags, or get a fabric bag, or whatever. If plastic bags were free, nobody would think to not use them. But hey, environment is the last thing the US cares about!

The thing with Europe is each country is slightly different in culture. Don’t base opinion on experience in just Spain or Prague, France… In Uk we wouldn’t accept a beer with that much froth on, pubs generally have a good choice of beers. Also table service is mostly good. Polite staff etc. But we’re not used to over attentive service and I find it annoying to be asked several times if food is ok etc. We still tip if food was excellent or the waiting staff were friendly and efficient. I personally think staff should be paid at least minimum wage and not have to rely on tips. If they’re good at their job they get a reasonable wage & tips Edit- I have lived and holidayed in USA so know how it works.

The actual reason they don't usually ask you how you want your burger cooked in Europe and the UK is because most burgers here have fillers like eggs, bread etc. in them and the laws say that you have to thoroughly cook beef products unless they're 100% beef, so you'll get a medium cook 99% of the time *edit* the paper straws is why people the UK bought metal straws that some people carry with them

@@MrMajsterixx that just means most restaurants in the Czech republic uses 💯 beef and no filler for their burgers, other European countries inside and outside the EU mostly use fillers unless it states clearly that it doesn't, it's a EU rule, I know this because I have worked for both kinds of restaurants in the UK both when in and outside the EU

Th Story of Beer... Humans originally existed as members of small bands of nomadic hunter/gatherers. They lived on deer in the mountains during the summer and would go to the coast and live on fish and lobster in the winter. The two most important events in all of history were the invention of beer and the invention of the wheel. Beer required grain and that was the beginning of agriculture. Neither the glass bottle nor aluminum can was invented yet, so while our early humans were sitting around waiting for them to be invented, they just stayed close to the brewery. That's how villages were formed. The wheel was invented to get man to the beer. These two were the foundation of modern civilization and together were the catalyst for the splitting of humanity into two distinct subgroups: 1. Liberals. 2. Conservatives. Some men spent their days tracking and killing animals to BBQ at night while they were drinking beer. This was the beginning of what is known as the Conservative movement. Other men who were less skilled at hunting learned to live off the conservatives by showing up for the nightly BBQ's and doing the sewing, fetching, and hair dressing. This was the beginning of the Liberal movement. Some of these liberal men evolved into women (i.e., Bruce Jenner). Others became known as girlie-men. Some noteworthy Liberal achievements include the domestication of cats, the invention of group therapy, group hugs, and the concept of democratic voting to decide how to divide the meat and beer that Conservatives provided.

I was just looking this up the other day. Calculating the estimated yearly total, finding what my purchase power is in relation to my annual income, and lo and behold Massachusetts is top of the nation with average annual salary of 86K a year. Connecticut is 76. That means there are so many rich people living in those two states the annual income across the state is that high. I make the “average” but make three times as much as some people.

Actually in Spain and Austria I never faced bad service (except in a supermarket or store maybe, but not in a bar or restaurant). Three bone I pick with the USA here is that it is almost mandatory to pay a tip (additional to tax). For me this is a way how restaurant owners can pay hunger wages arguing that the rest is compensated with tipps. If you are basically guaranteed to get a tip it is less likely that you put extra effort into what you do. Even though for the most part service in Canada and that USA has been between decent and great, I do not think paying tips should be default, but the standard if you actually do get a good service and good quality food. Pay your employees a decent wage and they will work well. Allow them to get Tips for good service will only motivate them more. In Spain tipping is common, 10-20% depending on your experience. Now, if you go to places where tipping isn't usual, expect service to not be the best. Now,i am from Austria and I love in Spain, I can't really say that service is bad in Spain, but probably because I do avoid all touristic places like the plague 😂 though, even there I rarely get bad service. Must be something about me that "forces" people to treat me well 😂 Now, about coffee, it depends, you get espresso, short coffees, coffees in many sizes. But usually, coffee with milk can be up to 450ml, but black coffee... More than a double espresso isn't normal, sorry. Also, in the USA you these huge coffees come from filter coffee, which I guess is a lot of water and little coffee to start with.

Well you go to a restaurant to eat what the chef have put the effort in to make the tastiest dish for you. So it’s a bit rude to alternate the food, if you’re not on a fast food kind of place then it’s ok to customize. And a good restaurant never have to many options of meals, it’s a way to have it fresh and non wasteful. Low quality restaurants always have to many choices, is my experience anyway.

To be fair, the difference is that unlike the EU, we are 50 separate States, with our own micro 3 party Governments. I lived in Germany from 1989-1993, (Summer) Each Country was autonomous, They each had separate currency, Passports needed to be stamped or have a Visa. Some had taxes included, some did not. I have yet to return post EU, aside from about 3 hours in Ireland returning from Afghanistan in 2007. That said, I find culture shock to be such an interesting thing. I understand that it will be different, there will be language issues, etiquette differences, open and close variations, and more. Yet, research a few things before you go, it's easy these days. Be well.

The United States is a great country but it definitely needs to improve on 3 aspects: 1. universal public health 2. paid vacations for employees 3. 1 year paid maternity leave for new mothers (4. circulation of fewer weapons) This is the minimum that is needed to live a decent and peaceful life. #1: I don't think your wife will like to hear you refer to her as 'Spaniard'. Spaniard is usually a bad way to refer to the people. Better is to refer to her as Spanish. #2: You generalizing: while in the Czech Republic or Spain the choices may be less extensive, but in other countries it may be as exensive as in the USA. #3: The USA is not the only 'melting pot' in the world. There are other countries that can be described as such all over the world. The UK or the Netherlands, for example. #4: The reason why the narrator of the video comes from a place where there is (or was) not much choice is not because it's Europe. It's because Checoslovakia (2 separate countries now) was part of the Warsaw Pact, where communism ruled over 5 decades. #5: Taking Spain as a reference, you MIGHT actually be insulting people in other countries. Not every country has grumpy people, and even Spain has quite polite people. #6: The European take on plastic is quite progressive in comparison to the USA indeed. However, a 'doggy bag' is not that common in Europe though. #7: Portion sizes in Europe are indeed more reasonable then in the USA (or Mexico, for that matter). #8: Cars in Europe are indeed smaller than typical American cars. Maybe that's because Europe has a lot of small and narrow streets (especially in inner cities) in comparison to the USA.

Europeans have no idea what 'customer service' means...lol. I lived in West Germany for nearly 7 years. Once I ordered a Coca Cola and it came to me room temperature. I asked for some ice. No, No Ice For You!

I've been to the US and I had the worst customer service there. The waiter kept bothering us, checking if we want something more, if the food was good, if we want refills, if we need something else, etc etc.... I want to enjoy my food with my friends, I don't wanna see the waiter except when I make the order and when I pay. That's it. As I said, worst customer service ever. And oh boy, don't let me tell you what happens if you don't tip them, oh boy....

xd Man, will you ever say anything good about Spain? There has to be a reason beyond the price of living while you have been living here for so long lol. I know our government is fcked, no matter which party you vote but bruh, I am sure you are missunderstanding our way of being when you said you would never tip anyone from the service in a Spanish bar/ restaurant (they do not accept tips most of the times, I know that but you were speaking fifuratively and so am I) , I bet the food was nice, in most places it is unless tourist trap places. There is racism, that is for sure, but you do not look intimidating or dangerous when wearing glasses, I am sure most people treat you nicely.
