BBC and Channel 4 (possibly ITV too) have a blanket usage license of anything covered by PRS, they only struggle when music played is impromptu, like unexpectedly in a live show - or if it would be used as a regular feature, like a theme tune.

Ah, feel like I've waited years for this! All episodes are completely different and not related, but the one about the Neptune club became Phoenix Nights. The guy buying the bluey who said his Mrs had been at it with a bouncer from the Neptune club.. the bouncers are Max & Paddy. Also, the other characters Peter Kay played turn up in other unrelated episodes. And the porn shop at the end "Softie's Hard Stuff" was actually a real porn shop in Bolton with that actual name, although it's no longer there now.

There was a thing in Glasgow called the Ice cream wars. Some drug dealers were selling out of ice cream vans, and they started muscling out legitimate ice cream sellers on their patch. It was actually pretty awful and violent, but was very bizarre and probably an inspiration for this episode

Signor Whippee was also played by Peter Kay, as well as Paul Le Roy the Chorley FM DJ and the ARC Recovery, the Scottish mechanic who fixes Darren's Fiesta. The 'Doorman' from the Neptune that 'Debbie' had been shagging was Paddy. Should definitely do the whole series.

Look forward to when you get to react to Max and Paddy's Road to Nowhere. That is still the funniest TV series I think Peter Kay has done and is a spin off from Phoenix Nights, so probably worth doing some of them first. These are all series with very few episodes which could be reacted to gradually over time. I think many of the best British comedy's are line that, they are made for just a few series and often just 6 episodes per series (other than Only Fools and Horses and handful of others, some of which have been revived and kept going like Red Dwarf)

the guy renting the video is Alan from Les Alanos.... He references that he and Deborah had split up as she had been shagging around with a bouncer from The Neptune Club, this was a throwback to the 'In the club' episode when Paddy is talking to Max and said that he 'had her' on the snooker table. I never understood why Alan is so friendly with Paddy in Phoenix Nights when he had previously been nailing his missus
