Unfortunately live performances in South Korea are really like that... all of them. They are polished, as perfect as possible, and super clean... safe. You don't get raw and real in Kpop. Maybe 2NE1's concerts are an exception, and Mamamoo. Probably the only groups who do actual live performances and hyping up. Le Sserafim dared to perform at Coachella without a backtrack, and still hitting the choreo, but all the imperfections could be heard, and Kpop fans went CRAZY. Months after, they are still being hated on, when I personally LOVED how raw and hyped and real it sounded. It's so sad! But we either get used to it, or just give up on Kpop. No other way... live performances will always mean loud backtracks behind the real voices and vocal smoothers in the mics. Plus, post production heavy editing.

what kpop groups do is after releasing a song they’ll go on these music shows which are held weekly and theres six held on different days (the show, show champion, mcountdown, music bank, music core, inkigayo) for 1-4 weeks performing the song along with other artists promoting at the same time and they’ll just perform “perfectly” often lypsyncing and prerecording. the performances are meant to be simple just showcasing the songs they’re promoting and in front of a small audience who come to watch the whole show. at award shows which are like the kpop/asia versions of grammys and vmas etc they’ll perform with remixed choreo and music most of the time and interact more with the audience, as well they’ll often sing live with a backing track however for a lot of groups the backing track will be very loud and they may have heavy autotune/pitch correction. at concerts and festivals(mainly university festivals) their performances are more raw.

Kiss of life is one of the small number of groups that can actually sing live despite debuting less than a year ago, they perform like seniors, and they have one of the best vocalists of their generation of kpop (yes there’s generations in kpop, we are currently in the 5th gen), unfortunately some of these music shows (inkigayo, music core, etc) just don’t allow idols to perform live, but i still recommend to listen to their university performances, award shows, etc. When they are allowed to, they sing amazingly

The mechanized, going thru the motions is something you will see through all Korean music shows. If you want to see a live, unfiltered performance you can look at kpop idols performing at Korean Universities, concerts, or sometimes award shows. There are also kpop idols who have sung at Coachella and Lollapollaza who sing live there too. Blackpink’s Coachella performance is what I would absolutely recommend watching. 👏

N.Flying is another vocal oriented group. “Rooftop” is their most popular song and my personal favorite. It has that “kpop feel” to it so you might like it. I feel like people have been recommending you too many rap songs😂 even though they’re not ur personal taste. Anyways, I think you focus on more vocal heavy groups such as kids of life, n.flying, red velvet, etc. stray kids songs are usually a hit or miss.

those promotional performances are made to look perfect thats why there's this heavy usage of backtrack n everything. interactions w fans usually happen before and/or after the performance was shot and groups also get to have a more "fun" performance when they win the weekly music show. other than that groups usually interact w the crowd during their concerts or festivals

Kiss Of Life is a 4 member girl group made up of trainees from the big 3 entertainment agencies in Korea, Julie is the main rapper, she’s Korean-American from Hawaii and she was an ex-trainee from YG the black label (aka the company that made Blackpink) Natty is the main dancer. She’s Thai and an ex trainee JYP entertainment, she took part in a survival show SIXTEEN, which was the show that made Twice. But she was eliminated during the 11th episode and didn’t end up debuting as a part of Twice. Belle is the main vocalist, she has an incredible range (E3 to F5) and this is her whistle note at 7:37 and at 7:53, she’s Korean-American from Seattle, she was an ex-trainee for SM entertainment, she worked with other groups in making songs, she wrote unforgiven by LE SSERAFIM other songs for Miyeon and Purple Kiss, she also writes some of her own groups songs. Haneul is the lead vocalist and is the last member and the maknae ( youngest member), she was the only member to actually audition for the group! She was handpicked by the older members to join Kiss Of Life. They all have their solo songs, Sugarcoat by Natty is my personal favourite, Countdown by Belle, Play love games by Haneul and Kitty Cat by Julie. Kiof sings live 90% of the time they are famous for their vocal abilities. Music shows are meant for broadcast & promo for their song so its not interactive with the audience, are free to go too, they are there at like 5-6 am & they usually do practice runs then multiple takes which are then edited & broadcast. A lot of times theres loud backtrack & theres lots of idols who lip sync especially ones from big companies but the smaller companies usually dont. I reccomend their sixth sense cover, soundbomb 360 or mma award show stage. Also they just released a new song called ' Sticky' !!

ATEEZ is a group you should check out, they sing live for music shows! Sometimes the producers of the show will require them to do a backtrack or a pre-recorded version in which they lipsync to, but ATEEZ always has their mics ON!!!!! I never thought I’d get into Kpop but Ateez changed things for me and now my favorite groups are them, New Jeans, and Kiss of Life. Some great live performances from Ateez are Crazy Form, Bouncy, Work, Guerilla, their killing voice episode, or literally any one of their songs I’m so serious

Kpop works differently in that everytime a group drops a song they will perform on music shows nonstop (basically everyday) for 2-3 weeks straight with a bunch of promotional content filmed in between. After this, they may start singing live when the craziness dies down. Western singers, on the other hand, will only perform songs when invited/on tour (which is never as hectic as music show schedules) and they are able to perform live each time. There def are exceptions like some Kpop groups who will refuse to ever perform live because they just aren't that strong with it (cough cough LSF) but groups like Kiss of Life will sing quite a number of live stages to the point where I can hear Belle's voice getting strained near the end of the promotion. You just need to find them by adding "live stage" in your search line.

You'll probably hear more of their vocals in a making of a song video or through the channel "it's live" where they perform with a band live. There's also Leemujin service on KZfaq that idols go on to sing various songs (I'd recommend Hanni's from New Jeans I have a cover playlist if anyone wants to check it out lol). Most music show performances they have the backing track louder than their mics.

Since you're such a fan of live performances you might wanna react to stray kids 2022 mama performance it's a ride ( no lip singing and it has those moments that makes feel their interaction with audience) I hope u enjoy it

the problem is you're watching music show performances, they're mainly for promotions and that's why they feel corporate. if you want real performances you should look for concerts and festivals, if you want raw vocals you should look either for their lives or for shows like lee mujin's

Kiss of Life sings live almost 70% of the time when the company/ music show will allow and they have performances where they just stand still and show their vocals :( not everyone can dance and sing perfectly but i promise kiss of life is one of the stable groups who can do both and Belle try’s her best to sing her high notes live but it can be very straining especially when she tries to value it more for ballads . Kiss of Life is really good at hiding their “singing” faces because hanuel is actually very stable and she has good facial expression while singing the live you chose was a music show which is supposed to be more dance focused and facial expression focused but they have done plenty of other videos where you can hear raw vocals voice cracks sweat , squinching faces when they do high notes

“live performances” arent really live performances. There is lip-synching, back-track over use, and live singing. In Kiof’s case they dont lip sync that much this was just one of the instances they did. Just know that if they’re bad at lip syncing then 90% of the time they are amazing singers (mamamoo and Nmixx as an example)

FYI, kpop has its own Gen and is now in Gen 5. Each Gen has the best kpop groups, and KIOF is a good GG in terms of vocals, performance, visuals, dance, etc. in Gen 5, in Gen 4 has Newjeans, G-idle, IVE, etc (I think). Edit: Bro please react IVE😭, especially their songs like I Am, After Like, Love Dive, Eleven, etc. If you like Ditto, you will like I Am because those 2 songs are the best songs and many agree on that🥲.

Yes most kpop groups do lip sinc in "live performances". It kinda became normal cus they are obsessed with being perfect . But there are some kpop groups that actually sing live, might use some backtrack but they for real. One of the groups are nmixx and mamamoo. Check them out if you like. ❤ And also some kpop groups can sing live. But theyre company just wont let them lmao....😂😂. So there are some instances that they are allowed to sing live, but it is very rare that they do.

In regards to your comment about crowd interactions and stuff, there's a different culture around korean music shows than live performances in the U.S. Music shows in korea like: Music bank Music core Inkigayo Show Champion Mcountdown Are run almost like award/competition shows if that makes sense? They're usually held once or twice a week, and they have kpop artists there who have just released new music. The physical album sales, digital album sales, and fan votes are calculated to make a score, then whichever artist has the highest score, wins a trophy. These shows are also broadcasted on Korean television, and they are a big deal when it comes to getting the general public’s attention. Its known that if you are not able to get on any of these music shows, you will very likely not succeed in the kpop industry. So these idols try to make the best impression possible, and look the best as possible on these shows. So you won’t see them interacting with the audience. The times where they actually will be kind of hyping up the audience is at actual award shows like: Golden disk award Melon Music Awards Mnet Asian music awards Asia Artist awards Seoul Music awards This is where there are usually longer performances of 10+ mins for smaller artists, but can be up to 45 or even 50 minutes for bigger artists, like BTS, Straykids, Or seventeen. Award shows often have more elaborate, thought out, and longer performances. If you want more engaging performances, I would look for award show performances. Regarding the lip syncing. Sadly, its very normalized, although not every kpop artist lip syncs. And if they do, its likely not all of the time. Sometimes the artist’s company will force them to lip sync, or the show that they are on forces them to. Its not always that the artist themself isnt talented enough to sing live. There are performances where kiss of life sing live. Such as the 33rd seoul music awards, and MMA 2023.
