@@finncarlbomholtsrensen1188 doubt it American barley is different and when brewed by European methods it made a cloudy not good beer so they use far less barley and use rice in the beer to make american style beers this produces far less taste in the beer the only solution is to import all of the barley required which would be to expensive ( and push up prices of our beer as well)

As a citizen born in Budweis (the other name for České Budějovice), I will add this detail: Do You know, WHY is Budvar still STATE-OWNED (while no other brewery or any normal company is)? It is due to (reasonable) fear that Anheuser-Bush would go immediately for purchase! With the purchase trademark would be “solved”, the tradition would perish (Samson WAS NOT parrent company of Budvar. It was another Brewery based in Budweis with history to 1750s) The name Budweiser meaning: in German that means “(origin) of Budweis” and Budweis in the German name for my town Budějovice (České Budějovice) the same way Prague is English name for Praha. So any brewery in Budějovice would technically nrew Budweiser - and that is why ANB bought the second brewery Samson.

I used to work for AB in the US, selling American Budweiser and importing Czechvar, the original, 15-17 years ago. Interestingly, I now live in Prague, Czech Republic. Czech Budweiser, brewed in České Budějovice (pronounced Ches-kay Boo-dey-yo-vit-say), tastes distinctly like beer 🍺. My preferred Czech beer is Pilsner Urquell, a lager brewed by the Pilsner Urquell Brewery in Plzeň (pronounced Plzen), Czech Republic 🇨🇿. Cheers! 🍻

@IWrocker, The name Budweiser is a German derivative adjective, meaning "of Budweis". Beer has been brewed in Budweis, Bohemia (now České Budějovice, Czech Republic) since it was founded in 1265.[4] In 1876, Adolphus Busch and his friend Carl Conrad developed a "Bohemian-style" lager in the United States, inspired after a trip to Bohemia, and produced it in their brewery in St. Louis, Missouri. Anheuser-Busch has been involved in multiple trademark disputes with the Budweiser Budvar Brewery of České Budějovice over the trademark rights to the name "Budweiser". In the European Union, except Ireland, Sweden, Finland and Spain, the American beer may only be marketed as Bud, as the Budweiser trademark name is owned solely by the Czech beer maker Budweiser Budvar.[5][6] In some countries, such as the United Kingdom, both the Budvar and Anheuser-Busch lagers are available under the Budweiser name, though their logos differ.[7]

@thkempe
@thkempe 5 ай бұрын
The Czech brewery Budweiser Budvar was only founded in 1895, when Budweiser beer was already introduced to the US, namely in 1876. You can see it easily by the name. Budweiser is German. The Czech name is Budějovice - which is obviously not the origin of the American name "Budweiser", which was inspired by the much older German brewery in this town. Since the Czechs killed or expelled all German inhabitants in 1945, I think they lost the right to claim the German name Budweis for their town and its products. They should only sell stuff named after Budějovice, not Budweis.
@vermull19
@vermull19 5 ай бұрын
@@thkempeThe town was granted the right to brew beer by the King of Bohemia. Whether there are any German speakers living here today will not change the history of the town and its right to brew beer. Every resident of the town (with sufficient capital) had the right to brew beer and it was entirely up to them what they named their beer. Yes Czech towns and villages also have German and Latin equivalents or transcriptions as these were the official languages of the Bohemian Crown Lands throughout history. So it is purely up to the local brewery whether they choose Czech, German or Latin for their beer (in this case they ended up choosing both Czech and German). I understand that this can be confusing for someone who is historically used to only one language, but for a long time Czechs used three languages equally, this changed only in the 18th century when German took over and then in the 20th century when Czech took over, but that doesn't mean that the historical equivalents of town names have stopped being valid and that a Czech can never use them, after all they are still the same towns of our ancestors. Of course, naming American beer after a Czech city is a bit flawed, but one could understand it if it wasn't the biggest spit in the face this historic beer city could have received, namely naming a piss after it. Being from Budweis, I demand compensation for the insult to the town and its inhabitants, and demand that they immediately repair reputation of town by either stopping making beer or associating it with the town (hence the renaming) or start making beer of sufficient quality to deserve the name after the beer city of bohemian kings and princes.

Truly, US Bud is very near the bottom of my list of favourite beers - I've been known to refuse one even when there's no alternative available. On the other hand, the original Czech Budweiser is very near the top of my favourite beers. It's a perfect example of how the USA all too often adopts/steals something from elsewhere - and before marketing, somehow manages to remove the very thing that makes it great. TV shows, movies, food, music covers and cars. ( and beer!)

Here in germany and other Europian countrys Czech beer is sold in the supermarkets of Aldi and Lidl and other chains but in different packaging, by Aldi and Lidl, it comes in plastic bottles and tins, in others it comes in glass and tins, I prefer Glass, when travelling to the Czech Republic the bars are welcoming and have great food and BEER 😊 Czech and German beer are just the best, with something for everyone, there are 1000's of BEER 's just in germany alone, and the same goes for the Czech Republic, they look for a quality product with no Additives, this is why beer from these two countries have some of the best beers in the world, compared to the beer in the USA, I would say the beer produced in all the European countries is better than most US brands, that includes British beer yuk, 😂 most beers around the world are of German and Czech origin, in Germany you have very strict guidelines for beer production, your only allowed to use the main ingredients for beer products, the difference between them is what type of hops they prefer to use and the other main ingredients to produce a great beer, Hikkk😂😅😊

If you prefer a delightful Ale go for Belgium brands, Germany are excellent choices for varieties like weizen. Stouts, and other types of Ales can be savored in Ireland and England. It's important to note that this is a generalization, and Europe boasts numerous outstanding breweries throughout. However, for a tourist seeking beer recommendations, these suggestions can serve as a helpful starting point.

First of all, Budweis is the German name for today's (České) Budějovice originated in the Autrian-Ungarian monarchy (or even earlier...). Then (as already mentioned in the comments) "Budweiser Bier" is translated to "beer from Budweis" and therefore abbreviated to "Budweiser" or "Budvar" in Cech when speaking of beer. And as last fact there were two competing breweries in Budweis/Budějovice, the "Aktienbrauerei" (translated somehow "share brewery") - today's name holder - and the "Bürgerbräu" ("citizen brewery") - with the "Samson" trade mark. As far as I know a brewmaster who learned at Bürgerbräu emigrated to the US and introduced the "Budweiser" (... from Budějovice) with Anheuser-Busch in the US. These were the times, when product knowledge were more important than legal stuff...

San Miguel Beer has also a very special branding history. It started in the Philipines under the Spanish control, during the war and until Spanish lost the territory, the company moved to Spain, and lend the rights to a Catalan Beer factory in Lleida to keep the production. The Philipines production plants became and independent company with the country independence and continued brewing beer under the same brand. Still today there are two San Miguel producers, one in Spain and another for the rest of the World. They seem to be in friendly terms, never had any litigation. As a curiosity, the Spanish brand moved the company site from Lleida to Malaga during the Catalan Independence protests out of fear of the outcome. Would had been sort of fun if all this independence situation had happened again and there were now three San Miguel brands for exactly the same cause. :)

I am České Budějovice local (the town the Budvar is brewed in). Love the beer especially the 5% alk. one (golden cap), not much of a beer guy myself but occasionally I enjoy a cold beer. Not as bitter as some other Czech beers are, which I like. Incomparable to the US version which I tried couple of years ago when I visited east coast of the US. You have to try the real thing :). I've had both, Budvar in Prague, a fine pilsner. The US Budweiser in NYC and it is pretty bad indeed. I did that to myself coz i wanted to see if it was really as bad as advertised 😂. I didnt have to drink it as my friend and host basically started importing German and Czech beer to the US after living in Europe for years. He couldnt move back to american beer😂, besides the odd IPA . He's also one of the the guys that keep the flow of Mexican coca cola to NYC going 😂, real sugar you know, just like Europe. And that business actually started coz he personally wanted those products, he's actually a lawyer 😂. But in good american fashion , he had a problem but saw an opportunity to solve it and make money along the way. Gotta love the attitude. 🤘❤️🇧🇪🇺🇲

Arguably the 2 best beermakers in the world, are Belgium and Czechia. Also, the beer type Pilsner beer, comes from Plzen in Czechia. The fear in Czechia, is that when foreigners take over Czech breweries (because they are often financially very powerful), the first thing they do is 'modernise' (read maximise) production, and totally destroy the original recipe and taste of beers that have been popular for hundreds of years.

Hi, I'm from the Czech Republic. The Czech brewery Budweiser (Budvar in Czech) was founded in 1895. The ban on the use of the English version of the name for export beer was enforced by the Americans several years ago. The owner of the brewery is the Czech State. In the UK both beers are sold with the ‘Budweiser’ name but with ‘Budvar’ or ‘Bud’ also appearing on the bottle or can. Due to the Cold War the Czech beer wasn’t readily available here until the 1990s. It started off as a niche beer, but is very much mainstream these days and available to buy in most supermarkets, off licences and local corner shops. I’ve been drinking it since I was a teenager. It’s one of my favourites. I don’t like the US beer at all. It’s piss, but I still think it’s a million times better than either Miller or Coors. I’m judging the UK brewed versions of those three beers though. Maybe the US brewed versions are different. (whilst Budvar in the UK is imported from Czechia).

Just as a sidenote: České Budějovice is the Czech name of the city which in German is called Budweis. There you find the Budweiser brewery which produces the original Budweiser beer. The same with Pilsener: It is named after the Czech citiy Plzeň, which in German is called Pilsen. It is the location of the Pilsener Urquell Brewery, where they created a special type of beer, which then was copied and became known as Pilsener.

Beer production in the Czech Republic was very much concentrated on light-lager beers. We are truly world class in these. Thanks to small craft breweries, we are gradually learning to brew other types of beer. Beers from Holland, Belgium, Germany, Austria etc. are a great role model for us. Gosh, I LOVE top-fermented unfiltered wheat beers! Back to lagers: For me, Pilsen beer is number one in terms of taste thanks to its unique water and composition. After all, it's no coincidence that the beer category is called "Pilsen" :D Budweiser is not extra special, but our taste standards are high :D

I'm from Czechia. I haven't tasted the American Budweiser yet but I drink Czech Budvar sometimes - to me it's just an average beer. Czech beer might be really good in general but we're talking mostly about one type of it - Czech/Pilsner lager. There are many more types of interesting beer flavors in the world. In past 5 years there was a boom of smaller-sized breweries in Czechia and with it came a lot of new beer styles - pale ale and its variations (IPAs, APAs, NEIPAs etc.), stout, wheat beer, sour beer,... It's becoming really good too. But when it comes to these "alternative" (from my point of view) types of beer I think there are powerhouses other than Czechia - particularly Germany, Belgium, US, UK and Ireland. Other countries are able to brew a really good beer too. I remember visiting a Slovenian restaurant serving really interesting Slovenian and American craft beers. It was nice and we got drunk:)
