I've been informed (thanks lu!) that Nemo uses they/them pronouns. Unfortunately, I didn't know that going in and used the incorrect pronouns throughout the video. Honest mistake but apologies nonetheless.

Of course, I can't talk for Nemo but they said, they aren't so strict about it. Like me, I appreciate when people try and make mistakes, I don't mind when people don't know. If people purposely use she/her in a mocking way, I walk away or stop watching.

he is not tired it is an act, when he starts the song he acts how hard it was to climb to be who he is now... the story is about fighting to find balance, and the platform is a metaphor for his struggles to find his identity, that's why at the end he controls the platform because he found his kingdom come and is now in control of his life, and the reason song has so many diverse parts from opera to rap is because the message is we don't have to settle to just be one binary thing a metaphor for sexuality ... also everything is sung live in Eurovision... no Milli Vanilli here it is a singing competition and everything has to be sung live!

The song tells Nemo's life/journey. As a kid they sang opera (first role Papageno - that's why there is the Queen of the Night), musical (the beginning), then at 15 Nemo slayed at the Swiss rap battle Cypher and released some rap songs. From 16 to 19 Nemo had success with rap/pop songs. Won 5 Swiss Music Awards, 4 in one night. All in Swiss German. Then Nemo kind of disappeared, moved to Berlin. Then last November they came out as non-binary. First songs: channel bakaramusic, playlist Nemo, on Spotify "Nemo (CH)" New songs in English: channel nemothings, on Spotify just "Nemo"

i really liked how attentive and not prejudiced you were. thank you so much for this reaction. as someone already mentioned: nemo is a classical trained singer. they worked in musicals for theaters in switzerland when they were younger (since they were 9 until around they were 14-15 years old) before deciding to go for writing and producing original songs, but you can clearly hear and see how much this background influenced them and they also recognize it themselves. if you want to hear more of nemo singing in their low range, which is honestly so impressive, there is a swiss-german cover they did for a swiss show. here’s the link: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/otCBe8KiqNyZf4E.htmlsi=jJtmpii3TvxEJFpz

Also, I realized audiences really notice it when an artist relies heavily on backing vocals for most of this show. They don't get past the semis. They'd rather hear the singers on a bad day than listen to someone singing over.

Since 2021 Eurovision started allowing pre-recorded backing vocals. The main vocals have to be live, but in some cases the backing vocals have been very generous (in the past they often had extra live singers on/besides the stage though).

I think that this year, the sound mixing was so well done that it was hard to tell someone was singing live, until you heard them; breathing, become pitchy or deviate from the original studio track. Swedish production is clean as hell, at the moment.

And Nemo was in fact singing live, but they "blocked" most of the breathing for this performance, because they were running and jumping and all that and that shows how the sound people were good and thought of everything this year.

I just found yet another layer: Nemo (the cartoon fish) is a clownfish. Clownfish are known to be able to change sex under certain circumstances. So even the artist’s name has meaning 🙂

Nemo has been a skateboarder forever. And I'm pretty sure they appreciate your reaction. Nemo seems to like to connect with people, share music, make art. Nemo has been saying for years now (they were famous here in Switzerland at the age of 16), that the only goal is to live from music. As a performer songwriter or producer. And that's what Nemo does. Nemo's goal is not to be famous. It's to make art and share it.

15:50 I have a hunch that growing up in Switzerland helped, because as a skateboarder, Nemo is almost certainly also a snowboarder - and that stance on the turntable thing here is practically identical to the most basic stance in snowboarding.

Hey Andrew, loved your reaction. I recommend also reacting to the runner-up Croatia, 4th placed France, and 6th placed Ireland :). Croatia was the winner of the public vote and a very fun, crazy watch. France came 2nd in the juries and has a very very powerful voice. Ireland’s is just classic batshit crazy Eurovision.

Great analysis to Nemo’s song! The point of view from a professional singer / songwriter is giving me a lot. Many reactions focus on other aspects like Nemo being non-binary, which is actually what the song is about. But besides this topic, the song itself is already a very well structured collage of different music genres, that work surprisingly well together. And Nemo’s vocal performance in Malmö was really flawless - as it has always been before. The staging however didn’t really convince me and Nemo’s costume was actually second, but maybe not best choice. In the music video song and setting worked together in a smoother way, imo. But the win for Nemo was really deserved and I’m more than happy, that I will be able to see Nemo performing tomorrow night live at Zurich pride festival.

This year was a gar at year at ESC. France, a great voice. Irland, what a Performance Norway, fun for for Croatia, wow Great Britain, interesting Performance for a typical Song. Ukraine, always great. But Nemo won for Performance and the Song with great lyriks.

May i also recomend reactions to runners up Croatia, third place Ukraine and sixth placed Ireland. France is very good too, Greece very musically distinctive as is the Netherlands and Armenia just a load of ethic fun. Despite all of the shit this year, mostly because of a certain genocidal nation, there have been a lot of epically great songs in a lot of different styles and you'll have a blast listening too or at least find interesting.

Very nice video, very melodic bass 😊. But here's some advice: 1. You could do some homework before you react, like looking into the basics like the lyrics and the artist's pronouns. It will help you understand the act a little bit better (especially when it comes to Eurovision, which is a special kind of madhouse in itself, which, of course, is an absolutely wonderful thing). 2. If a drawer breaks, you don't buy a new desk. You _fix_ it. Surely you can borrow some tools from a friend or even rent them for a weekend. I don't know what it is that broke so I can't give you any carpentry advice, but if you go to the hardware store they can help you. Your drawer isn't the first one to break, and they will probably know how to fix it (don't forget to either bring the drawer or take some photos, it's such a hassle to come home and find out that you bought the wrong screws after all). But it's absurd to get rid of the whole desk because one drawer broke. Remember, only one planet, man.
