He only promoted his Australianess once Paul Hogan made it cool, before that he never did anything to promote Australian or even publicise his Australianess and actively hide his Australian origins. You are too young to remeber but noe one knew were Australia was in the 50'/60's and even if they did, we had no cultural identity so I can see why he would not have advertised it.

That children's choir is the Qantas choir. Children from every part of the country, including very remote locations compete for the honor of being in that choir and being seen by millions. The song was written by my cousin, the great Peter Allen, husband of Liza Minelli, Oscar winner for the best song Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do) of the 1981 film Arthur, writer and singer of the #1 hit I Go To Rio, he wrote songs for artists like Dusty Springfield and Frank Sinatra. I Still Call Australia Home was written on one of his long periods mostly in the US. As much as he was an international star, he missed Australia, and his hometown of Tenterfield. Probably his greatest song is Tenterfield Saddler, his personal journey, with a father who committed suicide after coming back from war, and his grandfather (the saddler) who became his de facto father, and eventually marrying the 'girl with the funny face' (Minelli). The song brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it, and likewise I Still Call Australia Home can also bring tears, even to those who are not Australian. That is the power of a great song writer. The history part in the song: You may not realize that Qantas is the oldest continuously operating airline in the world. KLM is a few months older, but ceased operations during World War II. Avianca was also a few months older than Qantas, but very sadly went bankrupt in 2020. Qantas started as an airline in 1920 and they show early Qantas flights projected against their original hangar in Winton, Queensland. Qantas was the driving force behind the introduction of a lot of safety innovations, including Australian inventions like the cockpit voice recorder (black box) for commercial aircraft, and the inflatable emergency evacuation slides used on every large commercial airliner. Qantas is one of the few airlines in the world to have never killed a passenger in the jet airliner era, and the only one that was flying jets from their earliest days. There is a lot of pride and history in the Flying Kangaroo.

@@ballantynemoyes8019 Sadly Avianca went bankrupt in 2020.. I was their second bankruptcy (the first back in the early 2000's), however Avianca first flew in 1940. It was the result of the merger of two older airlines, SACO, founded in 1933, and SCADTA which had been founded a few months before Qantas, in 1919. The name Avianca did not exist prior to 1940. It is usually said that Avianca was founded in 1919, but only if counting from the founding of one of its merger predecessors, and they have not been able to operate continuously due to unfortunate bankruptcies.

Qantas have used this song for a number of years, every couple of years they make an epic ad that pulls at the heartstrings. This years was delayed due to COVID and hits harder as the shut down has isolated many people around the world who haven’t been able to travel home, or from people visiting loved ones overseas. We are a multicultural country with levels high immigration so we travel a lot despite how far away we are from a lot of the world. It’s cheesy to be emotional over an ad, but the song is amazing, the performers are perfect and while we love our country it occasionally takes something like this to remind us how awesome this place is to come home to.

Only parts of Ayers Rock AKA Uluru are sacred, thus they there is a small designated "men's business only" area whilst "women's business" area is much larger but again only certain parts. Hi Ryan! Great to see you reacting to this song/ad! QANTAS is actually an acronym - it stands for Queensland And Northern Territory Aerial Service, named after its original route between the Australian state of Queensland, and the state (territory) of Northern Territory. It's actually the oldest commercial airline in the English-speaking world, and the second oldest around-the-world airline service. It's still the main airline in Australia, and famously recognisable by the red tail with the kangaroo (which you can see from the ground, even when the aircraft is really high up). :)

It somewhat surprised me to hear the comments from the U.S. When it came to this song, the fact that this song is going back a long long way, the man who wrote it and sung it spent a good part of his life in the U.S., he was married for a time to Judy Garlands daughter Liza. His name was Peter Allen. This add has i think put all the meaning into the song by what it shows and the knowledge that it is a country so far removed from everyone else. I made the move here in 1990 so have lived here a while now, as someone involved in music for a good part of my life, music to me is an imotion, you feel it as well as hear it, if its good, really good, it moves you to tears, and believe me, it does just that for me, it says everything about this huge country and believe me, it is huge! I am a citizen of Australia and this song really should be the national athem of this great country bacause the words of the song tells the story of so many people like me that came here, and stayed here. The man who wrote it, did so from the heart, and i am sure had many of the pictures in his mind of this place as he put pen to paper, and after all these years it is bought back to life by the means of transport to this great land, For those who find a tug at the heart strings with this song should try listening to another song he wrote, about himself to a degree, its called Tenerfield Saddler, just listen to the words, tgey are just as moving.

Ayres Rock as it was known it’s now known as Uluṟu, the Aboriginal name for it, second one was Kangaroos in the outback! Yes it was all shot around Australia 🇦🇺! The pink colour is from an algae that grows! Qantas is the letters of Queensland and Northern Territory Arial Service!

Qantas doesn’t have a ‘u’ after the ‘q’ because it is an acronym for Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Service. It’s our national airline with the best safety record in the world. No Qantas plane has ever crashed. It was founded on the 16th November 1920. The late Peter Allen wrote the song and now the song is synonymous with Qantas.

'No Qantas plane has ever crashed.' Not correct, I'm afraid. No QANTAS jet plane has ever crashed, however. The last fatality was in 1951.

Qantas is one of the longest running airlines in the world, started in 1926 by a couple of ex fighter pilots from WW1 and has never had a major accident. If I had to choose to fly anywhere in the world I would pick QANTAS. Edit: And yeah sorry there is no U after the Q as it started as the Queensland And Northern Territory Air Service so by abbreviating the name it became QANTAS. So no U after the Q lol!

Ryan, today i'll be opening my radio music show with this version of 'I Still Call Australia Home' (as I do every anniversary in tribute to Australia Day) and it was a lovely buzz watching you react to it. This song never fails to move us Aussie's. I love all your reaction videos Ryan. Yes I agree regarding children's choirs. They're the most touching. (in case you didnt recognise or know the female singer at the piano - it's Australia's beloved legend and 'sister', Kylie Minogue, who currently has a residency at 'The Venetian Resort Las Vegas'. You always show such great respect and appreciation for our culture and Country. Many thanks. I'll keep tuning in. aj x

Qantas is an airline, it is an acronym for Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Sercive. In about the year 2000, they did an ad using the same song and children's chiors from all over the country. This ad came out as Australia was opening back up after covid restrictions were being lifted, so it was quite emotional when it was first released.

This song makes me SO PROUD to be an Australian. We are one of the oldest countrites on earth, as evidenced by our aboriginal heritage, but one of the youngest according to western history. The beauty of Australia is not only in the natural blessings that God bestoyed on us, but of the freedom that we have to be who we want to be. Our multi-culturism is beyond reproach. All that we ask is that new citizens endeavour to leave past hatreds at the gate as they become Australian citizens. I have been a teacher for many years and I think the most important thing that I have ever taught my students was to value the freedom, embrace the differences and treasure what it is to be an Australian. Thank you for sharing, what is to me, a song which holds the most special place in my heart. I am one of the many PROUD AUSTRALIANS.

A small detail is that the school choir is singing under a sign saying 'longreach' which is a town in outback Queensland, and the name that QANTAS gave the 747-400 class of planes that was - for a very long time - the planes that would bring you home to Australia when you were overseas.
