American tries Swedish food! To celebrate Swedish Midsommar in America, we went to IKEA to find as much Swedish food as possible, ranging from Kalles kaviar to Swedish meatballs. Midsummer is one of the biggest holidays in Sweden and is celebrated on the summer soltice. The holiday includes dancing around a maypole, partying and eating a variety of dishes.
The foods that we try may not be typical to midsummer but we just wanted to get as many different dishes as we could get our hands on here in the U.S!

Husker Du from the Texas Hill Country!. Both of my mother's parents came from Sweden. I make a lot of Swedish foods. Love my heritage!

When you were talking about the cinnamon rolIs kept waiting for you to say that we have pearl sugar on them. So it's not like we don't have anything on. It's just that we don't have icing on them.

My memory of a typical Swedish midsummer meal is : färskpotatis kokt i dill, inlagd sill, kokta ägg, gräddfil, öl, NUBBE, and of course butter, knäckebröd, cheese. Färskpotatis is the signature vegetable. Färskpotatis = The first potatoes you harvest this year, like fresh potatoes, comperad to the half rutten ones you have left in your jordkällare sedan förra året. Sill = herring. Potatoes and herring used to be the staple food of the swedes in old times, before the Baltic sea was pollluted. A sad story, I totally agree with Greta Thunberg.

Nicho you must take her with you and celebrate Midsummer in Sweden, it's like never having celebrated Christmas.. You can also have all that food at missoma. But there are some obvious things that must be included, which are standard on all midsummer tables (just in case not everyone is vegan) And that is: Herring, potatoes, sour cream and chives. Then snap and snap songs. And of course strawberries, either in a strawberry cake or just with cream.

I'm swedish and i think i'm in that 1% of us swedes that don't like lingonsylt (lingonberry jam) (actually i don't like lingonberrys in any form haha 😅) but my favourit jam is drottningsylt (directly translated to Queens Jam) 👌 It's raspberrys and blueberrys (swedish blueberrys which has more taste and are blue/purple the whole way through) mixed. If you get the chance, please let her try it 😃 One of my favourit swedish foods is Raggmunk (similar to pancakes but with small strips of potatos in it and the shape of a raggmunk is not round but more oval and a bit smaller) and raggmunk with crispy bacon and Drottningsylt and a glass of milk is so good! 😍👏

the typical dessert for midsummer is jordgubbstårta..strawberry cake! :-) but it should be made with whipped cream and not the american way with frostings or what it is called. the greens for midsummer is just a sallad.

That is not any midsummer food and I can assure you that Swedish people do not eat the horribly bad IKEA brand. This is an insult to real swedish food.

Yes we wrote in the description for this video that the food wasn’t typical midsummer food but we just tried to make do with what we could find here in the U.S 😊
