You didn't ask the obvious question: "Have you ever been to the UK ?" If not then the opinions are formed from news reports and news only shows the exceptions in society, not the boring norm. It's also true of the UK with America, unless you go to America (preferably several times) then it's hard to have a true, self realised opinion of what it's like (it isn't how it's represented on TV in the UK).

I'll keep our weather in England thanks. Rarely too hot in summer and rarely too cold in winter. No tornadoes, no hurricanes, hardly any droughts, forest fires, earthquakes, ice storms etc etc. Its mostly mild and manageable and you rarely hear of homes being destroyed by the weather, unlike in the USA where it happens often.

The Office thing is obvious. Americans prefer their remake and Brits prefer the original. This is clearly because the whole premise of the show is about subtle nuances in our culture and the comedy comes from relating to that. US culture is different from the UK's. That's why they remade it.

Only in America could a game called football be a game where you run with the ball in your hands! Baseball is an English game invented hundreds of years ago by Brits for young girls to learn hand eye co-ordination called rounders, look it up if you don't believe me! The Republic does not claim Northern Ireland and has not done for some time.

I'm British and I like America, it's citizens, it's general values and it's role within the world / society. Long live the special bond our countries share. It is a shame that America is no longer part of the UK but all colonies all over the world eventually become independent over time - it is just a shame that a civil war occurred about it all this years ago. Ignore any negativity from other Brits on here - most (like 99%) of UK people DO like America and on here you will only find the Loud minority most of the time. Rest assured we all have our own minds. I actually think the UK has a lot to learn from the USA in recent times as the UK has allowed itself to become eroded by soft laws and by allowing all the idiots in from the rest of Europe and the east in such as extremists. In the USA such things would not proliferate. By the way USA - FYI most BRITISH NATIVES do not want to be part of Europe - it's purely a financial / trade thing why we remain. America will always be a better place to live. Britain is without a doubt one of the most depressing countries to live in the world or at least in Europe. The lifestyle is boring and repetitive and wherever you go or you'll ever see is the same row of terraced houses in every street and every neighborhood filled with chavs and slobs. Don't get me wrong, i think Britain is a good country culturally, economically and in terms of military but it's just not a pleasant place in a lot of areas. Another thing that annoys me is how nearly every boy has an obsession with football (soccer) but what's funny is that Britain can't play football worth a shit seeing how we've been beat in nearly every world cup (except for one in 1966) by countries that don't even play football. America has much more vast land and places to explore ranging from deserts, forests and cities but in Britain all you get is towns full of old miserable buildings and not to mention the 'British Countryside' is honestly the most boring empty place on earth. I'm not saying Britain is a terrible country but it has many flaws.

'If it ain't broke don't fix it' That is a general attitude toward monarchy in the UK, and there are plenty of people who will completely disagree with me - their comments to follow I'm sure. It isn't a system of government though - our government is formed of the party leaders of the political party with the greatest majority in Parliament. MPs are elected on a constituency (roughly, county or county sub-divisions) basis, and the Monarch just sits at the top. Effectively, she is a rubber stamp. That is it. Should she ever decide not to be that rubber stamp, then she won't exist anymore. It is that simple. But picture this - if there were to be an overall control on legislation that is a Monarch, and the law is drafted and put forward by elected representatives...does it really make no sense to have a sensible diplomat, who was born into the role of diplomat, with no political allegiances and a very strong sense of loyalty to 'her subjects', than to have a further elected rubber stamp? If the day came where the UK is heading into dangerous political territory, I for one would be proud to see the Queen stepping up. Alas, though, it will never happen.

When people ask Americans what they think of other cultures a high percentage of the people respond with positive remarks, but when asking other countries, Germans, British, Dutch, French about Americans - the answers were mainly negative. This is interesting because I've been to the USA many times and always found most of them to be very friendly and helpful people. If you go on KZfaq you get a lot of Americans being rude and abusive about Britain which really paints the USA in a bad light but they are not like that when you travel there.

Just to clarify (not argue) there wasn't actually a clear winner in the conflict between Britain and the USA. The hostilities ended with a truce and not with a winner and a loser. The truce was pretty much our countries deciding to be friends. Because, after all, that's what we should be.

The United States did so much for the war effort, half the troops on D-Day were American, the USSR and the UK got massive resources from the states, the US was fighting two fronts, they helped the British on the western front, and pretty much fought alone against Japan, I give huge credit to them for fighting to world wars in Europe when it wasn't their fight, oh yeah and 500,000 troops in western Europe and tonnes of nuclear weapons for the cold war afterwards. we owe them a great debt

I think both countries are great in their own way. (I am British). Both countries fight over their differences but that is all you look at. If you look at it from another prospective then you will realise we are similar in more ways than you know. One more thing when the man said "you are no greater than i and i am no greater than you" I think everyone in the world could take this sentence and follow it.

Have you ever been to America? Every time I was in class talking about the Revolution, it was always said that the French made an amazing difference in the war, and It's said on almost every show/movie talking about the Revolution.

So essentially, you spoke about TV and Royalty and nothing more... shame, as it diminishes England.

Because the royal family owns some land, it means they get a taxation on it, and a few loopholes later basically they put back way more than they get from the system. Also, a castle is much more interesting if it's owned by a real monarch - that's why people go to the UK for castles etc, not France. Also, they act as diplomats who are not affiliated with a single political ideal, so they're excellent for diplomatic matters.

We in UK know MUCH more about America and Americans than Americans know about us! Even our education system is on a more international level, with history, geography, politics and language putting UK out in front in many ways.
