DJ Kool Herc brought that Jamaican soundsystem culture to The Bronx in the 70s, that mixed with American Funk/Disco and gave birth to Hip Hop. That soundsystem culture came to England from Jamaica with the 1940s 'Windrush Generation' (the Windrush boat is my avatar) and had its own parrallel evolutionary journey, through Jungle/DnB and House & Garage music and mixed with British culture. That's why Grime MCs tend to rhyme in different pockets of the beat than Hip Hop artists, still has some of that Carribean cadence, like Dancehall toasting.

@@GDGFury LET ME EXPLAIN A GRIME SET: A GRIME SET consists of a DJ mixing through all kinds of electronic instrumentals, usually at 140 beats per minute but NOT exclusively, while GRIME MCs take turns spitting their lyrics one after the other. As one MC spits the other listens out for the changing 'riddim' (instrumental) and decides on which one of his tons of lyrics will match. It's like Double Dutch, like Hot Potato with bars. If an MC follows with a perfect lyric, perfect flow and catches the beat as it drops, it's like sticking a perfect landing in gymnastics, and that's the ONLY time in GRIME where the music is stopped. The DJ 'wheels' back the vinyl just like in Reggae Dancehall...

so first to understand d double e you need to have an understanding of the actual genre of music hes making this isn't hip hop in the uk there's a subgenre of electronic dance music that mcs rap over called grime grime is music that evolved from jungle uk house drum and bass and uk garage and also a little history the uk didnt have many black people in it until after world war 2 because most of africa was a colony of the uk same for jamaica and most of inda even the us started as a british colony so after world war 2 london had been completely destroyed by german bombings so they sent ships to their colonies to bring back people to rebuild the city the offered people promises of jobs and homes after the city was rebuilt and then they built ghettos at the literal ends of the city and forced all of the people that came to work from india jamaica africa into them these became known as the ends because there wasnt much ethnic diversity in london there wasnt any radio stations that played any type of urban music so people created pirate radio stations to play that type of music then people like d double e wiley dizzee rascal started speeding up these dancehall beats to 140bpm and rapping over them creating grime the pockets in which grime artists rhyme in are completely different to hip hop all forms of rap in the uk in someway owe some of their success to grime because grime got so big that the mainstream radio picked it up and it created a market for all types of urban music with that said d double e actually used to be an incredible grime artist he still has legendary adlibs but hes gotten lazy but when he first started making music he was completely unique and very skilled you should check out the song frontline from him heres a lyric video @
