They began as a hip hop group which is the reason the rappers were selected first. Bang decided to switch to K-pop and added four vocalists, visual, dancers. Their early music is fire. You know how many rappers in the West do know about KRS-1 Eric B Rakim who are the OGs? I am not surprised RM was influenced by the OGs of rap. NAS is his dude. They are all doing excellent in the military. Making their country and BTS Army proud. There is a video of a 20 year old RM in the studio with Warren G producing. RM and Wale collab is fire: song called Change. Wake up a very West Coast group song.

I want to recommend another funky oldy from them "We On". I have not seen many people paying attention to it but it's very good! Another oldy "Ma City" has a live performance on Busan in 2022, and it's super funky. One of my favourites. 💜💜💜 Here is Ma City from Busan with really good subs. And whats crazy, is that song like this from BTS, will never be picked up and played by the main stream music industry. They only play those over the top poppy, english songs that were made to please the radio stations in US. Theyre the ones missing out tho.. sad.

10:44 there is no cocky competition "i outrapped you" i believe, there is always collaboration between three bts rappers, they let eachother listen to their solo stuff but when they are all on a track it is always "what makes song vetter" type of thinking, they never try to outshine eachother. One can like rm's vere better than suga'a or jhopes better than rms - it is only to tge taste of the listener, they don't have mentality "i will outrap him on a track" But don't be fulled, if there is gane amd the prize is foid, thus is where you will see severe competition among all 7 of them. Well lyrically and with word play rm kills it.. suga is raw, and his lyrics pull the heart strings but I think he can rap faster than rm, and jhope has this unique style he’s a dancer and most dancers can isolate a certain beat and dance on it.. I think he does that but he rapping. He finds these crazy pockets and raps in it.

That's what surprises many people including people in the industry. There is no competition between the boys when it comes to their music writing amd performances. They are true collaborators who put their heart and soul into what's best for the group. They respect each other's talent and contributions. It's what has allowed them to have the longevity that they have. No one is aspiring to be the standout of the group like you see in Western groups. You'll even notice it in their choreography. They all have their moment to shine and take center stage. So glad you appreciate their talent.🦋🕊🦋

For songs like this that are rap heavy the color coded lyrics help you focus on how good the song is. BUT I highly suggest watching a live version afterwards because they always go better live. Such a good song that shows cultural appreciation, they study and give homage to hip hop roots they dont try and appropriate the culture. I dont know that they ever compete with each other but they absolutely work to make each other sharper. They ran BTS like a year round music writing camp writing lyrics (the rappers mostly in the early years but they got the vocalists into it as well) even in waiting rooms, while in cars being driven places etc always showing each other songs and just helping each other. Its one of the reasons the 3 rappers who had all produced solo mixtapes (2 each for RM and Suga and 1 for RM) had pushed that all of them needed to do full albums to learn their own individual colors of music and develop them to be stronger for it when they return together next year. And its been wildly successfull all the solos are stunning work. Each totally different tool

I recommend born singer! It’s another love letter to music like this one is and of course an homage to j. Cole’s born sinner. If you can get a live version that’s even better. I'm 56 yo ARMY from the Midwest and you are so right that you never know how your art will affect someone half-way around the world. I have never done a deep dive into hip hop here in the US as that genre really came into mainstream as I was off starting a family and doing mom things, so my focus was inside and not outside, but BTS came into my life as my sons were starting to enter young adulthood and the pandemic was raging. Their songs really resonated with me and just knowing them as people has made me work hard to be the best version of myself and not look at my life as over because my kids were gone, and I was over 50. All their rap songs are worth a listen to. Personally I like to watch and listen then go to an explaination video by an english speaking korean as the translations do not give you the doubles triples slang cultural historical references etc. Korean has one word modifiers that give a scentence multiple different meanings. Korean was made for rap. Its almost impossible to get how genius some of their stuff is otherwise. Then I go to a live performance. May I suggest a different approach for BAEPSAE also known as Silver Spoon. You go explaination first then live performance. This catchy number with their most hilarious choreography is actually a scathing social comentary. For the explaination I watched DKDKTV In the audition competition for Big Hit Suga came second. I presume RM was first. Suga said he thought to himself he could take RM. Hiscrespect for RM grew who is very experimental and that definately influenced Suga And Hobi. RM said J Hope is very ambitious. RM identifies as an artist first music and lyrics without a defination. Suga always shows that no matter how he experiments his roots are deep and he is ' a rapper man'. J Hope is musically ambitious. Despite being the dance leader of BTS the first half of his fantastic record breaking solo debut concert( 100,000+)JACK IN THE BOX was all rap and no actual choreography. Using a live band with distinct rock vibe his performance of deeply personal music electrified the audience who didnt thin on the late night final quarter.

Aww. Glad you did this one. Definitely underrated. Lead power ranger color is Blue. RM is another level. They nothing but support each other. From what we've seen they all just bring what they have to the table and then they all discuss and decide what to use. I think they save whatever anyone does and end up using it in other songs if not in the one they are working on. I know RM and Yoongi are always writing. Even on the vacations they never stop. I think their minds just don't stop. Truly enjoying your reactions. Wonder what you think about what you thought about BTS when you started out. It was clear you didn't expect much. You should listen to Epik High. They are a Korean rap group that inspired some of the members of BTS. They just celebrated their 20th anniversary. Their lyrics are so powerful. They have so many albums and a lot of different styles. I like the song New Beautiful but because of the lyrics. I also love Screen Time where they basically wanted they could write a song about anything. Also find the story about Tablo and how he had to climb back to the top because people on the internet told lies about him and turned public opinion against him. Scary how it happened to him.

I love real rapper’s reactions to this song so much….so many young folks don’t even know the rap greats yet come for BTS and their rap. You get it 💜

Yeah , it’s about the rappers journey cuz the music of BTS is made by them. So in jhope case was through dance , the name he said first are pioneers on styles like popping , locking , etc. So even tho he learned to rap when he joined BTS line up ( as a trainee , with the help of RM and suga ) , he already had the back group of hip hop ( since street dance it part of it just like rap ). So then he talks about the rappers he listened to dance and then the rap as it self. Talking about that he will release a documentary about his journey in dancing , about different styles with dancers specialize in that in different countries, it will come out at the end of March, there is a trailer of it already it’s called “hope on the streets” , since you also are a hip hop fan I highly recommend it , jhope takes dancing really seriously specially to the pioneers as you see in this song.
