German driver's license: nope it doesn't take years. It takes at least 12 hours of practical driving lessons, including night time, overland, and high way lessons. Plus a set curriculum of around 28 hours of theoretical lessons, including all road signs, rules of the road, basic road laws, etc. To be elligible for your driver's exam you have to own and show a recent first aid course legitimization. The driving exam is a rigorous theoretical test with multiple choice answers, with at least one but possibly more than one answer may be correct. And you have to supply ALL correct answers to a question, so no simple elimination questions, so you got to know your shit. Failing to give all correct answers means the points not given will be added. Once you exceed ten points lost (out of loads of varying questions) you have failed the theoretical exam. Different questions have different values between 2 and 5 points, according to their importance in road rules. So with TWO five point answers wrong, or missing, you can have failed the whole exam. Out of well over fourty questions, in the standarized test. ONLY after you have successfully passed the theoretical test will you be allowed to enter a practical driving test that can last up to an hour with a licensed, and locally registered official driving examiner. ONLY after they have sent you through full traffic where you have to obey ALL rules 100% (or at least without any major debatable foibles) will you recieve your driver's license eligibility. The cost for a driver's license, including all driving and theoretical lessons, examination fees, and administration fees to the registration office, will sum up to between 2000 and 3000€, which is roughly $2260 and $3390. Yes, if you INSIST on driving in the left lane at slow speeds, forcing others to slow down behind you when you have the chance to safely move to a lane to your right that accomodates your current speed, then, yes, you can recieve a ticket. That ticket's severity depends on how dangerous your driving was, but can even make the registration office repeal your license for a month on the first offense, or even permanently on multiple offenses. This is handled according to a points system in the central points registry in Flensburg in Germany. All your traffic violations that incur a point penalty will be sent to this central register. Once you accumulate a total of seven points: bye-bye, driver's license. A single severe occurence of blocking traffic in the left lane can garner you between one and two points, and between 60 and 120€ fines. If you have your license revoked for incurring THREE points in one violation, or eight or more points total over multiple minor offenses, will have to be re-evaluated for their fitness to own a driver's license or drive a car. This medical-psychological evaluation is done in front of a panel of at least three medical doctors and/or psychiatrists who evaluate not only your physical, but also your mental fitness and maturity. Driving a car WITHOUT a driver's license is a punishable CRIME, not simply a rules violation in Germany. Also, if you drive without a license, your insurance is void, so you have to cover ALL costs from accidents yourself. From a German in Germany.

US chocolate tastes like it does thanks to butyric acid. The fun thing is that the process is no longer needed to keep the milk from getting sour but Americans have become so used to it that other companies in the US actually ADD that stuff so that you get the distinctive Hershey taste. The argument is somehwat strange given that most US citizens, once exposed to chocolate that does not contain it, prefer the European version. But, hey, why invest in a new process when you have conditioned your population to accept that vomit-tasting-chocolate is something desirable?
@jarls5890
@jarls5890 2 жыл бұрын
AFAIK Butyric Acid - which was used "back in the day" to keep milk fresh. Does not actually make it keep fresh. It just tastes and smells "fresh-ish". In other words it pretty much masks the foulness.
@haraldschuster3067
@haraldschuster3067 2 жыл бұрын
@@jarls5890 Which, in the case of Hershey, is pretty much not working :) But Hershey's most likely doesn't ADD the chemical directly, in fact Hershey has denied that. The acid occurs naturally during lipolysis and the general assumption is that Hershey chose a process for "keeping the milk fresh" that caused lipolysis to occur and thus butyric acid entered the product. Other treatments like heating the milk keeps the milk fresh but does not cause lipolysis. So Hershey might have found a way how to keep the milk from spoiling that was cheaper than heating it but that process produces the acid in the end. Hershey's still keeping mum on their production process, so it's all speculation. But when they say that they don't add it, lipolysis is the most normal explanation for its presence and that means a very unique milk treating process.

I'd just like to add the link between the vomit smell you get with American chocolate & butyric acid. B acid is found in vomit (& other things like breast milk, body odour, anaerobic fermentation for example in the colon, & parmesan cheese.) I don't see how it's a perfect partner for chocolate tbh. If you're not used to the taste, you'll gag when you have American chocolate for the first time. Some people, like me, can never get used to the taste. I'd rather do without chocolate if the only type available is American, & I'm a chocoholic!

That's because health care in US is not for people, but for insurance companies. Reminds me one US fella who was visiting here and injured his foot. Was afraid to go to doctor, kept saying "I have no money for it!" but finally went. Came back, dumbfounded. Said that went there, expecting hefty fees and wait time. Instead got to doc within 10 minutes, had to pay 15 Euros fee (which would have been 5 Euros if had been citizen and have health insurance) and later another 5 Euros to get the medicine what the doctor prescribed. That's it, 20 Euros (which is tad over 20 USD). As the guy said, he would have shelled out 400 to 500 dollars in US for everything that he got here (doc visit, checking of wound, tests that were done, medicine, follow up check and consultation after 2 days). It is sad when people avoid contacting a doctor, because visit to doctor could potentially ruin finances.

@RustyDust101

It also has to do with Hershey's aquiring the coveted supply contract with the army during WWII. They supplied ALL chocolate to soldiers in the MRE's. That shaped a whole generations palate into aquiring that specific taste as desirable. Hershey's continued to supply the armed forces with chocolate for decades afterwards. Thus it monopolized a market so that other producers had to add specific additives to achieve that same flavor, even if they used other methods of stabilizing the milk powder. Hersheys uses lipolysis induced by butyric acid to stabilize the milk powder. Which incidentally is also contained in vomit, especially in infant vomit, or is secreted from dog's anal glands. This gives American standard chocolates that specific taste which is incredibly vile to most other people not used to it. In other countries other stabilizers are used to make the milk last longer giving much smoother taste to the chocolates. Also the cocoa solids are powdered especially finely, and conched for many hours, up to three days, to give that silky smooth finish, instead of using other emulsifiers for a similar (but not identical) effect. All in the name of the quick buck, instead of good quality.

Life is a journey, so many people see retirement as the ‘beginning of their enjoyment of life’ but die before retiring. If you see your life as a journey then enjoy the moments, stop and smell the roses. The point is not to get to the end as fast as possible, it is to enjoy every moment on the way there. Work is there to help you enjoy life, not to speed you to the end of it.

Europe has a lot of problems to contend with. But one thing we do understand is that not every citizen needs to aim for the sky or hope to "make it" to be happy. Here it is understandable and encouraged to just be a normal average citizen and let society provide the care and help you need. You don't need to be rich to qualify for healthcare or education. Being average is okay here. No need to "get rich or die trying".

Mostly it comes from a loose definition of "freedom" that is largely rooted in indulgence. A great deal of American notions of "liberty" and "freedom" revolve around being a belligerent asshole who is rude, demanding, and abusive to others (especially employees) because they feel like it and not be chastised. That belligerence is how many Americans feel good about themselves and the lack of consequence is seen as the freedom.

It's not that governments care, it's that the people DEMAND their governments provide certain services and conditions, otherwise they don't stay in power long... The USA is all about the individual, it's a real "I'm alright Jack" attitude to life and their environment (generally not ecology). In such an environment it's all about "I'm going to do better", in Europe it's all about "my child is going to do better"... That difference in mindset makes a big difference.

because of the last several decades of laws that were geared towards the good of the economy and the companies that fuel it, lobby allows companies to literally write the laws, the actual human beings in the US have no power at All doesn't matter who you vote they all owe alot to the companies that gave them money to run office where i come from the election funds are distributed by a state agency which has issues because of the ammount of people running for office in the US would be extremely easy, you just split it in half. The fact that you can predict the winner by who had the most money is horrendous to the fact the elected official should only care about the good of his voters. i feel like in the US you have the least freedom in my opinion, you are tied by your rent, monthly healthcare, insurance, college debt and many others. you are free to ALLWAYS have a job otherwise you're homeless and in debt.

It's because politicians like Nancy Pelosi and Mitch McConnell haven't had real jobs since the Nixon Administration and they have no other skills to fall back on (plus their age would make them undesirable to most employers) so they're dependent on Private Sector allowances to keep them afloat and also in style.

There are parts of the Autobahn wich has no speed Limit at all however there is something called richtgeschwindigkeit wich translates to recommended speed and that is 130km/h but nobody cares . Otherwise it has a speed Limit as high as 120 km/h and minimum on Autobahn is 80 km/h so you are only allowed to drive on the Autobahn if your vehicle is able to drive those 80km/h. And the process of getting your liscense is not that long usually you go to your local Amt ( gov.office) get a permit for being able to do your liscence then you have one year to do the work (divers school you have to have a certain amount of driving lessons with your teacher,certain hours of theoretical lessons) make your theoretical and driving test and then if you succeed you good to go. If you need longer you have to prolong this permit at that Office and it Costs you of course more. I paid a little less then 2000 euros but Was in 2009 so I would not be suprised if it is mire then that nowadays.Also driving with Stick is Standard, you could learn on an automatic vehicle but it Limits you to drive only automatic then and that is super inconvinient.

considering the chocolate, its buteric acid that makes the american chocolate sour and taste like vomit. it comes from processing the milk differently. the part about the milk, we also have milk that is really long lasting, its uht milk, think its like ultra high temeperature cooking before packing. maybe the us does this to all the milk. i dont drink uht milk, it tastes really shit.

Are you telling me, that there is no way to eat healthy food in US? I think it's more of the problem, that you have to spend more time and money to find healthy food. I spoke once with the person from US. They buy food for two weeks up front. Here in the EU we buy food for the one week up front if not just fore couple of days. This way we buy fresh ingredients and don't throw away the food that has rotten because it was not consumed in time.

AFAIK there are two main reasons for that. 1. Zoning regulations. You cannot combine family housing with supermarket areas, so you have to drive far to get your groceries. In Europe you can walk or bike to the supermarkt. Or pick some stuff up returning from work. 2. Work/life balance: a lot of people have to make long hours to p[ay the bills and do not have the time and the energy to do groceries and cook. (And fast-food is a lot cheaper anyway.)

I'm Swedish and I don't agree with the dude ten minute into the clip when he mentions culture. When it comes to movies and TV-shows, the culture in the USA is amazing and the same goes for the music industry. The quality of TV-shows produced in the USA is in my mind the best in the world. Movies and music it shares the number one spot with a couple of other countries, but world class!

@Apeshaft
@Apeshaft 8 ай бұрын
@@leec6707 Yeah, a lot of movies from the USA are complete crap. That includes many of the blockbuster movies from Hollywood, even though I do enjoy watching some of them. So could it have something to do with the huge amount of movies that comes out of the US that makes it seem like a majority is crap? I really don't know myself, since I don't know how many movies are produced in the US on an average year. India (Bollywood) and Nigeria produces even more movies than the US. I don't enjoy Bollywood movies due to their tendency to all of a sudden turn into musicals. And I don't like musicals! I have never seen a single movie from Nigeria, sad to say. Don't watch to many Swedish movies either, but some of them are really good. "Snabba cash", "Slim Susie" and "En man som heter Ove" (a poor remake starring Tom Hanks was relased a year ago or so, "A man called Otto"). Great films from the US that I really enjoyed would be "Heathers" (the original movie from 1989), "True Romance" and "Saving private Ryan" a great movie starring Tom Hanks! :) One thing I dislike with major Hollywood movies are that they all have happy ever after endings. That's a thing that can ruin a whole movie for me, like "Anger management" for instance. Any movies from Japan, Iraq or Belgium you would recommend? Watched most of Akira Kurosawas movies and animated classics like "Spirited away". But nothing from Iraq or Belgium (not counting "In Bruges" :) ).

Not a fan of leaving strollers out, while it's extremely rare and unlikely for anything to happen to it, why take the risk? A very minimal risk is still a risk.
@RealConstructor
@RealConstructor 2 жыл бұрын
Do you lock your house when you’re in it? I don’t. It is extremely rare but there are people sneaking into your house to rob you or worse. It can never be a 100% safe anywhere, but it is safe enough to let your stroller out on the pavement. Just as it is safe enough to not locking your house when you’re at home unless you’re sleeping. You adjust and adapt to the local circumstances. I was in a hotel in America, Orlando FL and it is normal practice there to lock your hotelroom even when it can only be opened with a key from the outside. It was on a memo card on the inside of the door. Lock your door when you are in the room and if someone knocks on the door, ask who they are and what they want. If they say they are from the hotel (cleaning crew or room service etc) call the reception desk before you open the door. It is all written on the warning memo. I never experienced that before, but I adjusted to local advice and changed my behavior accordingly. Do as the locals do and you’ll be safer, you won’t stand out so much.
