Morgan and Perry are two young American students looking to expand their horizons through a college placement programme. They left the United States to spend time living with local families in Morocco.
Morgan is in Rabat, hoping to improve her Arabic and learn the local culture. Perry is in a remote mountain village 230km away, staying with a family and their small children.
For both of them, this immersion is a rich and lasting experience, in which they learn the language and culture of Morocco. For one, it becomes life-changing when she falls in love.

it really sucks when people give you these unfriendly stares @17:05 and sometimes comments. As an Egyptian expat in Europe, i very much often get the same looks although less verbal abuse and can sympathise. it's never easy to be a foreigner and always have to feel that you need to justify your presence especially when you're a resident not a visitor. But then again it's equally rewarding to get to travel the world and experience what it has to offer!
@ivareskesner2019
@ivareskesner2019 2 жыл бұрын
As a fellow immigrant, I'd say don't worry about it. You don't have to justify your presence to anybody. It's legal. Nobody owns a country so one or even several people's opinion on whether you should be there or not means very little. Only everybody's collective opinion matters. And everybody's collective opinion is what got these policies enacted so they clearly welcome you.

There is good and bad everywhere. I really appreciate that both the student and the news service didn't sugarcoat everything. As an American who studied abroad, I wish more Americans who study abroad would just tell their whole experience rather than sugar coating everything. Both students loved the program and Morocco, and I loved my program and the countries I studied in (I studied in Bulgaria and Romania). But there were adjustments that I had to make, and it would have been alot easier if people would have explained the good, bad, and the ugly / the differences, instead of just saying "don't be a rude American" or "just be respectful".

The ending is terrible but not suprising! Poor Morgan who fell for the soap opera romance with the visa-seeking Moroccan dude. This is an all too familiar narrative, a hallmark of contemporary Morocco: whether you're male or female, get that European or American tourist hooked to some dumb, dead-end love story, that's the name of the game over there. Was Morgan this naive or desperate for romantic attention? Really no red flag when Amine proposed to her after two dates, huh? How come no relative of hers attended the "wedding"?

I guess their tourism has plummeted since this atrocious incident… This country, like any other Arab countries, is not safe for western women. @@nak1509 the circumstances were almost identical to girl in the documentary above. a girl on vacation in morocco. These things stay in your mind and we shouldnt try to ignore/forget that these places arent as safe as they seem.

@@WeyounLP As long as you keep that same energy under a documentary in another country. But that’s the problem, people like you only do it under documentaries in “certain” countries. There is a time and place to remember a tragedy and this documentary ain’t it. The situation is nowhere near identical since millions of ppl travel to Morocco without a problem. Do you also remember the Christchurch terrorist attack under a vlog in New-Zealand? The girls literally went hiking in the mountains in the middle of the night? Like how is that identical to this😂 Try hiking in the middle of nowhere around 12am in the US or any other place for that matter see whats gonna happen to you You also claim Morocco not to be safe while it’s safer than a lot of European countries another very stereotypical prejudice

just few days ago 14 kids were killed in mass shooting in an American school in Texas, but i don't see clowns like you quoting and mentionning every murder in the US in documentaries about that country and this is just an exemple. Morocco hosts 12 million tourists every year. get out from your little room
