Keeper saved with his head otherwise if he'd have controlled with his hands, it'd be considered a 'pass-back' resulting in an indirect free kick practically on the goal line

A goal keeper can save own goals with his hand as at that point it’s not a pass intended to waste time or whatever. If it’s going in, he can save it. I’m sure I’ve seen that before.

@@mattf9406 if it's a deliberate pass to the goalkeeper from a team mate the keeper can't handle it at all. The keeper can only handle it if the touch from his team mate wasn't deliberate, for example if the ball just hits him and goes towards the goal.

@@Jrf-1884 The keeper is allowed to parry any ball that threatens the goal line. This save was obviously in the earlier days of the no back pass rule when keepers were not allowed leeway but today a keeper can save an astray back pass. Of course it does create a grey area but it's been years now that goalies have been allowed to protect their goal from incompetent team mates, what a keeper still can't do is handle the ball to stop an onrushing player getting on the end of a bad back pass, that would result in an indirect free kick and typically a card.

8:15 Sometimes, in the final seconds of the game, if a team gets a corner their goalkeeper will come up so they have an extra man in the box. It's like an all-or-nothing play when they really need a goal.

They're difficult to defend too (corners where their keeper comes up). I dunno, it's his different colour kit, his big gloves, the gangliness of a big guy who doesn't play outfield knocking clumsily around the box. It'd be like boxing a guy for 11 rounds then for the last round there's a clown in the ring next to you doing tricks 🤡 it just puts you off out of the corner of your eye it's a massive distraction lmao 😂

Couple of things to note here - regarding no 3 when Higuita did that scorpion kick the flag was already up for offside so he was just showing off for the sake of it - there was no risk involved. That no 1 wasn't even Buffon's greatest save, he was an absolute legend though Are there better saves? Banks against Pele - Dudek vs Shevchenko in the 2005 Champions league final, just off the top of my head - greatest penalty save though was Almunia in the Watford vs Leicester playoff semi final which any true football fan knows what happened 15 seconds later

The problem is Most of the best saves ever have very poor quality video so don't get included in these lists, but yes that banks save was really good. the Higuita was at least 2 decades after Bank's save and the footage still looked rough.

FYI: goalkeeper cant grab ball with hands if the ball is deliberately passed (using foot) to the keeper by his own teammate... he can grab head passes.... and can grab deflection from legs of his own team mate....4:50 explained

On 2 I think they were in the last minutes of the game and they were down so on a corner kick they had everyone including the goalkeeper to try to score and tie the game

As an ex amateur keeper and then a part time keeper coach ... they say you have to be mad to be a keeper which is true lol a couple of saves on that list are ordinary tbh ... check out Gordon Banks save against Pele described as the greatest ever save or Jim Montgomery for Sunderland v Leeds United

To answer your question regarding number 2, there are times, normally in literal must-win games, where a team is a goal down and added time is almost up, the team gets a corner in the last breath of the game, and they send EVERYONE up the other end in one last ditch effort to get an equaliser - even the goalkeeper. At that point in the game they either score or they lose, and it does happen, there have been occasions when the goalkeeper has scored in one of these moments. Its truly incredible to watch. The downside, obviously, is that you are left completely defenceless. You either equalize or youre out.

Sadly one of Norways best keepers ever: Erik Thorstvedt ever end in such compilations. At his top while playing in England there were only Seaman and Schmeichel. Some of his saves were really epic. Like when he was heading right, then a rocket from distance came towards the other corner. So he shifted weight superfast, then proppelled himself to the other side, and in full stretch caught the ball firmly between his hands, without dropping the ball.

I'd agree with those btl that Dudek, Montgomery and Banks all rate a mention, Dudek and Montgomery particularly because of them both being in finals; to which I'd also add (& I'm a Liverpool fan of 60 years standing) that '68 European Cup final, a minute to go, the score 1-1 and Eusabio, rated the best player in the world at the time, one on one with Alex Stepney and Stepney saves to take the game into extra time where Utd win the game and become the first English club to win the European Cup. Not a flashy save but still.

dude dint even watched the number one save, the video wasnt over after the headbut. The game goes to extra time in an inteense and long penaltykick shootout. they are even and if France scores they are worldchampion. The kick is taken, the keeper jumps the wrong direction but can still hit the ball with the tip of his toes; shooting the ball out of the stadium LITRALLY out of the stadium. Italy is champion of the world. What a year 2006 was, really amazing.

The goal is 24 feet wide, 8 feet tall. The goalkeeper is the only one who can legally touch the ball with his hands in the 18-yard (penalty) box. No rule forbids any players to go wherever they want. Defenders and attackers can flood the 6-yard box, especially during corners. Goalkeepers can also join the attack, but because of the pitch is so large it's very risky. They only do it when their team needs 1 goal, it's very late in the match and they get a corner or a free kick near the opponent's goal so he has time to jog up.

1:40 Everybody can touch the ball in and outside the box. Goalkeepers are the only ones allowed to use their hands in the box but, if a gk started to dribble every one and score goals, that would be legal. Also if an oufield player stood in the box and saving goals, that would also be legal, as long as he doesn't use his hands. 4:40 That was a backpass. Goalkeepers can't use their hands on backpasses 8:10 Sometimes when you're losing and the last kick of the game is a corner in your favour, everybody goes forward to attack (gk included) so you have the max probability to score. The final result is either a draw (if you score) or a lost match.

Zidane was the world's best footballer player and had already won the 1998 world cup. The 2006 world cup was his last game. The italian player insulted his mother during the whole game until Zidane lost control. With his best player out of the game, France finished by loosing the game. This game traumatized a whole country and French people still cry when seeing this.

Yes, goalkeeper is one of the hardest positions. If they make a few good saves, they are heroes, but if they make one mistake, they're a villain. You should watch some goalkeeping blunders, when goalies throw the ball into their own goal.😊

The number 2 save, sometimes if you are at the end of the game, and you desperately need a goal, the goalkeeper will go up to the other side to improve the odds of scoring. Obviously if this doesn't work out, you have to run back as fast as possible to avoid the opponents from scoring.

Keepers will defend the goal line but all other player will defend and try to stop the ball getting that far. Thats the defenders main role of protecting and defending around the box.

On 4:45 it was not clear if the keeper was allowed to use his hands. Cause there‘s a rule saying that the goalkeeper can‘t touch the ball with his hands when it comes from a teammate. But only if he intentionally passes it back. So to avoid any discussions and maybe risking a free kick on the 5 meter line, he saved it with his head which was brilliant

Any out field player can defend the goal, but only the goal keeper can use their hands, but only inside the box. The keepers cannot handle a ball outside the box.
