By the time the millennium era (1999 - 2001) rolled around I had already given up on mainstream pop music. These three episodes of TOTP are a clear indication as to why. What a racket, especially the stuff featured in the 2000 episode.

Linkin Park have never had a UK #1 or even a Top 5 hit I'm afraid. What I've Done got to #6 in 2007 In the End made it to #8 in 2001 Points of Authority to #9 in 2002 and Somewhere I Belong {2003} and We Made It {Busta Rhymes Featuring Linkin Park 2008} both got to #10. Limp Bizkit's Take A Look Around {theme from MI:II} got to #3 in July 2000 and Rollin' was a chart topper in Jan 01 before My Way got to #6 in June 2001 and Eat You Alive got to #10 in 03.

Three episodes from my favourite era of music, the 2000 episode was in my opinion, POPTASTIC, hence why I chose it, but it's a shame you didn't feel the same way :( I'm probs in the minority that likes Bound 4 Da Reload but that performance was weird af. It’s definitely a club song that doesn’t translate well to a live performance in my opinion. I had a feeling you wouldn’t like the song though. It samples the theme tune for the British medical drama Casualty (started in 1986 and still going to this day), the “can everyone stop getting shot!!!” dialogue comes from the 1998 film Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. (Also, I found it funny that before the performance the host mentioned the Teletubbies being number one, like you had JUST seen that episode prior) Britney’s single hadn’t actually charted yet, at the beginning of the performance when the graphics come on it says “NEW” where the chart position is, indicating it’s a new release. Also it sounded like to me she was singing the verses live but lipsynching the chorus. Mandy Moore has definitely had a more successful acting career, but she still releases music, she released an album last year. Scooch represented the UK in Eurovision 2007 with Flying the Flag (For You). 'Slam Dunk da Funk' is probably the song where you can most hear Sean (the guy with the almost-shaved head, iirc he was only about 16/17 when this was filmed. The 'if you got that feeling' part is all him and he's the main voice in the chorus); there's just 3 of them left now doing the 90s reunion concerts (Sean who I've mentioned, Scott who has the spiked hair, and Richie who has the very floppy hair). As for Britney, she was lip-synching a fair amount but you can hear parts where it sounds lower and different to the recording so I do think some of it was live.

Five were one of the best boy bands of the 90s, in my opinion. They are still going but as a trio of the ones who were always more back-up...still called Five, which is a bit dumb. They were part of a 90s pop festival this past year and back in January it came to Tel Aviv where I live. It was them, Aqua, 2 Unlimited, Dr. Albarn and I think Sonique. I contemplated going for nostalgia purposes but I'd really only pay that sort of money if it was a full Five reunion and not the 3 of them who were never that important to the band in the first place.
