Living on a disability pension, I try saving as much as possible - I love the Odd Bunch fruit n vege at Woolies, coz it all tastes the same when it's come from the same farms. Curvy carrots are awesome when roasting a leg of lamb or a chook, because you can fit your spuds between the curl

We buy 2 bags a week. Our dog loves carrots more than anything as a treat. He is almost 15 now, nearly completely deaf, but still healthy and active. He gets a treat when he responds to hand signals. ( had to teach him that quickly when I realised he was losing his hearing)

Most magpies swoop from behind so it could be right, I started feeding a couple a few months ago at the beginning of nesting season, for the same reason…not to swoop me. Worked and they became quite friendly.

Yep, Magpies remember and they teach their young. I am a Greenkeeper and have heaps of experience with them. They can be the most aggressive birds and can also be the sweetest... if treated right, and their warble is great. And the eye contact will make them veer off course as it is used as a tactical when they have advantage.

Magpies are actually very smart and have been shown to remember peoples faces. They are also very aggressive during mating and baby season and will slice your ear or scalp open as they attack you again and again. I have been attacked many times and have become quite good at dodging them. Another nasty bird we have over here is the Plover, they are a little scary aswell. As far as staring at them goes..... I have never heard of that and I dont intend to be the one who finds out if its true or not.

I could have told you that without the photo's! When I lived in South Australia, the government put a bend in the highway just to break up the monotony of the drive. Some drivers would actually look forward to going around that bend. The SA government also put a zebra crossing in the middle of nowhere because the law at the time was that you HAD to stop at the crossing, regardless of pedestrians or not!

You can make friends with wild magpies and when you become good friends, (they trust you enough to perch on your arm), they will bring the rest of their family to meet you and bring you gifts! just saying thanks mate, Aussie animals are freaking cool (and a bit dangerous).

They also only swoop during nesting season. They are very protective of their nests. They have very good memories. If you are aggressive to them, they sure don't forget. Makes friends and they teach their babies you are a friend. No swooping!

@@dianacasey6002 I had the privilege at our previous house, of having Kookas nest in our tree. I became friends with them. Each year, for 7 years, they introduced their babies to me. Chicks learned the sound of my voice before leaving the nest, so were never afraid of me. Sometimes, when I was gardening, they would sit around in the trees or come down to "help". Lots of worms in the soil. Miss my Kookas.

@@sunisbest1234 Yeah they can remember faces. A friend would feed them (meal worms I think) and say to the maggie you'll have to sing us song first and it would give him a minute or two of that beautiful warble, one of my favourite Aussie animals.

Do people really complain about you talking? It’s a reaction video for heaven’s sake, and you’re reacting. I like that you pause the video when you have something to say, so many reactors are so busy talking over the top of the action that they miss a lot of what is going on and then ask inane questions they’d have the answers to if they had just paused and listened. I’ve never been brave enough to stand my ground and stare at a swooping magpie, I usually carry a golf umbrella and hide underneath it as I walk past their tree.

To stop a Maggie from swooping all you have to do is face it and raise your hand and it will back off.

Maggie's will only swoop you in mating season. If you give them a snack now and then they won't attack you, even in mating season. They always go for my pie or sausage roll when I'm walking home. I had one bite one day, then it was knocked from my hands, and it's whole family was there to eat it for me. When they swoop usually a quick look will scare them, but you just need to get out of their zone.

i was always taught to keep looking at a magpie if it starts swooping.. they tend to only attack from behind... there was even a time where kids draw eyes on the back of their bike helmets to stop them swooping!

Some of the long straight boring roads have bends to keep your attention focused - you'll be driving perfectly straight then come to a curve in the middle of nowhere. For apparently no reason, allegedly it's to keep you awake.

They swoop during nesting time to stop you going and stealing their eggs and young, whoever told them that needs a talking too. Staring would probably just give them a more direct path to fly when trying to peck your eyeballs out, would not recommend.

Never heard of Maggie's being stared down. They swoop (mercilessly) in nesting season. It's only the males. There are some very funny yt videos on the lengths people go to, to avoid them. Most end in abject failure. Their torment will be your entertainment.
