Knife crime is a bigger problem in the US, In one year there was more stabbings in NYC alone than the whole UK had in the previous 3 years combined, Here in the UK we make a bigger deal about it in the news(and rightly so) where in the US it gets over shadowed by gun crime. Just some perspective for you

In 2020 the level of knife homicides in the UK and US was virtually identical. But there were also 24 000 gun homicides in the US. In the UK there were 35.

At the end of season 2, Jeremy had got married to enable his American now ex-girlfriend to stay in the UK as his 'wife'. Then he confessed he'd seen someone else and the last we saw of her was her going out to a Metallica concert and telling Jez that he should sleep on the sofa as she'd taken some E's and was feeling horny and would need the bed as she'd be bringing some guy back with her. Then an unspecified number of weeks or months has passed and, in that time, Jez has met Michelle...but now his ex Big Suze has turned up!

I was gonna say are you sure? I just watched it all the way through and it's not there. But now ep2 is playing and it's while he's pissing all over the toilet seat in the first scene, thinking "Yeah, take that, Big Suze. Your toilet-seat regime is over".

Do you not remember what happens at the end of season 2? Nancy finds out about the affair, and then at the time of airing the show, it was probably a year before this episode came out. Things are supposed to have just moved on in life so he's in a new relationship

Of course he doesn’t remember. I enjoy his reactions, but sometimes he always pauses at the wrong moments and goes on a 10 minute dialogue about something completely random. So im not surprised he doesnt remember 😂

The plot line wasn't "chucked out the window" the marriage was a sham marriage to keep Nancy in the country, Jeremy cheated on her in the episode and she found out. Nancy is still around and will be in future episodes but as for the fake marriage it served its purpose.

Michelle was supposed to be Toni and Big Suze was supposed to be Nancy. I remember them talking about it in either the DVD extras or a later documentary. Nancy would return from some religious thing with an ex-Monk, while Jez had been dating Toni pretty much since Nancy ditched him at the end of series 2.

Fun fact: Nancy and Toni were originally meant to be in this series but the actresses weren't available to film it, and Toni never featured again. The original plot featured Nancy coming back dating a monk, and Big Suze was only meant to be an unseen character. The original series finale ended up with Toni getting engaged to Alan Johnson but of course that never happened. Would've been interesting to see how the series panned out if Nancy and Toni were in it

Not a drinking whilst shopping anecdote but it reminded me that a bloke down the pub I drank in a few years back used to order take away at the end of the night and get a free lift home with his Curry in the delivery drivers car. He just asked them for a delivery got delivered home with his food😅

Knife crime still happens more in the US than in the UK, it's just that we don't have a gun problem in the UK so the knife problem is more important for us to solve.

***FOR CONTEXT OF EPISODE 2*** - not sure if you will see this but for info re next episode- "sectioning" or to be 'sectioned' is the UK medical colloquial term for getting somebody admitted to a mental health institution in their/the publics best interest (US equivalent is to be committed). The term is derived from the relevant 'sections' of the Mental Health Act. (Just realised you may have already seen/recorded episode 2 already).

We can own knives and swords they just have specific standards and things to be within the law. I own a samari sword, a machete and a lot of knives but i dont take them out with me unless im going camping (not the samari sword). We dont really have a knife problem in the UK, american media makes ot out to be something big as we dont have any gun crime really..... the odd couple. You shouldnt go shopping hungry but ill eat my food as im walking around if really hungry as im gonna pay for it. Oh yeah and big suze is married to someone in the british royal family too

Season one, although they don't make many references to it, essentially starts with Jez having broken up with Big Suze and coming to live with Mark. At the end of season two Jez and Nancy are married, but as he cheated on her with Toni, they break up and Nancy moves back to the US. Jez always at least one person on the go!

Knife crime is an issue in the major cities, a non issue outside of them. USA has a bigger knife problem then the UK. More knife crime per 100k population than the Uk.

Anyone else seen that a fifth American remake is in the works? That cast. The humour doesn't translate so I think it will absolutely tank. It's a very British show at its core and you can't really replicate it. You need major cultural changes within the show to make it work and, even then, it's rare that it does ... The Office ... Maybe Shameless? I can't think of many remakes across the pond that have worked out well.
