You can miss the bowl . This is just highlights so it may not be shown . You are only out if it bowl hits the stump or your legs are in front of wicket(base what you are calling ) and bowl are going to hit the stump but it is stopped by your legs it's call lbw out ( leg before wicket )...

Challenge accepted. "There are no 'strikes' in cricket, but if the wooden target (three uprights and a crosspiece) is hit by the ball then the batter is out 'bowled'. You can use the bat to stop this happening and you do not *have* to run if you hit the ball, but if you miss and some other part of you stops the ball hitting the target then you're out anyway 'leg before wicket'. Umpire decides if the ball would have hit and one or two other technicalities. There is also no 'hit by pitch' in cricket."

Few early things about cricket (for an American: 1. No home runs. (runs are structured as either how many times the batting pair run the length of the bowling strip or boundaries - where the ball is hit out of the playing field - which are 4 runs is the ball bounces, or 6 if the ball is hit over the line without bouncing) 2. No bases. (The batting area is called the crease and the structure is different to baseball but harder to explain) Two batsmen are in at any one time and can rotate the strike by hitting the ball and running. There is a bowler on the opposing team who bowls 6 deliveries from the same end (an over). At the end of the over, a new bowler will bowl from the other end. Etc. Etc. 3. The ball is not bouncier than a baseball and is harder (The reason they can hit the ball so far is because how hard the ball is meaning it can travel further off the bat.) And yes it can hurt to catch! 4. You can miss the ball and not be out. However if the ball is bowled into the stumps directly you are out. Also if you leave the crease and miss the ball, the wicketkeeper can stump you (hit the wickets whilst holding the ball) and you are out. You were watching the shortest form of the game, 'Twenty20', where both teams have 1 innings with 20 overs (120 deliveries) to bat. This is the most exciting form of the game as teams score runs much quicker (around 8 or 9 runs an over is usually an average score). International sides also play 'one day' games, which are 1 innings with 50 overs for each team to bat. Runs are slower in this form but there are still boundaries scored fairly often (usually 7 to 8 runs an over). Also there is the 'Test match' format where the two teams play over 5 days (around 90 overs are bowled per day in this format). Test matches are a lot more tactical and runs are scored much slower (3-4 runs an over). In these games both teams have 2 innings with no real limit to overs other than taking runs and time into consideration. Teams consist of 11 players. Usually these players can be narrowed down into 3 groups: Bowlers Batsmen Wicketkeeper Often teams have players who are equally good at batting and bowling as it means they can have more options to bowl and they can pick more players specialised at one role. And let's pretend LBW isn't a thing because that would take far too long to explain.

@@beanieculley7271 not quite. The ball must pitch on the line of the stumps or off side. Impact with the leg(body) must be in the line of the stumps. Only a couple of the stipulations among many that count towards an LBW

The ball is much harder, more solid than a baseball and yes if you don’t catch it right it can bloody hurt. We don’t wear a glove because the game rule say so.
@musicalneptunian
@musicalneptunian 6 жыл бұрын
The worst outcome is if the ball gets in the webbing of your hands. That can cause real damage. Or if the ball hits the end of your finger. But catching the ball normally does not hurt. If it hurts you are using bad technique; it shoudl fall into your cupped hands. The wicket keeper [same as baseball shortstop] is the only one who wears gloves.

I've taught many Americans cricket, you *can* use baseball analogies, you have to remember that there are often no direct equivalents, but there are many concepts that are the same. So for example - there is no such thing as "bases," but there are many concepts which bases use that are contained in cricket terms - the "safe harbour" being the crease, the concept of tagging in and out on the base combining the crease and the stumps, and so on. You just have to say to an American that you don't tag the runner to run him out - you tag the stumps before he reaches the crease (amusingly, the Mankad dismissal makes complete sense to Americans). "Balls" and wides are basically equivalents - but obviously there are no walks. "Strikes" don't exist. And the stumps and the satisfying crunchy noise they make when bowled are easily explainable to an American as signifying that you're out. It only gets tricky when you're explaining overs and the LBW rule.
@carlallery3693
@carlallery3693 5 жыл бұрын
To be honest, I've found most success explaining cricket to Americans in terms of NFL rather than baseball. Each ball being closer to an NFL 'play' in terms of arranging the fielders and what the bowler is planning to do on the fielding side and the batsmen having their own strategy for making runs. Plus there's often a little 'huddle' between balls. Once I start talking about the strategy and tactics and comparing (especially the test form) to NFL offensive/defensive strategies, it appears to make sense. :)

Hey mate (yes, I'm from Australia!), I really enjoyed this video of yours. :) One thing I've noticed, from reading the comments, is that there are a lot of idiots out there who are bagging you and/or Americans in general. Yes, there are many Americans who don't even try to understand cricket and think it's rubbish. I don't really care for those people. But it is sad to see people bagging you, when you seem pretty genuine and are willing to learn about the great sport of cricket. It is my favourite sport, and it has been since I was 4 years old (I am 41 now)!! What is really annoying is those idiots who carry on about you using baseball terminology when you're trying to understand cricket. The best way to learn something new is to make connections with something familiar (oh, I am a high school teacher too, by the way!!). You can learn the cricket terminology later, and you will learn it much more effectively when you understand what you are watching. It seems intuitive, not to mention most effective, to learn how the game works by linking it with baseball terminology, then replacing the baseball words with cricket words later!! Anyway, if you have any questions about what you saw in this clip, or about the sport of cricket in general, please feel free to drop me a line! I'd be more than happy to help you out - my knowledge of baseball is limited, but I know most of the basics of the sport and the terminology to be able to help you understand cricket from that perspective. :) Cheers!!

Angry American Just to let you know mate Cricket in US has history older then Baseball..Brits brought it and had many cricket clubs but It didn't gained ground because back then only the longer version of Cricket used to be played. Baseball started way after Cricket and got famous for it's shorter duration of play.. Otherwise Cricket is more difficult, the ball is way harder & comes at you from different angles and at different speeds. The fast bowlers can easily knock you out, & can take your head,legs with Bouncers & Yorkers.

Dude cricket officially has 3 types of formats . T20's, ODI and test match . Now test cricket is the classic form or you can say that it is the true from of cricket . It is the original format played in England in 1900s. The match you have just saw is the T20 format . It is made for people who like fast paced game where batsmen is scoring runs( hitting the ball out of ground and all) but test cricket is a format which tests players temperament, his patience , his magic and how they use their techniques to win a 5 day long match . ( P.S the match doesn't continue for 5 straight days but their is a fix time period per day between which the game will happen. It happens for 5 days). T20 is the only format which is a bit similar to baseball . But if you want to enjoy the real taste of cricket then you should start watching test format . Afterall it is a gentalmen game.

So if the ball hits the batsman in front of the stumps(the 3 sticks) and it seems as if the ball wouldve hit the stumps, it is called as LBW (Leg Before Wicket) and is then given out or not depending on what the umpire says. If the ball goes over the rope without coming in contact with the ground before the rope, it is a Six. It is just like a home run just you get runs (points). But if it comes in contact with the ground before the rope, then it is a Four. The batters have to run from their crease (White Line infront of the stumps) to the other crease to score a run. They can do this as many times as they as so long as they dont get run-out. Catching is really not that hard it's just a skill you have to kind of learn and it doesn't hurt the hands. It can hurt alot if you do not catch it right. A cricket ball is wayyyyyy harder and solid than a baseball A run out is when the batsmen is running to the crease and the ball hits the stumps. You have to be outside the crease to be called out tho.

In cricket there are 11 possible ways in which a batsman can be out..but some are so rare that we can ignore then..so the most common ways of getting out are: 1 *Bowled* when the ball bowled by the bowler hits the stumps then the batsman is out. 2*LBW* if the ball hits the leg/pads of a batsman then the umpire(one in red dress) has to make the decision if left alone the ball would have gone to hit the stump or not. If he thinks it would hit the stumps then the batsman is out 3: *CAUGHT* if the batsman manages to hit the ball but any player catches the ball before it touches the ground then the batsman is out. 4: *Run Out* when the batsman hits the ball and runs to other end other players have the chance to grab the ball and hit the wicket with it. If they manage to hit the wicket before batsman can cross the crease(the white line) then he is out.

Basically the bowler/pitcher is trying to hit the stumps (the 3 sticks) to get the batsman out, the batsman is trying to hit the ball far away to achieve runs/points. What happened, was the batsman missed the ball completely with the bat, but the ball was heading to hit the wicket/stumps, the batsman got his leg in the way and stopped the ball hitting the stumps, so the umpire/referee judged him to be out by the LBW rule, leg before wicket

Cricket balls are a lot harder than baseballs they’re literally rock solid which makes them much harder to hit And if u miss a ball it’s ok u won’t get out These r the most common ways 2 get out Bowled: when the ball hits the 3 sticks or stumps 1 stick is called a stump all 3 stumps together make a wicket Catch: just like in baseball if the fielder catches ur shot ur out Run out: u can get run out if u hit a shot and run but a fielder throws the ball back at the wicket before u get into the white line or the crease LBW: when u miss the ball and the ball hits ur leg. If the umpire thinks that if ur leg wasn’t there then the ball would hit the wickets, then ur out this was the one u were wondering about

The batting team ( both teams get to do this ) You are defending the stumps ….with the bat , if you hit the ball you can run to the other base ( the other baseman takes your place as the batter ….you can run more than once ( whoever ends up at the batting base is the batsman ) it’s okay to not hit the ball, but if it hits your leg in front of the stumps then you are out ( you did not defend with your bat ) you are not allowed to defend the stumps with your body . If you hit the ball you can run …if you hit it to the boundary you get 4 'runs' ( you don’t need to actually run ) , if you hit it over the boundary , you get 6 'runs' … the "fielding team"…..you are trying to hit the stumps with the ball …..or to catch a ball that is hit by the batsman …once you do either, the batsman is out…..once the whole batting team are out, your team becomes the batting team . Team with higher score ( Runs ) at the end wins .

They don't get 'home runs' the aim is to get as many runs a possible. If it goes out of the boundary without bouncing its 6 runs if it goes out but bounces it's 4 runs. The ball can go behind but if it hits the sticks then it's out.

Forget about 3 strikes and out and home runs....the batsman can miss every ball bowled to him and not be out. Its only out if the ball hits the "wicket" (bowled) if the ball hits his leg in front of the wicket (LBW=leg before wicket) if hes "stumped" an opposing player removes the "bails" off the wicket when hes not in his crease (the area within the lines in front of the wicket) by hitting the ball and the ball being caught or by being "run out" not making it back to his crease before an opposing player hits the wicket with a throw. If the batsman hits the ball and it touches the boundary 4 runs are scored. If the ball goes over the boundary without bouncing its 6 runs. Other runs are scored by the batsman running from his wicket to the wicket at the other end. Thats a very short explaination of the game

well, if the ball misses the bat and hits the legs (pads) in front of the wickets (the three sticks behind the batsman) then the batsman is out. It's called "leg before wicket", like, if his leg wasn't there, the ball would hit the wicket and if the ball hits the wicket then the batsman is out. The batsman can leave the ball, if it doesn't hit the wickets he's not out. And, the fielders don't wear anything on the hand. That 'one time' you referred to at the end of the video, batsman actually missed it and the leg before wicket thing happened (it's quite hard to judge and if the umpire can't decide there ultrasound sensors and stuff and a third umpire decides if the batsman is out or not)
@aussiejed1

Quick basics of how to get out in cricket: 1. "Bowled". The bowler (pitcher) hits the stumps (the three sticks behind the batter) with the ball and dislodges the bails (the two small bits atop the stumps). 2. "Caught". The batter hits the ball, an opposing team fielder catches it. Same as baseball. 3. "Run Out". In attempting to score (run) a batsman does not make it to within the "crease" (the white lines at either end of the pitch) before someone with the ball (either thrown or in their hands) dislodges the bails. 4. "Leg Before Wicket" (LBW). On a delivery (pitch) the ball *would* hit the stumps but the batter put his leg in the way. 5. "Stumped". The player behind the stumps with the gloves (known as the wicket keeper) catches the ball that the batter misses completely, however the batter has moved forward enough down the pitch that he is entirely outside the crease; the wicket keeper then knocks off the bails. There are particular rules for each method that are more detailed. There are also other ways, however these are the most common.

@evanwilliams3211
@evanwilliams3211 6 жыл бұрын
Most common ways of getting out, simplified as much as possible: Bowled- when the bowler (equivalent of a pitcher in baseball) bowls (throws) the ball and it hits the stumps (3 sticks in ground). Caught- when the batsman (batter) hits the ball in the air and the ball is caught by a fielder. LBW(leg before wicket)- when the bowler bowls the ball and it hits the batsman on the body and it didn't hit the bat, and if the ball was going to go on and hit the stumps if he didn't get in the way. So essentially if the batsman stops the ball hitting the stumps with his body. Run out- when they try to run from one end to the other (from one base to another) and they don't make it to the other side and the fielder hits the stumps with the ball, like when a fielder in baseball would tap the batsman with the ball between bases and he'd be out.

The one where he didn’t hit it but he was still out was because it was a ‘Leg before wicket’(LBW) basically the ball hit his leg where it was going to hit the wicket (the sticks behind the batter) and there are 2 batters going out to play their overs. One on each ‘base’ as you call it. When the one on the batting ‘base’ hits the ball they decide if they run. Then both of them have to run to the other set of stumps (base) and each time both of them make it to the opposite stumps they get 1 run. Then the boundaries are the ring going around the field. If the Ball crosses that after it’s bounced it’s an automatic 4 runs and if it goes over without a bounce they get 6 runs. When the Ball goes over the boundary the batters don’t have to run

*In baseball 4 bases makes 1 run and if you get out before making 4th base your run isn't counted while in cricket it's simple every base is counted as run so whoever makes more number of bases wins. But in cricket it's way more difficult coz 11 guys are defending plus you need to protect those 3 sticks with Bat only and another thing is you can leave n number of balls while in baseball you can't miss 3 strikes or concede more than 4 balls*

If the ball hits the stumps or would have hit the stumps but your leg blocks it, you're out. The stumps can be taken out either on the actual bowl or when the ball reaches the stumps whilst one of the my players is running a run and they don't reach the line in time. The one running toward the stumps that were taken out is out. If the bowl is caught without bouncing, they're also out. If the bowl goes outside of the boundary without bouncing it's a 6, if it hits the boundary by bouncing, it's a 4 and anything before that depends on the runs the the players make after hitting the bowl.

The idea is the batting team are to get as many runs as the can in a certain amount of overs, there is 6 balls per over. And the bowling/ fielding team are trying to get 10 wickets to minimize the amount of runs against them. Each team have specialized batters and bowlers. After each over is completed they change ends of the pitch, hence why there is two, what you called bases, are actually called wickets/stumps or nicknamed the castle. The batting team have to try and protect them. The question you asked was he missed the ball and got out. If the ball is going to "hit" the stumps and some part of the body restricts the ball hitting the stumps, that's called LBW or Leg Before Wicket. Your allowed to leave the ball, play a dead bat shot or miss it as long as the ball doesn't hit the stumps. You can run in between the stumps, but the best way is to hit it out of the ground or what we call the boundary for 6 runs or along the ground to the boundary for 4 runs. They're 11 fielders on the ground which includes 1 bowler or pitcher(baseball term) and one wicket keeper or catcher(baseball term) which leaves 9 fielders who are strategically placed around the ground to stop the ball reaching the boundary and or catch the ball. Just ask me for more questions. Cricket is a very difficult game to play, and I'm really good at it and love it so do many other people around the world. I'm predominately an opening batsman (hitter) and can bowl spin, seam and pace.

really glad you watched this actually, you've earned a sub :). Now if you wanted to get into cricket I would suggest watching the shortest formats to begin with, as its the most entertaining for a newcomer. This is T20 which you were watching the highlights of. There are international tournaments like the World Cup or a a series between nations. there are also domestic tournaments for each major country. I would suggest watching the Big Bash (Australia), IPL (India) and the T20 Blast (England), although the latter is about to introduce a new tournament to try and replicate the successes of the other two. I honestly believe T20 cricket could really take off in America. When you feel more confident (and interested) you should check out the most traditional format of the game, Test Matches, where international teams play each other over the course of 5 days. Its a lot slower paced but can be very absorbing to watch all the way through.

I had the daunting privilege of explaining the game to an American friend while watching it live here in South Africa. He eventually understood how the game worked. Cricket is the greatest game, although this version (T20) is my least favourite. Well done in trying to understand it. One point which I don't think anyone has made is why the bowler (pitcher) runs in before releasing the ball. That's because, unlike baseball, he is not allowed to throw the ball, but must release it with a straightened arm. Try doing that at speed without a run. This action also allows much greater variation in the ball's flight (swerve through the air, deviation off the pitch etc.) Remember also that the batsman's reaction time is greatly shortened by the ball's deviation. You can spend the rest of your life trying to understand cricket's subtleties and you will still be learning.

ian gibson I agree on the T20 part. Being T20 it compares better to baseball, as in the batsmen are always trying to hit the ball as far as possible. *There are 3 Formats in Cricket 1. Test Match (5 days) 2. ODI Match ( 300 Balls, each team faces) 3. T20 Match ( 120 Balls , Each team faces)....ODI and T20 lasts 8 hours n 4 hours respectively------Main Goal in Cricket ,is to Score Maximum Number of Runs of the given balls and to Protect those Stumps (3 Lighting wooden sticks) and you can only protect using your Bat if you protect using your body you will be penalized and given out if you put any part of your body in front of wickets ( 3 wooden sticks) in order to protect em you will be given LBW( Leg Before Wicket) out . When ball is deflected off the bat you can run between the wickets score runs but if fall short of reaching the batting box you will be given run out and if you hit a grounded shot till it crosses the Rope Circle (it's oval shape btw) you get 4 runs...if it's an aerial shot without touch ground n goes over the ropes it's a 6 (Maximum run/equivalent to Home run in Baseball). Cricket Ball is harder than Baseball and you get lesser time to hit the ball as compared to baseball coz ball comes very fast to the batsman/Batter..you can leave the ball or just nudge it if it's tough one..not necessary to hit every ball but the problem is most of the balls are hard to handle and if you defend them all you will end up scoring very less so it's necessary to hit most of the balls n score as many runs as possible and if you play a poor aerial shot and fielders catch it before it touch the ground you will be given out...The reason it's a interesting game is that there 10s of things can happen to each delivery but you never know what it is...while in Football you run 90+ minutes and end up without a goal manier times..similarly in Baseball there are 3-4 things that can happen...Cricket is the 3rd most watched sports in the world..It's an English game so it's common to Commonwealth nations and former colonies of England...mostly England, Australia, New Zealand, the Caribbean Islands, South Africa and one of the biggest market or hub is Indian Sub continent (India, Pakistan, Sri lanka, Bangladesh)...Each Team has 11 players generally mix of refined Batters and refined bowlers...and they all have to Bat if needed and they all can throw the ball to batter..at moment there are 2 Batsmen/Batter at the Pitch and from opposition team 1 guy bowls while other try to stop the Batsman from scoring..Opposition tries it's best to restrict you from scoring and tries to get you out either by hit the Wooden Sticks or make you play poor shot n they catch the ball or they ran you out...that's all*

Cricket 101 If you're legs block the wicket..the wicket are those three sticks or stumps behind the batsman, you're out. The bowler needs to hit those wickets to get the batsman out and if the batsman blocks the ball heading towards the wicket with his legs or any bodypart, he's out. This only works when the ref (umpire) is sure the ball is going to hit the wicket.

There are many ways of a Batsman getting out in cricket. You know about getting " caught". Then there is being "bowled" when the ball hits any of the 3 stumps ( irrespective of whether the batsman hits the ball or not ) then there is LBW which is "Leg Before Wicket".If THe Umpire decides the ball would have hit the stumps without the batsman's leg getting in the way then he is out( otherwise a batsman could just stand in the way to protect the stumps and not do anything at all ). Then you saw an example of a Batsman getting "Stumped" when the player immediately behind the batsman ( The Wicketkeeper) is alowed to knock the stumps down with the ball if you are out of the allocated area that you stand in (THe "Crease" ) then there is being "Run Out" when the players set off but the Fielder hits the stumps with the ball before the batsman gets inside the crease that he is running to. Finally and theleast likely is when a player hits his own wicket while attempting a shot. There are a few others but so rare they are not worth mentioning. :)

Your question about missing the ball and the ball not hitting the wickets is that the batsman was 'stumped'. In cricket you have a 'crease', its a line in front of the wicket that the batsman must stay in while being bowled at. If he goes outside of that line the wicket keeper, they guy behind the wickets, can then while holding the ball hit the wickets to get the batsman out. You also kept on calling it a home run but its actually 6 runs. You score runs by running between the two wickets or by hitting the ball over the boundary ( the rope around the field). If the ball travels over the rope without bouncing that is called a 6 ( 6 runs ) or if it bounces its called a 4 ( 4 runs ).

The most common ways of being out in cricket are -BOWLED this is when the ball is bowled and hits the stumps behind the batsman (the stumps are the poles) -CAUGHT same as in baseball ( caught with no bounce) -STUMPED the equivalent of not reaching a base before the ball is touched on the base -LBW If the batter was going to be bowled out but It touches his legs that are in the way I hope that makes sense

The ball can hit the stumps, it's only out if it knocks the bales off. The LBW rule is also a lot more complex than just if it hits his legs

@dairallan 6 жыл бұрын
Just to add Stumped is only usually used when "the base is touched" by the wicket keeper (shortstop) when you move beyond the crease (4 ft from the wicket) and miss the ball. If you are out because the wicket is knocked by the ball before you reach it when you are trying to run it is called Run out.

It doesn't really hurt if you catch it right is the times you don't get it right that hurt. I've caught 'rockets' one-handed and never felt them. other times easy catch you don't get right and they hurt like hell.

There are 4 main ways to get out : Bowled - this is where the ball hits the stumps after being bowled Leg before wicket (LBW) - where the ball hits the batsmen’s pads and the batsmen don’t hit it and the ball would go on to hit the stumps ( three sticks ) Run out - this is when the batsmen runs to the other end of the pitch and doesn’t make it in the crease before the ball hits the stumps Caught - where the ball is hit and a fielder catches it

That hitting on pads is called LBW(Leg Before Wicket). If you cover the line of stumps and you miss the bat and then get hit on the pads you are out
@BlazinBlz
@BlazinBlz 5 жыл бұрын
Okay, let's see here, as an Aussie, I'll try my best to explain the game; If you miss it, you are not necessarily out, if it doesn't hit the stumps you're not out, however if it hits your legs first, and it is deemed that if you were not there that the ball would continue on to hit the stumps you are deemed out by LBW (leg before wicket) but if it hits your legs and is deemed that it would not hit the stumps, you're not out. If you are caught by any of the fielders, on the full, you are out, the only fielder that is allowed to wear gloves is the Wicket-keeper (the person who stands right behind the stumps) this fielder is also allowed to wear shin pads, whilst a fielder in the WK position as well as the two "silly" positions are also allowed to wear a helmet and box (ball protector) the silly positions are basically right in front of the batter just off the pitch, either side. I also believe there is a rule stating that a fielder can wear thin gloves if they are deemed that they do not give any extra grip to the fielder, but don't quote me on that one. When batting, there are a few ways to get runs, hitting the ball and running between the wicket, most commonly for one or two runs, but I've seen a 7 gotten this way due to some poor fielding, you can also hit it over the boundary, if it clears the rope on the full it is good for 6 runs, if it bounces or rolls over the rope, 4, the batting team will also get runs if an illegal ball is bowled (wide or no-ball). A wide ball is when a ball is bowled wide, obviously, and is either behind the batter or way to far in front of the batter, this will give the batting team 1 run and an extra ball to be bowled in the over, a no ball is when a bowler either has his front foot in front of the crease line, has his arm bent at the time of delivery, or if he bowls a waist high full toss (a ball that doesn't bounce) this will not only give the batting team an extra run, but will also give the batting team a free hit, where the batter can't get out unless he is run out, hits the ball twice or interferes with the fielders, so even if caught, bowled or stumped, he can't get out, the field also must stay the same as the last delivery unless the batsmen changed (by changing ends, or getting run out). When batting it is also required that you wear at least shin pads and gloves, super duper highly recommended you wear a box (not enforced, but you're stupid if you don't) and also highly recommended you wear thigh pads, a helmet, and an arm guard, most junior cricket will require you to wear a helmet, and it's getting more and more enforced, especially in Australia since the Phil Hughes incident, even though he was wearing one at that time (google it). You can also have the completely optional piece of equipment which is a chest guard. I'd say that sums up the basics, but there is a lot to cricket, like, a lot a lot, hence why every cricketer can play Baseball, but few baseballers can play cricket

you can miss the ball anytime you want, but you cant miss the ball if its heading straight into the stumps/wicket. so if its goes on to hit your legs or any other body part, other than your bat, while the ball was heading straight to the stumps, then that is obstruction and you are out, and it is called LBW (leg before wicket). plus some additional technicalities for LBW. the ball must not pitch or bounce on the leg side of the wickets, which means it shouldnt bounce behind your legs but should be coming from the side where your bat is. plus the obstruction, hitting the legs etc must happen right infront of the wicket. so if the ball is coming at an angle from the right side and legs are hit but the obstruction is not infront of the wicket, then not out even if the balls trajectory might go onto hit the wicket.

There is a dismissal called 'leg before wicket'. What that basically means is, if the batsmen is trying to play the ball in front of the stumps (wickets), and it doesn't hit the bat but hits his leg pads, you are out. As long as the ball is in line with the stumps and hits the pads, he is out!! You have to keep in mind that, there is no dismissal, if the ball is too high. It might look right but, it has to be within the length of the wickets.

Ok here is a short(ish) explanation of LBW 1, The bowler bowls a ball that is not a no-ball. 2, The ball bounces outside or within the line of the stumps. 3, The batsman is hit in line with the stumps(or if they are not playing a shot, outside off.) 4, The ball would've gone on to hit the stumps. I hope this helps some people. 😁

Hey fella. Thanks for giving this sport a look and giving us this review from someone not brought up to understand it. It was fun to watch. I'm a cricket lover/player who likes baseball but knows nothing about it other than bats meets ball, just like cricket. Maybe us Brits should do a similar video on baseball. And yes, we are better at catching the ball, its about the same size, a little heavier and harder and it can hurt too (a few broken fingers over the years), but it's a great feeling grabbing one out of the sky :) Enjoyed your film. Thank You. I Hope you get a chance to have a go at Cricket one day. Enjoy your baseball. Go the A's . . . .

The one you were confused about the ball hit his leg pad but would have hit the wicket if his leg was not in the way, called LBW (Leg Before Wicket), and you are not allowed to use your legs to hit the ball before the bat has hit it first.
