The reason some kings wanted to ban football is that, in their day, it wasn't the organised sport that we know and love today. It was, instead, two neighbouring villages kicking the sh*t out of each other for a while, with the goals a couple of miles apart, or so.

The Queen has rwo roles. The first is the ceremonial side and the constitutional side. Every day she reads the accounts of the Parliamentary debates. Any laws passed by the House of Commons do not become law until she signs the documents. Technically she can refuse to sign, but, to my knowledge she has never done so. Hope this helps. Also, fun fact: the stones of stone henge were quarried 170 miles away, from a place called Preseli in Pembrokeshire. Nobody actually knows how the stone was taken from there to Salisbury. Also, that 170 miles includes a bridge over the river Severn, which obviously would not have existed back then. The actual trip would have been over 200 miles.

"Nobody knows".. nah, it is "nobody knows for certain" but rolling logs is one way to do it, rafts across water etc and those have been tested, been found to be most plausible. It has been quite an ordeal to transport them, a lot of it is unknown or uncertain but it is a bit too much to say "nobody knows", cause we have quite a good idea how they did it... Which is fair, there aren't that many methods they could've used. Just imagine how LONG it takes to get just one stone moved, it has been quite a massive commitment from the society that built them. A lot of extra grain were needed.

The reason for the large amount of pubs on the UK is that back in the day, it wasn't safe to drink the water, so nearly everyone, kids as well, drank alcoholic drinks. Also the reason why pub signs have pictures and unusual names is because again back in the day most people couldn't read or write and relied on a picture to let them know it was the right place. The amount stated is less than it was because a lot have now closed owing to changes in habits and clean water.

Every prime minister meets with the queen once a week to discuss current events. almost all previous prime ministers have said that the queen is one of their most trusted and tactful advisors. She has been playing that role for 70 years so she's very familiar and experienced in politics. She has played a role in wars, resignations and all sorts of national disasters. Her first prime minister was winston churchill. Nobody knows how big of an influence she plays but for context, Harold Wilson was known to have disliked the monarchy but in the end of his term he was one of her biggest supporters.

@@gtaylor331 Ooohhh...can I be number #2? I know lots of stuff about the UK. I've always been a fan. What I don't love is when people classify a whole nation as ignorant because they don't on average know much about the culture of a small country on the other side of the world. How much does your average British person know about Filipino or Brazilian culture? And sure they maybe know a bit more about American culture because a massive amount of English speaking media is American but even then that's superficial. Very few people I've known from other countries including the UK could point to my state (Lousiana) on a map or tell me any more about it's culture than Mardi Gras and New Orleans and there's a bit more to it than that. And the thing is, that's absolutely fine. There are too many places in the world for any one person to know all about all of them. What's not fine is stereotyping people based on nationality. If it was, there wouldn't be a point to me learning anything about British culture, I could have just stopped 25 years ago after I watched Mr. Bean and just assumed everyone over there was a bumbling idiot.

You´re correct in your assessment of the monarch as a ¨mascot." In fact, Parliament has run the country since (depending how exactly you define it) either 1660 or 1689. It´s interesting that the American rebels against Britain in the 1770s framed their campaign as a protest against the monarch, since the monarch had already really been only a "mascot" for about 100 years.

Theoretically, the role of the British monarch (king/queen) is to serve as head of state while the PM is the head of government. Practically though, the queen doesn't do much. She mostly delegates her duties to other senior royals (like Charles, the prince of wales) or to government ministers like the Prime minister.

Spread Love. Entertaining and for a UK native and resident, I too learnt a few things. Haggis, is absolutely beautiful. Ignore the ingredients list. It tastes amazing, mostly tastes like a very savoury ground lamb with oatmeal. It is served with buttered mashed potatoes, mashed swede (or turnip) and washed dow with a glass of Scottish whiskey (Scotch). We here in the UK gave the world computers, telephones, television, the world wide web, bag-less vacuum cleaners, ducted vacuum cleaning systems (first on in the Houses of Parliament), we had the biggest navy in the world (not any longer), invented the steam trains, our beer isn't warm, however it isn't ice chilled either, only lager beers are chilled to ice cold. We invented the lightbulb, Thomas Edison only improved it, he did not invent it. Many, many facts would also spin your head too about the UK, but America is not without its own fantastic and amazing facts which the world has seen too and which we are very grateful for. So glad to have watched your video and hope to see more. Hope you enjoy a lot of success too. Oh by the way, the Queen does have a meeting with the Prime Minister every Tuesday and he or she will often receive advice and guidance from Her Majesty The Queen in matters of governance. The Queen has advised every single British Prime Minister since she became Queen in 1952. Starting with Sir Winston Churchill up to our present Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

The union jack is actually only called a union jack if it is mounted on the front of a battle ship with a wooden pole (jack). Other than that it is just called a Union flag. We go to the pub all the time. It's normal as pubs usually also serve food and have a pool table. It's quite common to go to the pub for an evening meal with the family (including children) rather than getting a takeout. Or you can meet your friends for lunch. Also you can stay overnight in some pubs if they are called an Inn, same as a hotel. I pay approximately £600 per month out of my wages for tax and national insurance, healthcare isn't free, We pay for it, just over a period of time and we can help others (elderly, young single mums or dads, those who can't work) who can't afford healthcare in the hope that their children will be paying their taxes too in the future. We sort of help eachother. There was a time that I needed help as a single mother at 17 but I pay back into the system now. It certainly isn't free. A quarter of my income goes on tax and national insurance

The Queen's main official role really is as head of the Commonwealth of Nations. The Commonwealth of Nations is essentially a bunch of countries that used to be British colonies (example members being Canada, Australia and New Zealand), and they work together in terms of trade, commerce, international relations and defence. The Queen is also not just the Queen of the UK - she is the Queen of many other countries, including the aforementioned Canada, Australia and New Zealand. However, Prince Charles has since taken over as the head of the Commonwealth of Nations as the Queen is pretty old these days, but the Royal family do engage in a number of charities and events across the UK, and a number of male members of the family have also been in the military too. Or if you're Prince Andrew, you like kiddies a bit too much......

The first king of England was Athelstan, Alfred's grandson. Alfred was king of Wessex, before England existed. He's 'The Great', because he led the fight back against the Viking invasion, and started uniting the Saxon kingdoms to form Anglaland, or England.
