Aha! There is one more movie.. It's called And Now For Something Completely Different. It's not a movie with a story really, more like a feature length sketch episode, where they remade some of their earlier work to release to the US market. They didn't change anything, it just looks better, and some sketches, such as How to defend yourself against fresh fruit, are even better. I mention this one in particular because it has Mr Cleese at full screaming madman capacity. It's a feature length episode of the show which gives you the full picture, and you'll see the transitions between sketches which are a big part of the flow, and also has the whacky animation that you've seen in the intros of the movies playa bigger part. Some sketches don't have an ending, so that General or Sgt. Major character is one that shows up every now and then when things get too silly.

As I said the other day, this aired very late on Sunday evening in the late 60s, just before close-down, on the 2nd BBC channel [ and there were only 3 channels, when you considered ITV !]. Most of the 'adults' had gone to bed, to do 'adult' things. It was different in TV & comedy terms in much the same way that Elvis & Little Richard & Jerry Lee must have been to music [ actually before even my time ]. The way sketches just segue into each other, with no introduction, or even just barge into each other was mind boggling & jaw dropping. Everything was just so 'off the wall', and without convention, that when Eric Idle says " ...and now frontal nudity ..." you honestly didn't know what to expect - and they just might have ...... 55 years and slightly more on, it starts to look a little tame, because so many have taken up the baton & run with it. But, its impact at the time, and the legacy cannot be denied.

John Cleese repeated the dead parrot sketch at graeme chapman’s funeral - except he referred to graeme chapman as ‘dead, deceased, fallen off ‘is perch’. Then he told everyone that graeme chapman was a ‘freeloading b.stard’, because - as he explained at the funeral - if he didnt say that, graeme chapman would be very disappointed with him. The speech is hilarious. If you havent seen Fawlty Towers, watch it with Queen Boomer. It stands the test of time. Its only 6 perfect episodes. And im pretty sure you will identify with the scene where Basil’s car breaks down! Oh, and pro-tip, keep your eyes out for the brief glimpses of the naughty schoolboys who repeatedly change the hotel sign across episodes. My favourite sign change is ‘Farty Towels’.

The guy who plays the pet shop owner, Michael Palin, subsequently travelled the world making documentaries about his journeys in his own inimitable and often witty style. For example he attempted to travel around the world in 80 days without flying, also travelling from the north pole to the south pole in as straight a line as possible, flying when only absolutely necessary; also attempting to visit every country that borders the Pacific Ocean. I think that it took him well over a year to finish that journey; and several other subsequent programmes of that nature were made too, eg travelling across the Sahara Desert, visiting North Korea etc. 👍👍👍

I think the Dead Parrot sketch will grow on you. I think it was Palin who wrote it, and he got the idea from his car mechanic. He noticed that no matter what went wrong with his car the mechanic would just say "Oh that's normal for that type of car". Even if he'd just bought it new and after three months the door fell off, the mechanic would say "Ah yes, that's what happens with that make. After three months the door drops off. Common fault with that car".

So if you want to see the best sketches in one go it may be a more suitable option than watching all the series or going through chopped up low quality sketches one by one and you'll probably be able to find the film on KZfaq or they also did a live stage show of the sketches in America which was recorded and put out on video that was called " Monty python live at the Hollywood bowl !

In 1988 the Liberal Democrats adopted an image of a flying bird as its new party logo. Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher made a speech in which she referred to the logo as a “dead parrot”, and she quoted a few lines from this sketch. Mrs Thatcher famously had no sense of humour, and she was of the earlier generation who were not familiar with popular culture references. Her speech-writing advisers showed her this sketch, and she didn’t get it. They had to do a lot of persuading to make her agree to having the reference in the speech.

"I wish there were more Monty Python movies"... I mean, there _are_ 45 episodes of Monty Python's Flying Circus, as well as the fantastic live show Monty Python Live At The Hollywood Bowl. Technically I suppose that And Now For Something Completely Different also qualifies as a movie of sorts, but since it is just a bunch of re-shot sketches from the TV show, you're probably better off just watching the TV show to be honest. There are a lot of brilliant sketches that you can't really just watch as a 5 minute clip, because they are thoroughly embedded in the episode they originated in. Often they are connected to the sketches before and after in ways that are lost when viewed in isolation. In some cases a sketch will stretch across an entire episode, being returned to multiple times.
