Spoken like a true conservative! Black people live in small towns too. When Jason sings “We take care of our own” That means all our citizens! We don’t care about color.

Born and raised in rural NC on a farm just like all my distant neighbors lol, we didn’t see color we were all poor and working our butts off everyday TOGETHER . We knew who the dirtbags were and stayed away from them. Didn’t give a piss then and still don’t if you are a dirtbag I stay away from you . I’m a retired Police officer and racism wasn’t a thing as far as we were concerned, again if you were a dirtbag we locked you up period.👍🏻🇺🇸

I'm so glad you reviewed this song! First, Jason was the artist on stage when the mass shooting occurred in Las Vegas so he is no stranger to hate and violence in our great country. Second, I am a 57 year old Caucasian woman from a small town in south east Texas. My neighbors are Black, Hispanic, Puerto Rican, Asian, Middle Eastern and Caucasian. We all have one another's phone numbers and know one another's names. We watch over one another's property and children and help whenever needed with home or yard projects (and at times with cars and trucks lol). If one of us is down we feed one another, offer open arms and lift one another up. You can bet that if ANYONE came to our neighborhood or town with the notion of destroying, stealing or hurting our people we will be there!... in force. We are ALL wonderfully created by (in my personal belief) by God and we are all His children... we need to start seeing and treating one another as such. I LOVE that we ALL have different points of views and experiences AND that we are all so very very similar in that we all want love, peace, security and companionship. I pray that we all listen more to one another and far less to the politicians and media ! Evil comes in all colors, sizes, ages and gender...but so does GOOD! God bless you two!

Here is small town PA, a group of blm were marching through. They "Tried it in a small town", were put on notice to leave, and next... gunshots. One of the protesters was shot (not life threatening). Again our people took care of their own family, property, which was a means of their living!

@@DarlaAnne Obviously city folk in Portland don't have the same moral values as country folk when it comes to antifa communists terrorizing their city night after night. They literally have a bail fund for communits to immediately be released from prison and their corrupt DA's let them go with a slap on the wrist. Perhaps you missed the summer of 2020 riots that happened literally nightly where they would attack innocent people and small businesses as well as federal buildings and police stations. That would 100% never be tolerated in the small Georgia city that I live in. Maybe schools shouldn't be gun free zones where predators know that they will be able to pray on weak children and not have armed teachers to worry about. I don't understand how that has anything to do with the riots in cities but I believe we should train and arm our teachers so that they could stop mass shooters before they have a chance to take any lives. What clips in the video were foreign? I believe you're mistaken. I clearly remember the riots happening in a lot of major cities where police cars were overturned and set on fire, business had their windows broken out, fireworks and Molotov cocktails were thrown at police.

I'm a 70 year old retired RN who was raised in rural Indiana on a farm. I held one of my best friends several times when he was having flashbacks from Vietnam. We did take care of our own. I hear this song and it reminds me of a personal experience I had when I was 14. I wanted so badly to go to Philadelphia, I wanted to see where the constitution was written I wanted to walk on the streets and see the history. That summer my Step Father made that happen. I am from a small town in western North Carolina; I had never seen depravity the way I would in the 20 minutes that I spent in Philadelphia. I was walking down a beautiful sidewalk with white curbs with my family when a man grabbed me and pushed me against a brick wall. He had his hands all over me and his breath stank as he was in my face . I was screaming, my mother was screaming and the people who lived in this place just walked past like nothing was happening. My Step father pulled the man off of me and hit him and we left that place and I will never go back. Honestly had something like that happened where I am from I promise you people would not walk past and ignore what was happening. That is what this song is about.

I Know many veterans who do not feel that pseudopatriotic attachment to a flag. They see their service as protecting the right to speak up against such shallow outrage over material. They fought to defend the right of ALL to speak. As the Supreme Court found...burning the flag may offend but it is still a right for each citizen to express their feelings by lighting it.

Courthouse is within 30 min of Aldeans house. Multiple videos filmed there. The claim of the use of the courthouse as being intentional undertone is absolutely a reach. Unfortunately if someone digs enough, most courthouses/ courthouse greens/ town squares over 100 years old (or towns in general) do have regrettable points in their history in one way or another - just a fact of our history. This message is simply about activities that would not be tolerated in a small town because people look out for their own. As someone from a small, rural (mostly black) town - I can promise you my community would say FAFO if someone tried that ish here.

No way! But... we are fighting every day to be better. Like you said, It's all about the people. Nothing but love! I saw an interview with Jason. He shot at that location because... I thing it is a courthouse or some other government building. He didn't know about the lynching. There was another video I saw where antifa were trying to protest (and probably cause trouble) in a small town. The residents weren't having any of it. The men banded together and kicked antifa out of their town. I laughed my @$$ off. It was AWESOME. I think we need more of that.

They were my brothers and sisters... regardless of race. And I always knew we had each others back. That's called family; that's called community; that's called unity. That's what this song is about. As a POC from a small town this song brings tears of pride to my eyes. As far as that courthouse, being the site of lynching in 1927? Yes, unfortunately true. Also true is it just very nearby where Jason Aldean lives and the courthouse has a very architecturally, historic façade. It was also the backdrop of a Christmas movie several years ago if anybody’s interested.🤷🏻🤦🏻‍♂️

We help each other and support each other. We don't care about color, creed, sexual orientation,or your religion. If you need help we will help. The closest police station to me is an hour away, so yes we depend on each other to keep our community to safe. And if you come here and act a fool you will be treated as such. I enjoyed the two of you having an honest, thoughtful discussion and whatever you might have done in the past you both seem like good, decent people now. You're right, it's not racist song. It's about we're all Americans and the good people should take up for one another against people being destructive , evil A-holes. It's not racist. It's about good vs evil.

If you want to know what the controversy is about, here it is. The song isn't racist. The video could be taken as giving a wink to the KKK because out of all the trillions of places they could have filmed it, they chose to film it at a Courthouse in Tennessee that is famous for KKK lynching.

The issue is low agency folk clinging to these corporate ideologies. When a leftist corporation/committee says "whiteness" they are talking about capitalism, not race. The terms they use come from the Communist Manifesto and are inspired by socialism. The goal isn't lbgtq or any of that, it is merely mutiple ways to corrupt the view of normality. As normality is elasticized to include the radical, society ceases and is overtaken by more corrupted entities.

I have too. Specifically looking for American blacks reactions as a sanity check. Been very heartening that they sit back and say "What am I missing? This isn't racist." I've listened to it so many times and watched the video many times. The burning of the flag is so disgusting but even more that people are accusing Jason of supporting racism with this song is ridiculous! An American Flag should always be shown respect and let us not even talk about athletes kneeling during or refusing to sing the National Anthem! So disrespectful! Yes, we have freedom of speech in America but this is downright disrespectful and should be a CRIME! Keep up the good work y'all!

What many people don't get about this song is the true message. He is saying, don't try to riot and destroy homes and businesses in a small town because we won't call the police to stop you. We will do it ourselves. Remember, "A Country Boy Can Survive". Not long ago, i saw a video of a guy suggesting that people should take thier "protests"and riots to rural areas because there weren't many cops to stop them. They also need to understand that the same cops that aren't there to stop them are also not there to stop us from stopping them.

There was a clip from the capital riots. It's where the police and the crowd are kindof fighting over a fencing, the police shoved the fence into the crowd, oushing them back. It's after the guy punches the one robbing the store. There's also clips from ANTIFA, the good ol boys in Oregan, and a fight between sides over a confederate monument at Stone Mountain, which is in Jason's home state. The courthouse is a known place to film at because it's easy to get a permit. It's also just a few miles from Jason's home. No other reason than that. The production company said nobody researches a locations history to make sure it won't offend someone. If they did, they wouldn't have anywhere to film at.

I very much enjoy your choices of music you to hone in on. Somehow, when it comes to the real 'old school' tunes, you seem to have found the play list of music that rocked my Mid-Michigan world! I'm 73 so I'm talking about all things 50s and 60s! You slide across the genres from Roy Orbison to Sam Cooke, and Patsy Cline to Etta James and Roberta Flack! (IMO Her best album was Quiet Fire!) Being my daughters age, you also manage to do the same with music that trips her trigger too! She's 44 but dearly loves new stuff as well as her go-tos. She was all about Rap and she nearly got herself killed with the lifestyle that came with it, but as she's grown now so her interests have branched out. She brought the Aldean piece to may attention. For many reasons, this resonated with me too. It also brought back a memory from my time teaching alternative 7th-9th graders. We took them to career fair that focused on hands-on career paths. Included was a presentation of construction and farming equipment like bulldozers and tractors. That drew in high school kids from the surrounding farm communities as well. When our students saw these kids they immediately started to run their mouths and taunt the farmer boys. (Side note: My mom's family were farmers so I spent A LOT of time 'on the farm', growing up.) I pulled a few of my kids aside and I explained to them that these boys baled hay every day, all day during the summer! That meant picking up 80 lb bales and throwing up onto a huge wagon from morning 'til supper time. That was how they 'lifted weights'! I begged my boys not start something they couldn't finish! God is great - they listened! We got them back to school without them loosing any body parts;) Aldean's song brings back memories of my grandfather because it reminds me of his commitment to 'take care of his own.' Thank you for discussing this recording with intelligence and sensitivity!

Yes there was a lynching at this courthouse back in 1920. It's a horrible history. Jason didn't know about it, he didn't choose this site for his video based on racist ideologies and had he known he wouldn't have preformed here. Jason's message is against the senseless crime, hate, violence of all kinds. It shows in his video. He is also reminding us that we are all brothers and sisters, neighbors, friends and we should be there for each other in times of need. Jason is a Patriot and has never been afraid to speak about his beliefs. The controversy and slander about this song simply shows us who the hate is really coming from and who it is that wishes to keep us divided and it's not Jason.

For me, the difference between a small town and a city is that small town is its own community and does stand up for itself. In the cities, there are some of those same feelings but they stay inside the communities and those are segregated into multiple communities in those big cities. Jason lives near that courthouse now. The lynching happened around 100 years ago. No idea if Jason (or anyone else that used it) knew about that history.

I was in Charleston, South Carolina and I stood hand and hand with people of all colors praying , donating blood, supplies, making meals for our First Responders, Military men and women. We were a Nation standing together as one! This song for me is remembering that time and showing how far we have came from that. Really appreciate your prospective. Until your podcast, I had never seen this video or heard this song. I don't typically listen to much of the new country music. This song resonates so deeply with me. I came from a small town and raised my boys in them. My church and community were always there for us and truly helped me navigate being a single mother. You don't always realize how much the love and support of small town people will go until one of your own kids is staring down the barrel of a gun. My son was stuck in traffic one night when he saw a young lady running from a man who was shooting at her. She had apparently been shot more than once. My son got out of his car and stepped in between her and the man with the gun, encouraging the gunman to let her go. The man turned and ran. My son picked the lady up from the pavement, put his jacket around her, and held her until the 911 operator got them some help. He said people were filming it with their phones, but no one even bothered to get out of their car to take action. The young lady died later, but her parents thanked my son for giving their daughter some hope and dignity in that moment. Small town people are often raised with a deeper sense of community, so I don't feel this song was bad at all. Thank you for reviewing this! It really struck a chord!

The courthouse is a popular location for filming. It's near Aldean's home. HANNAH MONTANA was filmed there. It is beyond despicable and frankly ridiculous to say Aldean chose the location because he had pored over dusty history books in the library, learned someone was lynched there in 1927, and said yeah, I love lynching! Let's film there!!

Hello again, Black Pegasus. Nightwish Army Phoenix fan and subscriber here. This song speaks to me on so many levels. It is so sad that our inner cities have lost that sense of community that small towns have. Where I grew up, we knew all of our neighbors and would step up to help any of them who got in trouble. And that includes manning up to any assholes who try to terrorize any of our neighbors. I loved this song and its message. As a West Point graduate and a retired army officer, what more could you want for your community than neighbors who love you and have your back? I loved this reaction. Thank you for taking this controversial topic on.

It happened about 100 years ago. He didn't know that. That place was randomly picked to film the video there.
