When he says from Seoul to the SKY he means the three top universities, Seoul National University, Korea University and Yonsei University. The equivalent of the Ivy League. It's about pressure put on young people by parents and society.

South Korea has the highest teen suicide rate in the world. It was incredibly bold of BTS to make this statement about their unrealistic school system and its expectations. I've often wondered if their early tracks were a reason they were shunned by the industry. Thankfully it didn't matter, army grew them despite the industry 💜

I'm so glad you brought that up. Not too many people are aware of that fact. Unfortunately not much has changed. Education and to secure a good job is still most important, before dating and marriage. And that kind of pressure ieads to tragedy and heartbreak

Remember... this debut in S. Korea and they weren't having it... Imagine these hip-hop artists telling youth to follow their dream in S, Korea. As students they aren't allowed to dream for themselves... only study!

oh my gosh this was so great, I HAVE to start the albums so I can hear ALL of their earlier stuff. ESPECIALLY after learning that JK rapped more back then! I always LOVE when you guys break it down, kind of makes the song hit a little harder, that dance break gave me chills ♡

Korea wasn't ready for them, that's why they did better internationally until I Need You, BTS learned they had to tell their stories in a way Korea could accept and still keep their core values and style.

Bts were amazing since the very beginning thats why they were mistreated by others because they had so much talent and potential and they were intimidated by them but in the end they’re hard work paid off and they showed everyone how they made it to become successful 👏💜

You ask why did it take them so long to blow up? Globally, they WERE known. It's the AMERICAN music market that had a problem with them. (1) Envy at how they were crushing the music scene globally; sweeping up music awards like a Hoover. (2) Greed, or rather the resentment that the U.S. music market couldn't make a dime off of their success; they belonged to Korea, so they weren't going to promote something they weren't making money off of. And lastly, (3) good old-fashioned bigotry.🙂 These 7 talented guys shattered all the stereotypes of who Asians were supposed to be (fed by Hollywood depictions). They absolutely left people speechless when viewing their videos, like, Huh? Asians aren't supposed to MOVE like this. They aren't supposed to SING like this. They're not supposed to perform with SO much soul and passion, or have ANY rythm. They're not supposed to dominate the U.S. charts. Believe me, they've heard it ALL, but you won't find ONE video where it has embittered them. They never whine about the hard times. They just keep doing the energizer bunny thing with heart and hard work and love for everybody. Every last marvelous one of them. I'm an American by the way. 🤗

This song is so meaningful. They try to raise their voices against the korean extremely cruel education system which causes the highest suicide rate of young people between 8 and 24 years old. Even among teachers. Last july 18th another teacher took her own life too. It's so sad. 😢

This is BTS taking on a social issue that existed and, as far as I know, still exists in Korea where the youth are so pressured to perform academically that they cave under the pressure. Teen suicide rates in Korea are some of the highest in the world. It’s a call for change.

according to the new BTS book (biography) they talked about this song and this was one of those songs people didn´t vibe to back then. and it was a huge blow to BTS because they put so much effort into it. and they swore that if the new song and album they made was going to flop too, Suga would have stopped making music. But the next song they made Suga barely slept and was never saw daylight he lives in a very small studio the whole 2 months. but they made it, "I need you" was their biggest break through, they slayed every music charts in korea and they could not believe it and the album was a huge succes too. i think it is because I need you was more softer and had vocals too and the MV was so different from every kpop groups has ever done before. I think you should watch that and see what i mean. that was just the start and they have changed SO much in kpop now every group follow what BTS did. making vlogs and do other content. I also see changes in the MV´s however dancing will always be the main focus of a kpop title song but BTS´s last 3 titel song has has no dancing at all so they always mix it up.

Their early songs were full of rebellion against the govt, parents n school that’s why their success was limited. They also wore black all the time. There wasn’t a lot of group like them. But they had occult followers who were loyal.
