American Reacts to Fawlty Towers I Know Nothing
In this video I react a clip from the show Fawlty Towers that starred John Cleese. Fortunately and then unfortunately a member of his staff knew nothing of the bet he placed on a horse or the money involved.

Fawlty Towers is the funniest comedy series ever produced in the U.K. in my opinion. Every single episode is a classic in its own right. The cast are simply perfect for the show. You’ll make a lot of people happy if you can react to several of these gems. Best wishes 👍

Still recall sitting on my chair crying with laughter at the scene with Basil in Mrs Richards room doing the “What were you expecting to see out of a Torquay bedroom window …..” line. You def need to watch entire episodes of Fawlty Towers these shows were beautifully crafted in a manner that gave it layers delicately placed on top of each other making each scene more farcical than the previous. Most other sitcoms built to one big gag at the end but this always felt like it had more substance. You probably won't be able to showcase them on youtube because of copyright but for your own personal enjoyment, I highly recommend there are only 12 episodes so you can easily binge-watch the lot of them on a weekend.

That's British TV gold you've got there. That line I know nothing is the one I've impersonated many times in that Spanish accent of his.

The actor, Andrew Sachs, who plays the waiter was actually German. When he was asked to play a Spanish waiter he asked if the waiter instead could be German, but John Cleese said no. Sadly he (Andrew) died a couple of years ago.

Andrew Sachs was a beloved, highly talented British actor. In real life he spoke with a warm gentlemanly English accent. When he played Manuel in Falty Towers, he I believe didn't speak any Spanish but he played the character so well, as a young kid, I thought he was Spanish at first. Everything about Faulty Towers was just perfect, in my opinion but Manuel would make me laugh until I cried!

Faulty towers was sublimely hilarious in the 70s and still holds out today. It’s a fantastic poke at English eccentricity and snobbishness. Andrew Sachs who played Manuel was fabulous and John Cleese was his usual manic perfection.

Andrew Sachs was a very cultivated, polite and charming gentleman. Raised in Germany, and escaped from Hitler in his childhood. I remember that in the old days he used to teach Brits German on BBC radio. I used to listen to his classes. A proper gentleman, loved hugely by the Brits.

The guy who played Manuel (the Spanish waiter) was born in Berlin, Germany, but spent a lot of time in England. I actually thought he was British as his accent was impeccable. He died in 2016 aged 86.

The whole episode is masterpiece. Basil (to Sybil) : pity you didn’t let me put something on, really. You realise how much we would’ve won? £75 for a £5 stake. Still, you know best. 😂😂😂 Despite lying and actually backing the horse, Basil STILL couldn’t resist the opportunity to score a point against Sybil. Beautifully petty.

One of the best running jokes is how the Hotel name changes for every episode, from Fawlty Towers to Farty Towels and Flowery Twats. They sometimes use the entire episode to set up the punchline so it's best not to just watch a short segment.

The late, great Andrew Sachs. We still use this phrase with the attempt at the accent at work if someone asked us a question that we don't know the answer. The older people laugh, the younger people look confused and we then have to explain and tell them to go watch the show.

The line "Aaii noouw noz-ziingg" has become a meme in the UK and in most of the rest of Europe ( where the brilliant FT comedy series has aired multiple times as well - at least 10 times on TV here in Denmark for instance ) because of this gem of an episode 😂 You really need to watch the whole episode to get the context - it's pure comedy gold! 😂 And yes, please do watch all 12 episodes of the two seasons of the classic FT series - they are all hilarious and extremely well written, especially once you get to appreciate Basil Fawlty's British sarcasm and irony - saying rude things out loud that we can only dream of saying to annoying people ... such as hotel guests 😂 All in all Basil's life would be much better, if his small hotel didn't have any guests at all - and he didn't have his constantly nagging and somewhat lazy wife, who never wants to see his point of view. The Spanish waiter Manuel is played by Andrew Sachs.
