Sir David is like the nation’s grandpa, you thought we as a country were sad when the Queen died? We’ll be inconsolable when Sir David passes

David Attenborough is one of those people who's existence has actually made the world a better place.

When he was Director of programming at the BBC, he also commissioned a little known programme called.... "Monty pythons flying circus" He is also responsible for bringing colour tv to the UK by commisioning the first colour tv programme broadcast in Europe . In front of & behind the cameras he is a legend .

Not just a national treasure here in England,but a GLOBAL treasure. He’s had more lifetimes than a thousand of the rest of us. His achievements are staggering,and he genuinely cares. Most recognisable voice on the planet.

I am from Denmark and since I was a small child, I have watched David Attenborough. This was how I learned about animals and nature. I understod early, that animals eat each other and that every species are important and interesting. After millions of years, everything has a special place, every tree, animal, insect etc. are working together, in some form. This planet is heaven, so it is sad, that we are killing it. Just his voice, makes me feel like home 💜

My wife was a book buyer for WH Smith (Tyler, a retail book store throughout the U.K.). She had to arrange book signing sessions for major authors and celebrities in their stores. Some of these people were very difficult to deal with and demanded all sorts of things and exotic food for lunch. Quite frankly most were completely obnoxious at times. But she loved dealing with David as he was so easy and down to earth. He had no stipulations and mucked in and always eat lunch (usually just a cheese sandwich and a coffee) in the staff canteen with everyone else including my wife. He did live in Richmond, nice part of South West London by the river, don’t know if he does now. She once had to arrange a signing session for him in a South East London store and she rang him direct (not through PAs, publishers, managers like others) and asked him if she could reserve a parking space in the public car park for his car. This was a few days after she had to prebook 6 parking spaces for a “celebrity “ and her entourage. He said there was no need as he was going to cycle there but could he park his bike in store. It must be a distance of 15 miles through heavy south London traffic and he must have been well over 70 at the time. A living legend and I will openly cry when I hear he has past away, although the way he is going he will outlive me.

There is not many living or dead that has done so much for conservation and education of the natural world as David Attenborough. He loves what he does and that comes through his voice on videos and his words in his books.

His brother was a famous actor and director - like the first Jurassic Park film (played Hammond in the movie) and directed "Ghandi". Sir David is a national treasure.

Without any exageration he is one of the greatest Britons of the 20th/21st Century

One of the reasons David with the gorillas was so incredibly special was because he showed their soft side. The general public thought of gorillas at the time as big aggressive animals. David showed us how much like us they are. For people watching on tvs at home, it was a bit shocking to see him so close with them.

David Attenborough is amazing. If you write to him, he WILL write back to you. He’s so humble. 😊

He is one of those rare people in the UK (maybe he's the only one) that is beloved by all. No matter our age, race or political alignment, we can all agree that Sir David is amazing.

He is the voice of at least 2 generations life he's been the father, uncle and grandfather of our nation. A calming voice indeed.

David Attenborough is unique, brilliant and an international treasure. We know so much about the planet and wildlife because he went out and filmed it, in a career going back more than 70 years. Legend.

While (I believe) that American TV is far more likely to pick up a series presented by someone more sensational like Steve Irwin, David Attenborough has been THE nature presenter for the UK going back way before I was born. I think it was his quiet, gentle manner of speech, his obvious fascination with nature and depth of knowledge that made him popular with people from all walks of life in the UK. He has kept his image apolitical as far as I am aware and unlike the majority of public figures from my childhood, he has not been found to have a broom closet full of skeletons so packed full that it is compressed to a greater density than the core of the sun - I think he was just too busy making high quality nature documentaries and writing books.

You should see when Sir David Attenborough met the Queen. They go for a walk around the garden of Buckingham Palace. For me it's priceless.

Many years ago, I helped erect a marquee for an event to be held in his stunning garden, near Kew, London. Completely unexpectedly, but typical of the man, he appeared bearing an ornate silver tray loaded with tea and cakes for the crew. An absolutely lovely man.

He was probably the voice I heard the most as a child. Out of every celebrity in the world, I would choose to meet him, so I could thank him. I think I'll cry like I lost my own grandfather when he dies, because of how much his documentaries have inspired me in my life; with the sheer wonder of the natural world. And he is absolutely more than just a narrator. He started as a geologist, then became fascinated with fossils, then got a job with the BBC, and became and explorer. He was given Britain's second ever TV channel, BBC2, to manage, where he even contributed to sport; he is the reason tennis balls are yellow, because the old balls they used didn't show up so well on black and white television. And then he quit management and went back to talking about animals and exploring, even a little bit now still even though he's 97. It's said that he may have seen more of the world than any person alive today. He is a national treasure and an inspiration.

David Attenborough is the very definition of National Treasure. When his time comes he will be mourned as universally as Queen Elizabeth was. I have been watching him on TV since the 1970s, and he very much reminds me of my late father. Incidentally, my father and he shared a godfather as their parents moved in similar circles. David's older brother was Sir Richard Attenborough the well known actor.

We all grew up watching him and the great thing is, he still speaks to all of us as adults, because he never talked down to anyone but also always explained things so they could be understood.

His brother Richard was a very famous Actor and Director. Not only did he direct the multi Oscar winning movie Gandhi but he was also the old man who brought the dinosaurs back in Jurassic Park but he was also Kriss Kringle in the 1994 version of Miracle on 34th Street.

David Attenborough is responsible for nature documentaries as we know them. He pretty much developed the genre. He also has been recorded in more television formats than anyone else on Earth.

I've met Mountain Gorillas, and I absolutely went because of Sir David! That programme, that's what hauled me all the way from Wales to Uganda. He's a wonderful man, a National Treasure who must be protected at all costs!

I think this shows a difference between UK and US cultures. Most narrators in the UK and experts in their field, brought in to talk about it, whereas, in the US they get famous people to talk about it.

By the time he made 'Life on Earth' in the early 1970s he was a legend, having made documentaries on location since the mid 50s.

It's a shame he won't get his letter from the Queen, but hopefully he makes it to 100 to get one from the King.

A friend of mine used to work on the BBC nature magazine so had semi regular contact with him. Not surprisingly he said he's just the same as he seems on nature programmes and interviews. Top bloke

I grew up watching David Attenborough's wildlife programmes and his brother Richard Attenborough ( the actor's ) movies.

Sir David is an international treasure. I grew up with his nature documentaries in the 90's and I really think world is a better place with him in it.

Attenborough's a living legend and a British national treasure. He's been a popular TV show host since the late 1950s - writing and researching his own material - and is still going strong at the age of 97. David's not just knighted, he's an OM (order of Merit) and CH (Companion of Honour), two very restricted orders of chivalry restricted to only about 30 people each. My dad met him on a plane to West Africa in the early 1960s and showed him around Lagos.

He has an entire research ship named after him - RRS Sir David Attenborough. I was at the naming ceremony when i met him, makes my heart melt he is such a lovely man.

He is a great friend of the Royal Family as he has the same ideals as them for the planet and wildlife. We were all brought up with him in our lives and avidly watched anything he was in.

When i was a kid and Life on earth was on TV from start to finish i never took my eyes off the screen the man's a legend.

David Attenborough is highly successful and a national treasure, as was his brother Sir Richard Attenborough, who was a well known and successful actor,/director staring in some classic fils such as, Jurassic Park, Brighton Rock and 10 Rillington Place and directing Ghandi. I'm nearing 60 and I remember watching David Attenborough documentaries when I was a kid which were made years before I was born. An incredible man.

When you watch an Attenborough documentary don't miss the part at the end where they show how the filming was done. His crew are the world's best.

Sir David is an absolute gift to this planet. His contribution to conservation and raising awareness amongst the general public about our natural world can never be understated. A wonderful man and an absolute national treasure. I count myself so lucky to have been able to grow up watching his documentaries, some of the best memories of my childhood.

The Gorilla clip is brilliant and iconic. Though I was surprised they didn't include the clip of a bird mimicking things such as car alarms.

Back in 1982 when I was a kid I collected autographs. I wrote to Sir David asking if he could send me a signed photo. A week later I got a response from him. He sent me a personal letter in the most beautiful handwriting where he apologised for not having any photos to send me, but asked if this letter was good enough. I already loved him and that he would take time out to write to me just cemented his place in my heart. An absolute gentleman and legend.

He also ran half of BBC TV for many years - a man of many talents - a true legend.

The amazing quality of Sir David Attenborough's many wildlife documentaries is incredible. Many have been filmed in full 4k, even before 4k TVs were widely available and the quality of the photography is jaw dropping. Sir David and the specialist natural history unit team at the BBC go to extraordinary lengths to capture incredible scenes in exquisite detail. He along with King Charles III when he was Prince of Wales were among the very first in the world to champion the protection of wildlife and habitats. His Knighthood is very well deserved.

Not sure if you know that David also had a very famous older brother, the celebrated English movie actor and director Richard Attenborough, who passed away in 2014, aged 90 years.Richard Attenborough had many theatrical, TV and movie roles in a long acting career, though he is probably best known today for his appearances in The Great Escape and Spielberg's Jurassic Park. He is also well known for his successful directorial career, with his most famous productions being the epic movies Ghandi and A Bridge Too Far. What a talented pair the Attenborough brothers were.

I dare say that outside of the UK, noobe would have a clue how revered he is. Not just his documentaries, but his time as controller at bbc2, colour TV, several hit shows that he commissioned, starting great careers for others, improvements to filming techniques and qualities. His entire lifetime contains amazing and ground-breaking moments and decisions. The guy is more than legend, he is a world-wide Demi-God.

I grew up with Sir David Attenborough. As an animal lover, he was my hero as for many other Brits. So many afternoons watching his films and much laughter too.

I think he started in the 50s when he was in the team of an animal program but the regular guy couldn’t do it so they got David to step in being a naturalist for the team and was so successful the rest is history !!! He went all over the world for the filming of possibly all the shows he stared in. There were not only animals, birds, fish, plants and the natural world in general, he has become a national treasure and he didn’t force anything he just was, so natural!

Sir David Attenborough isn't just a British national treasure, he is an icon, a legend and every great name you could call someone, he made a massively successful career from his hobby of being a naturalist when he was young, he is absolutely amazing, and if there's something about the natural world that he doesn't know about, then it's simply not worth knowing. Being 97 now, there can't be too long left of his life, it will be a very sad day when he passes away but hopefully he will live to be at least 100 years of age

I think that this must be one of your best reaction videos you've made. Sir David Attenborough, who's brother was the actor / director Richard Attenborough (Jurassic Park, Gandhi, etc,) , first appeared on UK TV when the BBC was one of the few channels available for us to watch so he quickly became a household name. I think at the time any presenter would need to be an expert in the type of programs they appeared on and would be expected to go out into the field when filming. With Sir David being so good and knowledgeable at what he does is why he's still the number one at wild life shows and is so loved in the UK. I also think that now he's 97, and although still clearly capable, he is probably doing more narration than being out actually in the field. It is also worth watching the Mountain Gorillas "Life on Earth" episode in full if you can, it is amazing.

Sir David is well known and loved around the world. Many of us have adored his life works and grew up watching him educate us. I'm 69 years old, and his work spans more than my whole life. Maybe only people in the United States of America are unaware.

When people ask that question," if you could invite anyone in the world to dinner, who would you choose?" - Sir David is always and forever my No. 1 choice. ❤

I used to watch nothing other than David Attenborough documentarys and when he came to Glastonbury and talked on the pyramid stage it was one of the only times that I was there the whole day just so i could see him up close (or closer than being at the top of the field at least)

I watched David Attenborough (along with some other naturalists as Jacques Cousteau, Armand & Michaela Denis and Hans & Lotte Hass) effectively invent the art of TV wildlife filming in the 1950s as he travelled to places like West Africa and Komodo in Indonesia to film animals in their natural habitat. He has been going strong ever since, even spending a few years as Head of the BBC along the way. A true legend. If the position of President of the World existed, he would have held it!

We, Brits, have many national treasures. Sir David is one of them. We appreciate our talents and especially as they age. 🥰

I'm British and I'm an animal behaviourist and trainer , just started my masters in animal behaviour and welfare too. Sir David Attenborough is without a doubt one of the reasons I went into this field, and many people who are in this field. I remember watching his documentaries my whole life and still whenever I'm feeling ill or down I'll put on life of mammals or blue planet or the hunt or any one of his documentaries. I am absolutely dreaded him no longer being here, immortality for this man if there was a choice

He's one of our greatest heroes, and greatest ambassadors. He is decent and fair. He has, nevertheless, the quintessential British sense of humour. He has devoted his life to educating the public in natural history and science.....so important in these times. Yes, we love and admire him. He is also incredibly modest. 🤗🇬🇧

David Attenborough is loved by the whole nation. He is an excellent presenter of the natural history programmes. Not only is he loved but his programmes are excellent in presentation and content. We know when a series is soon to be presented we must put time aside because the whole nation will be watching too. I used to have a bunch of his stuff on dvd when I was little and would fall asleep to his narration. He has such a calming voice. Nowadays, if I'm watching a nature documentary I get a bit surprised if he isn't doing the narration 😅

Sir David has most likely been the most prolific scientist in the modern world. He has contributed so much to the scientific community, possibly the most ever. One of the most wonderful experiences of my entire life was a midnight wolf howl. I live in Canada and my howl took place in Northern Ontario but not too far from humanity. We took a wonderful horse-drawn sleigh ride through the snowy woods and responded to the almost continuous wolf howls. They responded to our howls too, which was absolutely thrilling I highly recommend you try this experience at least once in your life.
