The first Ford in the video isn't a Falcon, it's a 1974-76 ZG Fairlane, came out with a 250 inline 6, 302 Cleveland (exclusive to Australia) and a 351 Cleveland.

Yeah I had ZG back in the seventies that I bought from a Chrysler dealer I worked for when someone traded it in which I got quite cheaply as it was what was known as a “Fairlane Custom” which was the base Fairlane that came with the 250 ci Falcon six but it also was a manual with a three speed column shift, I got it for what what amounted to the trade in price they gave the owner which wasn’t much for a fairly new car being that our dealership didn’t want the thing as they said they would have trouble selling it with its basic specs but they would have put on their used car lot of it was the more popular Fairlane 500 which would have had a V8 in it, anyway it ended up being a really good jigger and I had it for a decade of more

Old man had a metallic green ZG with a 302 he bought brand new from the old Byrt Ford at the top of Flinders St Wollongong. Kept it until he traded it on a A9X sedan he ordered from the long since gone Boyded Holden at the bottom of Flinders St Nth Wollongong.

If you ever make it to Australia, you must put the Birdwood Motor Museum in South Australia on your must visit list. When you walk in the front entrance, the first thing that greets you is a Bugatti Veyron. Then there is the Holden exhibition. Including a one off, built from ground up concept car which pays homage to the classic lines of early 1950s designs. Only lowered, and has an HSV v-8 engine, and is a muscle car. The guys at the Elizabeth plant shipped it to Detroit to show off what Aussies could do. The GM senior management went ape $hit mad, but the factory guys who saw it wanted one so bad. Also on display is every millionth Holden that rolled off the assembly line. And the very last car made by General Motors Holden. Brings a tear to the eye.

G'day, I got my license in the mid 70's. I'm pretty sure we thought of 'muscle cars' as American and did not use the term for Aussie cars. If I saw a XY GT that's what I called it and a XU-1 was a type of Torana. A Monaro was a Monaro. and my z900 would eat them all for breakfast.

That’s a real nice HSV at the end and a good look at the famous injected Holden V8 one of the last models to have it before the introduction of the Chevrolet LS1 which replaced the Holden V8’s (which had their roots back to the later 1960’s introduction in the HT Holdens)midway thru the next Holden series in the VT Commodores in the later 90’s, ironically the first V8’s that were available in Holdens the HK series were Chevrolet engines gradually being replaced by the then new Aussie Holden V8’s in later models then to go full circle again with the LS series Chevs replacing Holdens!

@@dreamcast303certainly not all our Aussie muscle had US engines, Australian built Holdens also had Australian designed and built Holden V8’s (and some sixes as in X-U1’s) especially HSV Commodores before the late 1990’s then Chevrolet LS engines from then on, GM-Holden was really the only one with euro inspired design with the Commodores but it only looked similar to the Opel it’s engineering from engines to suspensions ( and body) were all built to Australian conditions, Ford Australia’s XD to XF Falcons may have had a passing resemblance to a euro Ford Granada but that’s where it ended, absolutely nothing in common inside or out, size and drivelines were completely different

Practically all the Opel components that GM head office imposed on Holden were thrown out as sub standard junk that was not up to the task. Costly reworking of Opel ideas sent Holden on a downward spiral. With the Opel ideas and designs for the Commodore , Holden lost the best selling car in Australia position it held from the early fifties until the Commodore problems became widely known to car buyers around 1982. Just European throw away ideas about cars from Opel.

Were did you get that from . Lmfao , yes some styling , but that wasn't Opal it was GM and Opal is GM s European subsidiary. Holden changed everything, later 1995 models have nothing in common and were more close to the US Caprice from Chev than Opal, VT 1998 through VZ 2005, was a Total redesign , and the VE through VFll 2018 has nothing to do with Opal , check your facts , your getting laughed at !

Economical when cruising with the 0.72:1 5th gear, but plenty of power and torque through the gear range when needed

Hey Ian, you may have noticed that typical Australian GM products basically are of European GM heritage. I mean the dark green car looks very similar to "our" European Opel Senator and the Monaro's look very much like Opel Record's, Opel Commodore's, Opel Ascona's and Opel Kadett's and slightly like USA Chevrolet Vega's. So gettin' one of these and build them to left hand drive should be no problem based upon Opel Dashboards. Basically it seems like GM Europe and GM Australian had tight connections, car body wise spoken and GM USA Engine divisions and GM Australian Engine divisions obviously had tight connections as well and so they tend to spoon USA GM engines in European GM style car bodies... fabulous! But, wait....that means we Europeans had the smaller European style car Bodies in combination with the small engines...🤔😕😠Dang it ! How come The Australians an USAmericans could have it all.....And we Europeans did not have American Muscle in our cars, but hang on....ehmm well we did actually: The Opel Diplomat 327, the Jensen Interceptor 440, the De Tomaso Mangusta, 351, the De Tomaso Panthera 351, The Iso Grifo 327 and 454, the Monteverdi 426 and the Facel Vega 383, just to name you a few. All of these cars basically were in the top-segment sold for top money and so they were not available for the common people, and they usually still arn't. And of course a Gray- Imported True American classic like a Chevrolet Camaro, a Chevrolet Corvette, a Chevrolet Chevelle, Ford Mustang, Ford Torino, Dodge Charger, Dodge Challenger and so on. My personal favorite was my 1969 Chevrolet Impala Kingswood Wagon 350, I crossed the Entire European continent with and I drove it as a daily driver also as our holiday car in summer- holidays and in the winter to go on winter-sport with with my family and Malanois dogs. Nowadays I have a 1987 Chevrolet Camaro Iroc Z28 Convertible (only 744 made in 1987) equipped with a 305 TPI V8 and a Borg-Warner manual 5 speed homo-legation drive train for the International Race Of Champions (IROC) Circuit Race Camaro's. (Yes; that kind of Camaro you do not like... ;-)

Hate to tell you , not one part fits your opal , some styling similarities that's it , nothing will fit , you assume Opal designed the cars but the 1988 onwards Commadores were fully Australian design , I'd say Holden Design probably designed your Opal , and as far as GM Holden putting US V8 s in , sorry GM Holden built their own V8s from 1969 , nothing to do with US V8 at all , the Green Commadore HSV is running an Australian only 5.0 injected V8 , it came out in 1988 and uses a " Bunch of Bananas" intake later used or stolen by the LS 10 years later .

@@JosephCowen-fz8vj Well this may be the case as well, who knows...? Knowing GM how ever, they are king in making basically one Greenhouse of a car body to fit one platform and they had several car noses designed to distinct their local GM cars brands and overseas cars to fit this Car-Body-Greenhouse, and several Car-Body-Trunks to match the nose the fitted. Why..? well this was for GM the cheapest recipe to sell cars. Holden may have been designing cars as well, but based up on existing platforms and greenhouses, again, since this was the way GM operated on a global scale. So yeah who knows who designed the OPEL Senator, and the Holden version of this car? One big heads up to you Josheph--> I was referring to the European GM make of OPEL and not the Brazilian GM make of OPAL --> just one letter difference and a huge difference in cars and a huge different set of continents. As Brazil also has a huge GM plant designing GM cars, who knows we are both wrong and our beloved European and Australian cars and engines were designed in Brazil for all that matters ;-)) Who cars, where ever you look across the globe, you'll find nice GM cars; Aussie made, USA made, Brazil made, European made, who cares !

@@dutchyjhome I'm sure there is an Opal side , but In Australia these cars are like rock stars , most Australians know in great detail the history of them , Holden wasn't just a car company here , it was the Australian hero, books and product data kids read at school , it's hard to explain , like I can go to an Aussie car book store and a whole book is on just bolts used in Holdens , the Opal similarities were only early stuff , there was a big Holden campaign on tv saying how they redesigned every bolt , changed sheet metal , etc , Holden Design was one of 3 global design centres that exported body design to South Africa , middle east , new Zealand, , but I think you will find not one part will be the same , espically the UTE version , wagon , long wheel base Statesman, the Green VS or VR model shown is 1993/4/5 . Four door model , it came as I said in UTE ( tray back) , station wagon and long wheel base Statesman.

Haldens are not or barely known outside Australia, so outside of Autsralia nobody knwos Halden as a make. Maybe some Haldens have made it to the rest of the Left side driving world, but if they did they probably were re-badged into another local GM make, since in the end a Halden won't sell here.

🇪🇺🇬🇧 The final car was marketed in the UK as the Vauxhall Omega and in Europe as Opel Omega with 4,6 & 8 cyl. options FYI. You should also check out the Lotus Vauxhall Carlton from the 1990s. A beast limited to 177mph 3.6 litre with 375bhp.
