Actually, if you kept that attitude up, your parents would be getting a letter from the school. A meeting would take place. Questions regarding your attitude would be brought up. It could possibly be recommended, that at home, maybe, as a family, you should sit down together and have a chat as to whether you would really like to continue at that school or, if you'd feel happier at another school. One thing is for sure! They don't take 'Back-chat". So it's the school's way or the highway.

When kids are at school in the UK they're under what's called 'in Loco Parentis' which is ingrained in English Common Law. What it means is that when pupils are at school, teachers have some of the responsibilities of a parent and that they can discipline the children and allows them to act in the best interest of a child as they see fit, as long as they're not violating one of the students' human rights. So when you say 'you're not my Dad' lol, from 09:00 until 15:00 they are yo' Dad 🤣

It's not segregated, there are just a lot of different ethnicities in this area of Yorkshire, especially from India and Pakistan. Parents can send their kids to a choice of school within the area they live in, if there are spaces available. Also, this school is so nice compared to the one I went to, honestly I'm still traumatized by my experience of High School in England, (I got badly bullied for being Irish).

Being shouted at by teachers is so common in the UK and it’s funny when one of your mates is getting shouted at 😂 generally keeps kids in some type of order though. kids don’t always have authority figures at home, school is to learn education and life skills 🤓 also we have uniforms in the UK we don’t wear our own clothes to school. Lots of perks to that including reduction in bullying. (No one gets made fun of for their clothes or labels etc.. they all wear the same)

Yet in the UK when was the last time you heard of school massacre. Our schools have discipline this is where in real life you learn consequences in real life a respect for our police and elders and other authority figures and how to deal with situations of conflict and mutual respect for those who we have differences with. Tattle taling is an Americanism and again by going to a person of authority settles the problem in school and NOT on the street again something that needs to be learned.

The ages that the show focuses on tend to be the most difficult for teachers to deal with. Kids still have the impulse to act up and misbehave whilst also beginning to explore more adult issues like relationships and alcohol/smoking/drugs etc for the first time. Then you have the toxic result of children behaving like they think adults behave (doing whatever they want without discipline) whilst knowing almost nothing about the real world consequences. Teachers are (mostly) an amazing group of people.

You don’t get extra points on assignments the same way your system works, you get the grade for the essay or you don’t, our teachers don’t mark our assessed work it’s done by a separate organisation so a teacher can’t be nice and bump you up a grade. You pass on the merit of your work or you don’t And yes, shouting is completely normal, often deserved though in hindsight, depends on the school and teachers. It’s not like they only shout or shout all the time but sometimes it’s necessary as a last resort. The shouting you saw in the video was a clip with no context, we don’t know any of the reasons around what happened so probably best not to make assumptions in those cases

i watched this whole series. it was brilliant. one teacher became very ill, but he was preparing kids for exams, so he kept on teaching. it nearly cost him his life. one boy stammered so much, he couldn't talk. a teacher found a way to help him. he got him to listen to music, on head phones, while talking. it worked. after a while, he made a speech, to the whole school. teachers and students were in tears. you think this school is tough? it's easy street, compared to when i was in school, when teachers would beat you with a stick, for trivial misdemeanors. oh, and there's no segregation here, but we have a lot of immigrants in the poorer areas. this school is in a poor area

My mum still laments the lack of discipline in modern schools. I suppose it's true. She was 'educated' by nuns, who were pretty savage. By the time my brother started comprehensive in 1974 the worst thing was avoiding having blackboard eraser thrown at your head. Mind you, first day there he had his head stuck down the toilet...

I was bullied at school for 3 years (age 13-16) and I took the attitude towards it that I'm not going to give any of them the satisfaction of breaking me. And to me them "breaking me" was me reacting to them so I internalised it. They didn't break me and I'm proud of that, I know that doesn't work for everyone but I'm a stubborn bugger and strong willed and it's stood me in good stead as an adult.

I spent 35 years working in Inner-city British schools. This one is nothing exceptional. When I started it was legal fior children to be physically punished. There were older teachers when I started who were known fior punching parents who complained about them hitting their children. It was brutal.. It was often fun, too.

In response to when you said ‘some people don’t have a lot of clothes’- UK schools have uniform and there are uniform grants for people on a low income to help them to afford it. Pastoral staff (head of Y7, 8, 9 etc.) normally have spare uniform too (all brand new) for kids who are desperate ☺️

@@stevefrost64 had some teachers who were demons with a bit of chalk, they'd gone of chucking board erasers at my school as they'd had a kid needing stitches in the past. I think the two most memorable ones, both in a science lab was one teacher chasing a kid until he dived into a gap between cupboards under a lab desk, the teacher got him out by setting off a fire extinguisher at him. The other lab one was where a teacher lost it and hurled one of those tall lab stools halfway across the room, luckily the kid managed to catch it.
