Christianity arrived in Britain ‘in the last year of Tiberius’ - 35-37 a,d. Cornwall claims first landfall. Subsequently, Joseph was granted 12 hides of land in South Wales - the remains of the first church building, dedicated to St Peter, are still discernible. At this time, there was no such place as ‘England’ - Lloegr… comprised a much smaller area than modern England. Christianity was taken to Rome circa 52 a.d., by King Caradoc, son of ‘Bran the Blessed’. Later, Bran, together with other members of his family joined Caradoc in Rome. Timothy 2 : 4 : 21 - Linus, son of Caradoc, became first bishop of Rome. ‘Claudia’ took this name on her adoption by Claudius and marriage to Rufus Pudens. She was natural daughter of Caradoc, Eurgain, known to the Britons by her title, Gwladys (‘top countrywoman’).

I hate when others try to change Our Heritage.. the good, the bad and the ugly Centuries to build what we had and decades for the tearing down of it, because History upsets some of the beings in this modern world. History needs to be taught and understood because the beings offended by it are doomed to make the same mistakes, over and over again... Having this as our unofficial anthem makes the heart swell.

William Blake wrote this based upon the account that Joseph of Arimathea travelled to England with Jesus before Jesus began his ministry. It is quite plausible that Joseph of Arimathea did travel here as he was a merchant and at the time people in the Holy Land and thereabouts got tin from tin mines in Cornwall. The legend is that Joseph of A and Jesus travelled to Glastonbury. The myths about this are consistent and stem from an early time so who knows maybe it is true. I like to hope so.

its a load of rubbish look at the evidence, and i am a proud Englishman.
@martinbynion1589Ай бұрын
There's no evidence whatsoever for this cadswallop. I'm English and it's a great tune, but the basis for the song is drivel.
@jackethangs5570Ай бұрын
@@martinbynion1589 Given that the first verse is simply asking the question (of a then more pious nation) rather than asserting it as truth means it isn't drivel - I wouldn't even say it's begging the question as it makes no assumption that Jesus did walk here. It's just like asking what if King Arthur and his virtues were real. IF...if this were true, how do we (as in the people of Blake's time) measure up to Jesus' teachings in how we treat pretty much everyone who isn't rich or 'high born'. The second verse speaks for itself.
@JJ-of1irАй бұрын
@@tomhirons7475 ... and yet these islands were written about by the Ancient Civilisations of Greece and Rome, Babylonia, and so on. They described England as the Centre of the Spiritual World, a place of Culture and Learning known throughout the Roman World, a place of exquisite artistic achievement far in advance of anything produced in Rome and a courteous, civilised people that traded fairly with many lands, including Palestine, Egypt, Greece and the Western Mediterranean ports - for hundreds of years (if not more) before the Romans came. I understand Colchester Museum has an exhibit - or did have - about how this ancient trade was accomplished. Cornwall was famous for producing the finest quality of tin since the days of the Phoenicians and Cathaginians who travelled to these shores for centuries or more before Christ. Mary and the young Jesus went to live with her wealthy uncle, Joseph of Arimathea, when her husband died. Joseph of Arimathea travelled to the South West of England regularly to purchase metals from England on behalf of Roman Empire often accompanied by a boy, thought to be Jesus his great nephew. The trouble with your argument is that there IS evidence - in the British Museum, Jesus College, Cambridge, the Vatican in Rome and in various ancient texts and manuscripts from around the Ancient World. When rumours began circulating about Jesus rising from the dead, Joseph knew he would have to flee. As a relative he had claimed Jesus' body from Pontius Pilate and had placed his great nephew in Joseph's own Tomb, had hidden the identity of Jesus from his own Community and the Romans while Jesus was growing up etc etc. Anyway, if you are still reading this, I won't bore you with all the details about how he was supported by our Ancient King, built, with his followers, the first Christian Church 'above ground' in the World, but I will tell you that the death of Joseph of A, in the South West of England, was recorded and written about in an Ancient Babylonian 'Historia de Ravus Britanicus' and actually described his resting place - beside the church he and his followers had built called The Oratory.

We aren’t allowed anymore and it saddens so many of us. Thank you for your kind words and support, it’s not politically correct in England anymore to be proud of our country or culture, if we stand up and say anything we are branded as racist which we are not. We love and accept every other culture but are frowned upon flying our flag. We celebrate practically every other countries national holiday, including the 4th of July. Yet St George’s Day is almost forgotten now, it’s very depressing and I blame our current and former governments

Hi Island girl This song is based on Jesus's lost yrs when he was supposed to have come to England when he was a child with his Uncle Joseph of Arimathea. Joseph was a tin trader and the known worlds best tin came from the south West of England in Cornwall. So Joseph made many trips to the south West of England. Jesus is supposed to have set his feet on english fields many times when he was brought here by his Uncle hence the line -: did these feet in ancient times walk among England's mountains green and was the holy lamb of god on England's pleasant pastures seen ...... . There is a place in England now called Glastonbury it's former name was Avalon in ancient times there is also an Avalon in the holy lands too. There was a church supposedly built by jesus himself in ancient Avalon now Glastonbury too Your words about my nation of birth are so heartfelt and said with so much meaning it's so refreshing to hear unfortunately a lot of PC people are ruining my birth nation because of ignorance and hate. Our politicians don't seem to care though. We as a people need to stand proud and strong and defend our culture and heritage aswell as preserve this truly fantastic nation that gave the world so much. The full Brits still are very proud of this nation too but have effectively been told we can't be by the pc brigade If you really.want to.check out a excellent piece of music then check out I Vow to thee my Country it will blow your mind for British Patriotism

"God Save the King" is the national anthem of the United Kingdom. "Jerusalem" is the de facto national anthem of England. Much better than "Landof Hope and Glory"because it is far more spiritual and much more aspirational of the better things that can be done, if we have the will. See also the legendofJoseph of Arimathea, given in one of the comments below.

Racism in this case is just a dirty word some ppl have put on anything thats Christian and patriotic in order to silence the majority same with the St George's flag. That's not racist either. It's the Christian Cross and Saint George that offends. It's Christianity that offends them. The word racism as been abused by some with their own agendas. Nothing racist about this song or the flag. Everything wrong with your accusation though.
